It wasn't often he ventured outside. Actually, no, he didn't. At all, really. It had nothing to do with the people here, they seemed....friendly enough but this place felt, well off to him. Like something that had been built by one of the lower level creatures, things were broken, wrong. If he left the safety of his apartment he'd be more then tempted to...well fix things.

Still, there was only staring at the same four walls he could take and after a few hours of attempting to hammer out one of his novels, something that also felt different. Like work, really, not..bad wrong. Still, he didn't, technically, need to drink but he did like the atmosphere of bars. The music. So, hands jammed into his pockets he wandered into the closest one, easing himself into one of the seats as he studied the other people around him. Nursing his beer a moment as he, playfully, spun around and around on his seat for a moment. It was fun, he couldn't help it.

Merlyn rarely visited bars. She had never had a drop of alcohol when she was alive. And after she died, she couldn't interact with the physical world, not in that way. She didn't crave it, not in the same way she wanted ice cream or birthday cake, the things of childhood that she could remember enjoying before everything went wrong. Mitchell's pub had caught her attention because she was hoping to 'accidentally' run into his wife, the only other dead woman she'd spoken to on the island. She was lonely, especially after spending a few days in Gail's body.

Merlyn disappeared from her apartment, appearing in the bar with a white light glowing around her. The glow disappeared as she looked around. She didn't spot Annie, but she did see a man by himself, spinning around on his chair. Perhaps he was bored and in need of conversation. She gave a friendly smile. "Hello."

"Holy crap!"Pausing mid-spin at the white light, he scrambled to his feet, fingers clinging to the bar at the womans sudden teleportation. He wasn't scared, not really, but he'd never seen anyone appear in the same manner he was capable of. Even the kids usually just..appeared.

"Uh. H-hi."He offered, fingers clutching his beer as if expecting it to go flying. Or disappear. Both would likely be viable options right at this moment. "Do you..how did you.."He stammered. Faking surprise was good. People tended to fall for the whole...being human shtick, right?

Merlyn frowned; she hadn't meant to startle anyone. She took a 'step' back at his reaction. She didn't really walk, just a practiced floating that made it look like her feet were touching the ground and moving them to look like she was walking.

"I'm sorry. So many people here are used to strange occurrences. Sometimes I forget that not everyone is." Merlyn told him honestly. His questions were hard to answer, without risking surprising him more. "The how is a long story. Are you alright?"

"No!No it's fine I just...I'm uh, still getting used to this place."He assured her, relaxing just a little as he took a deep breathe. It wasn't exactly like anything could hurt him, after all. Even if they tried to.

"Uh, I'm just..I'm fine. I guess."He answered after a moment, nodding as he, carefully, took a sip of his beer for a moment, studying her curiously. "You're..a spectre?"He questioned, before pausing. "Oh!I'm...I'm Chuck. Sorry I don't think I've ever met a...uh spook before."

"It does take getting used to." Merlyn said with a hint of a smile. "It's not so bad here really." It was better than the town of Trinity, though she did miss her brother, Caleb.

"Oh, Good." Merlyn said, watching him to make sure he really was okay. "Something like that." She answered, deciding not to go into detail. The ghost-angel thing was hard to explain, even to those few who knew her story. She had to hold back a small laugh at being called a spook. He hadn't even seen her scary side, hopefully no one on the island ever would. "I'm Merlyn."

"Yeah your not...your not wrong."He agreed, scrubbing his face with his hands a moment,as if relieved she wasn't some raging monster or something. Sure, he'd been told that there wasn't, actual, dangers here like back home but old habits died hard. "I mean, I enjoy it!I do, it's uh, actually kind of nice. Not having to, you know, cower from things."

Really, if she had told him,he would have been...well amazed really. He'd made an entire separate species for a reason after all, but a mix of the two, well it would be mind blowing actually. "Do you uh..want a drink or something?"He questioned, wanting to be polite at least.

"Are you new here?" Merlyn asked. It would make sense, but everyone took different amounts of time to adjust to the island. It'd taken her months to truly believe it wasn't all some kind of trick. "What did you have to cower from back home?" She asked, curiously.

"Thank you, but I, uh, can't actually drink. I'm not..solid." Merlyn put her hand through the bar to demonstrate what she meant. It was one of the harder things about being dead. She missing feeling the sun on her skin, tasting food, all of it. "I came to have people to talk to."

"I,uh am yeah."He admitted, after all it was kind of obvious given how wide eyed he was about...well everything here, really. Though he liked to think he took it in stride, really. "Demons, mostly. Um, ghosts, once but not..the good ones."He mummered, gesturing a little as if that would help explain.

Still, her words caused him to duck his head, as if he felt stupid for even asking. "Right!Sorry sorry I didn't mean.."He stammered, reaching up to scrub his face with his hands a moment.

