So I’d give this AU!New York a full three stars. ⭐⭐⭐

It seems pretty accurate and I had been meaning to come back to visit. It’s missing a few of the best pieces though like my favorite coffee shop, everyone who lives here in my preferred universe, and also the ability to leave. You should probably fix that part because it seriously ruins the whole effect when the background loops. Have you watched animations like that? They're awful. Wraparound backgrounds may save time and effort but they’re lazy and they suck. Hanna-Barbera? More like Hanna-Barfera.

The ostriches are really great, though. I tacked on half a point just for them so you’re in solid "I’m already logged into Amazon so might as well" territory. But there’s still a lot of room for improvement. Unless this all turns out to be the inside of a giant snow globe again. That's not fun, it's not funny, and I’ll take it all back.

Are there people here from your home? Do they have the same memories as you? That’s a really good way to test things out. It’s not a sure thing because some AUs are like fanfiction.net obvious but others can be more subtle.

It’s a start, though.

Different. Like really very wholly different from where I come from but overall I like of like it! The people are really nice and pizza exists in this world and I'm really really fond of pizza. There's also birthday parties, and you are totally invited to mine if you want. It's today :D

It doesn’t sound like the worst AU ever? That was the Gotham that was overrun with vampires that was so bad and so scary. It still gives me nightmares. Also it doesn’t feel euphoric to get bit by vampires like Anne Rice leads you to believe.

But I made promises about going out tonight. And now it looks like I flaked because I’d rather stay inside by myself and be a sadboi.

I know it seems really high since it’s kind of limited but there's a logic to it.

It doesn’t seem like a limbo or a hell plane. We’re not being absorbed and regurgitated by gelatinous monsters. We’re not enslaved. It's not heavily themed. And those aspects should rocket it up from a one star.

AU is short for alternate universe and in that alternate universe the world is different from the one that was established previously.

So there might be a universe where everyone was a pirate someone was royalty, but then in the alternate universe they wouldn’t be. And some things change in the world based on that while others aren’t impacted.
