Kishan couldn't get back to sleep. He'd woken up shortly after his mandatory six hours as a tiger were over and had climbed into bed, but he couldn't get back to sleep. He made his way up to the roof, hoping to get some quiet contemplating in. He'd found a long time ago that looking at the stars helped to clear his mind as he gathered his thoughts. Though this time, he didn't see the stars. There were stars there, of course, but all he could see was the vast emptiness of space. The loneliness he was feeling was bone deep and he couldn't shake it. He walked over to the edge of the roof and looked down. He was actually contemplating jumping simply because he knew that he would survive. The only thing in question would be the extent of his injuries. Would he have broken legs? Broken ribs? Perhaps every bone in his body would be shattered. And the worst part would be feeling the pain of it all. Not being swept away into the oblivion of death to keep from suffering. And then his shifting would be much more painful. He wouldn't be able to keep it from happening and he would be stuck as a tiger until all of his injuries healed. He shook his head, deciding against it. No point in causing himself unnecessary pain. Kishan found a spot on the roof and lay down, lacing his fingers together and resting his hands on his stomach as he stared at the sky, hoping that eventually he'd be able to fall asleep. |
