Your loyalty is a virtue, but not when it’s wedded with blind stubbornness.

These 'cookies' are some form of witchcraft, are they not?

ANNE BOLEYN
Did you consume this 'fortune cookie'? I assume you were in receipt of one as well.

This is customary in your home as well?

It's not common knowledge, and it wasn't until a few years ago that I saw something that I'd define as magic. It's still largely believed that magic or anything of the like is a work of fiction.

And not the work of the Devil?

I guess it depends on your definition, human-kind can be just as evil as any story I've read about the Devil. I wasn't as lucky back home, I ran into a lot of bad luck so I'm a bit skeptical here, but I've tried to be open-minded here, not everyone with magic is evil.

I am well aware of the evils of man. Witchcraft is not quite the same, not to my knowledge.

If it helps, I don't think I've ever seen your version of the Devil. But it's all part of several very long stories.

One would not survive such sight, I imagine.

I like to think I'd have a fighting chance, but you're probably right.

I'm Lara, by the way.

Does not bear consideration.

Charles Brandon, Duke of Suffolk.

Huh

So I'm guessing the time difference has been a little bit of a shock?

My home is further south, in Surrey.

Quite so. I am a man displaced in time, it would seem.

Ah, I am fairly well acquainted with the Earl of Surrey.

If you ever have any questions, let me know. There really should be a guide for those from a different time or world.

From your time, all I know is from history texts. My father was a Lord, but I never did fit in with high society.

It would be of some benefit.

Apologies, perhaps I should be addressing you as Lady Lara.

Please, Lara is just fine. Lady Lara brings back too many memories of fancy clothes and getting scolded for ruining said fancy clothes.

But if you have a title you prefer for yourself, I'll use it.

I suppose titles are of little import here.

For some, maybe. Everyone has a preference though, just depends on what you're comfortable with.
