Steve was glad to see her take more than usual, rather than waiting until the end and just taking bits of what was left. And while they all certainly made sacrifices to make sure the kids were happy and healthy she always seemed to give so much. He gave her a small half-smile as he loaded up his plate too. "I'd say you too but you manage to do that every day." He set that dish aside and made sure the veggies and potatoes and gravy were all in reach.
"I don't know much though, mostly simple things. It's enough to get the kids fed but you shouldn't be the one to have to make it any time we want something nice." He made sure as he loaded his plate that all of the dishes still had some food left in them in case she wanted more, he could just go back after she was done or take the leftovers still in their containers in the fridge. "Or at least I want to be able to help beyond peeling potatoes." he grinned a little bit. He liked the idea of standing next to her on holidays and Sunday nights, making things together.
