Adele had been having a good day, until her mood took a sudden sharp change. She was getting her baby sister ready to go to sleep for the night, rocking her gently and singing a Romanian lullaby. As she looked down into her sister's beautiful little face, she started to wonder why their mother wanted to make Eli's childhood so much different from what Adele's had been. She had tried to change her Daddy's drinking for Eli before he disappeared. She wasn't raising her in Adele's childhood home. Nothing about Adele's childhood was good enough for precious little Eli. She had enough sense to realize she shouldn't be holding her, called over the nearest adult, handed the baby over and walked out of that house. That Sully home. With the Sully 'kids' who still had both their parents. And they had her Mama too. She'd rather live with them, then with Adele.
She walked into the pub and searched through the drinks until she found a bottle of tuicã, a strong Romanian plum brandy, and poured herself a glass. It was one of her father's favourites, though he had never let her drink it. He had once told her it packed a punch. Right now, she wanted a punch. She wanted to knock out all thoughts of the people that had so much more than she did. They even had more of her mother's love. She took a sip from the glass and felt the tuicã burn a path down her throat and into the pit of her stomach. Undeterred, she took a larger swallow from the glass and only put it down when she sensed someone was watching her.
