Al-Adil noted the change in the other man's temper. It hit him like a wall. His gaze went immediately to his children wandering among the displays, and he shifted ever so slightly to place himself more securely between them and the other vampire. There was no way to hide the gesture from Djinn, so he met the other man's eyes steadily, making certain that he understood.
"If I have offended you, I apologise," Al-Adil said levelly. "It is not my custom to speak so. I forgot myself." It should not have surprised him that a man called Djinn understood Arabic. He had, after all, got the name somehow. Now, Al-Adil was wondering just how apt it truly was. He could not bring himself to entirely retract what he had said. Valerian had too thoroughly earned his scorn. He did regret, however, that he had not considered how his careless words might affect the prince's childe who had never done him any wrong.
