Hans had spent the last few nights since the door closed in the apartment. He wanted to spend a little more time with Mina and Robin before he left. And he wanted to make sure that he could say goodbye to them without falling apart. Even though he would be seeing them as often as Marian and Hansel needed. Once he was pretty sure everybody was asleep, he gathered up his stuff. Yes, it was three in the morning but it was the best time to leave, or so he thought. He didn't want to have to deal with Hansel's grumpy looks. He had a suitcase and a backpack, figuring he could get the rest of his stuff later. He tried very hard to be as quiet as possible on his way out of the apartment. "Going somewhere?" Hansel said from the couch, causing Hans to let out an unmanly squeak. All the lights were off so it had been easy to miss the older man. Hansel reached over and turned the lamp by the couch on. "I told you, I'm moving out." Hans adjusted his backpack. "So you really are doing this, huh?" Hansel got to his feet, though he didn't approach the younger man. He just looked at him, arms crossed. "Yes, I am." Hans nodded. "I need some privacy. And I'm kind of tired of hearing you two going at it. I don't sleep as soundly as you think I do." It was something that had developed from being forced out on his own as a child. And something he was surprised Hansel still didn't have to deal with. "Sorry about that." Once he'd started drinking, soundly sleeping became much easier. He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "You don't have to go, we can rearrange the bedrooms or get or room soundproofed...." He really didn't want Hans to leave. Hans shook his head. "I need to do this." He cleared his throat. "Right now, the only place that Sophia and I have any privacy is in her tree house and the weather doesn't always make that the best place to spend time." He adjusted his backpack again. "So this is about Sophia." Hansel nodded. "You could have said something." "This is only partially about Sophia. It has a lot to do with me growing up. I'm eighteen now. I need my own space." Hans stood his ground. "You're a man." Hansel said rather than asked. "Yes, I am." Hans nodded. He was a little surprised when Hansel almost appeared to deflate. "But you don't have to be." He sighed heavily. "Back home...things were different. I had to grow up quick, you know that. We lived part of the same life. But here....you can stay a kid as long as you want. You don't have to be a man just because you're eighteen." "I know." Hans nodded. "I do understand that. And it's not like I'm going off to get married and start a family. I'm just giving myself my own space. I can still be a kid in my own apartment. Especially here where I don't need money to be on my own." He put his bags down and moved over to Hansel, putting a hand on his shoulder. "I promise, I'm not trying to grow up too fast. I just want some privacy, that's all." Hansel looked at the younger man for a moment before pulling him into a hug. Hans was a little surprised at first, but he did hug back. Hansel sighed again. "You can come back any time you want, okay? I know Mina will miss you." He patted Hans' back before letting him go. "How can she miss me? We have the same face." Hans pointed between the two of them with a smirk. He actually managed to get a little bit of a smile out of Hansel. "I'm not moving to another country. I'm not even moving to another building. I'm just moving a few floors away, that's it." He then went back to pick up his bags. "If you need anything, don't be afraid to call, okay?" Hansel crossed his arms again. "I won't." Hans smiled. Once he had his stuff, he headed out the door. He gave Hansel a little wave before shutting the door behind him. Hansel slumped down on the couch and ran a hand over his face. "Is this what it's going to be like with Mina and Robin?" He muttered to himself. He really wasn't looking forward to that even if it was more than a decade away. |
