Reservation. When white people came to North America they forced the native tribes out of more and more of the best land, and the okay land, and the pretty average land. Eventually they drew a few lines on the map and dumped anyone who hadn't been slaughtered, executed, died of plague or starved inside them, then wrote in the history books about how generous they were to the barbarian savages who did uncivilised things like keeping their side of treaties, letting everyone have a say and valuing people more than money and power. I spent parts of my childhood on one. In a material sense they're pretty hellish, but I never felt lonely out of place there.

Mostly before my time. The last forced-assimilation school closed in 1973, which was a few years before I was born.

Probably depends how loosely you define them. The worst ones were a century or so, I think. They were less sophisticated before that.

Sick of a culture where every interaction is something that can be won or lost and it's completely normal for people to reach adulthood without ever learning to compromise or even actually listen to what other people are saying.

Of course. There's starting to be a lot of decent apps these days as well. Last I checked the best ones were The ASL App and SignSchool, but apparently there's one with Care Bears too, because the internet's a very special place.

She's my roommate, but I don't know her all that well. I honestly don't spend much time I honestly don't know a lot about SHIELD, other than Steve and Natasha worked for them for a time.

Where I'm from they've tended towards the fascist side of basically every dispute in the community. Then last year they were exposed planning to use cosmic cube fragments to change reality for people they deemed to be threats and neutralise them, tried to arrest the whistleblower, got into a big fight with Captain America at the time, lost and told everyone they'd destroyed the cube fragments, then got caught doing exactly the thing they'd just claimed was an unvetted proposal they never intended to act on.

I'm sure they can be rehabilitated. But not by someone who won't even listen to anyone else unless they're agreeing with her. That's the exact problem SHIELD had before.

I see, and I can understand why you feel that way. I suppose I was so eager to belong to a group again whose focused was on to protect others, that I didn't stop to consider. Looking back at the conversations, I can see why there are reservations.