"I know about demons. Or at least I knew one. Well, actually he was a devil." Merlyn told him with a more than a hint of bitterness. Lucas had destroyed so many good people. She gave a small nod. "We had some bad ghosts here, not that long ago. I'm not like them."

Merlyn chuckled. "It's alright. Not all people here are the same. We're from different worlds, with different rules. There might be a ghost on the island who can drink. It was nice of you to ask."

"That, uh, doesn't sound fun."He frowned at the idea. Demons he could handle, they tended to be everywhere, and if push came to shove he could just smite them but..other's peoples stories had always been fascinating to him. "That's good!Their kind of terrifying, actually."He admitted, shuttering as if the memory still scared him.

"You're, uh, welcome!I think."Offering a weak grin, he carefully settled into his seat, more then curious about Merlyn. It wasn't exactly like he'd had time to talk to the ghosts, or any creature, before."That must be...like way cool. Uh, being a ghost. I don't think I'd ever get the whole..walking through walls power. That seems uh, I mean what if there's weird things in the walls that be...awkward."

"No, it wasn't." Merlyn could say more, but she wouldn't unless Lucas ever showed up on the island. Or if there was a door to Trinity. She nodded when he mentioned the ghosts. "They were terrifying for many people." They hadn't scared her, but other people trying to get rid of all ghosts did. "At least they haven't been back." That she knew of, anyway.

Merlyn 'sat' on the chair next to him. She found it made most people more comfortable if she appeared to fit in the physical environment. She returned his smile with one of her own. "Parts of it are cool." She chuckled. "I try not to go through walls too often. I usually just show up, like I did in the bar. I try to pick places that wouldn't cause too much awkwardness."

"Y-yeah I, uh, heard that seems to be their whole..theme really."Some of them, anyway, the wrathful ones. Some were just lost, confused. He felt sorry for them, really, though everyone had to find their own way. If he started stepping in..it would like the old days all over again.

"W-what? Really? I mean, that seems like..the best part about being a ghost."He blurted out, eyes widening as he realized that may have been offense. "Sorry. I didn't mean..I just..I've never really..talked to a ghost before. Tried to once but uh, it was more interested in the whole..murder thing."He rambled, shifting to face her further.

"It's because they haven't found peace in death." Merlyn could understand that. She'd brought terror to those that had covered up her murder and were tormenting her town. Peace with god was best for most of the dead though.

"The best part is protecting people. Or was." There was little Meryln could do about many of the island's dangers. And vengeance had been an important part of ghosting too, in her mind. She glanced at him. "He, or she, not it. Was he or she the ghost of a murderer?"

"Yeah, no I uh, the whole unfinished business is kind of common knowledge."Even those who weren't hunters, kids, were taught that one. That ghosts couldn't hurt you if you hid under blankets, or by a nightlight or all manner of different things. It was crap, of course, but it never hurt to give people hope that they could..hide really.

"Protect..I mean that's..that's new."He mummered, gaze confused as his forehead creased in thought before shaking his head at the question. "He was a kid actually. Uh, a vengeful one. Uh, he kind of..got murdered."He knew that much, at least. He'd been more concerned with making sure people hadn't been hurt at the time to worry about anything more specific.

"There's that. And there can be a fear of moving on." Merlyn had done her best to show people, like an old, very ill man, that they'd be with friends and at peace, even if they didn't have friends or peace in life.

"Really? Where I'm from, the need to keep our loved ones safe and away from evil can be very strong, even in death. Sometimes, it's even stronger." In her case, it had turned into trying to save an entire town. She looked away, staring down at the bar. "So was I. I suppose it depends on what you'd call a kid, I was sixteen when I was killed." In some ways, she felt like she'd died more than a decade before that, trapped in a body that couldn't interact with the world.

"That..also seems to be a big one, yeah"He questioned, fingers toying with his beer a moment before taking a long drink of it. It was..fascinating, really, being able to actually talk to a ghost without the whole murder thing. That was always..terrifying, really. No matter which way it was painted.

He paused, however, at her words and frown flickered to life across his features. "Holy crap that sounds..I mean I'm sorry that you.."Trailing off, he hesitated, fingers hovering just above where her should was. He could have easily helped, sent her upstairs if they'd been back home but this place was..different. Broken.

Merlyn nodded. "At least that was something I could help with back home, I could help other sees that it's not so scary. Here, people just disappear." It was frustrating to watch people lose their loved ones without knowing if they were going to a better place or not.

"Yeah, me too." She'd been to heaven and made the choice to come back for her younger brother, and later the whole town. She'd been given the very rare opportunity to become something more , because of the circumstances of her life and death. "But it's in all in the past."
