The nights are always the worst for him. There's no bombs that will rain down on him, no alarms that he expects to blare at any moment's notice and in general, no shit that will go down. Usually, anyway. But it's not just that, it's everything; it's Kaya soundly asleep in the room next to his own. Part of him wants to peek through the crack of her door and wile the whole night away like that, just to make sure she's not going to disappear at a moment's notice. And it's also Erol, who is unaware that he coughs and trashes about in his sleep. The three of them, until they got here, they really had no idea how quiet the night could get. Sometimes, he really thinks he's gone fucking deaf, only to startle himself when he goes to get a glass of water. And sometimes, he's just got too much energy. When the delicate and gorgeous features of Q don't distract him, he walks. Walks until his feet can't go on and he's sure that sleep will come as soon as he gets to his bed. When he's not so patient, he runs until he's sure to double over, lungs and muscles screaming for air and peace. He's not that cruel to himself tonight, although he's stepped out of his apartment with a purpose. The same stuff Samir had made sure to stock upon before he feared doctors would get too noisy. But it's times two now and Erol doesn't have need of some of the stuff Samir's taking. He pauses in front of the pharmacy to light up a cigarette and lets his head rest against the wall. He's had fun lately - a lot of fun - but it has a price. Muscles ache more than before and he's stayed in bed for far too long today, until Kaya had chased him out of it just in time for dinner. Of which he's barely eaten anything, let alone the rest of her birthday cake. Pain has that kind of effect on him. And he's stiff, so stiff, that he's hoping that a good long soak in the tub will hopefully have some kind of effect on him. And the quietness of the night startles him again when his phone rings. "I told you, I'm going to the pharmacy," Samir tells Kaya through the phone in his native tongue. "Yes. Yes. I will." |
