While I'm not usually one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I'm a little confused by the sheer volume of paperwork I woke up to on my desk this morning.

Back in Lakewood, I had applied and been accepted to a couple of schools. I'd pretty much decided on NYU Tisch. Which is conveniently located right over there. But I still had a semester left to finish at GWHS. Do I test through that last semester of HS classes and start college classes or do I need to finish HS classes here? Does it not matter because of time travel and magic and all that jazz? Should I just throw my shit at Tisch and start signing up for classes?

I mean, I had already been talking to admissions because Peter and I had that conversation about it and I was going to do it anyhow and turns out they did still have all of my records on file and it was fine regardless.

I do have to say I'm really jazzed about the idea of being able to do this, though. Not that you need a college degree to be a filmmaker but at a certain point it's about honing your technique and making connections and networking and having access to equipment and technology that you wouldn't normally have as a lowly Vimeo videographer. And there is a very particular skill set that comes with documentary filmmaking. Journalistic ethics is kind of a big deal. And you do need credentials to gain access to certain places and people. Like the holy grail of true crime interviews.

It feels like you might be overthinking this.

Are you gonna go somewhere? There are some great dance schools in the city.

There's no way I could actually get into one. I'll just stick to whenever those other classes start up that Leia was talking about offering.

You never know until you try! And what harm is auditioning? At least they might give you notes and then you know what to work on and you can go back and audition again later. But taking classes isn't a bad idea either way.

I was looking at some schools this way back home, but I never applied.

I'm going to apply, though, because why not, right?

You totally should!

I saw that Five talked to you about it but I didn't want to butt in. I'm more than happy to help you with applications and essays and stuff if you need a hand with that sort of thing.

What sorta paperwork are you supposed to have for school?

[info]fknaudrey

School transcripts are the most important thing to have, first. Then you request an application from the schools you're interested in. And they'll usually ask you for an essay or a statement of intent to send along with your information and everything else. The Entity seems like it's made it pretty easy, though. Very streamlined. Efficient. I, for one, appreciate it.

They have so many classes tailored towards documentary filmmaking and a bunch of stuff on theory and symbolism and how sound or certain camera techniques evoke certain feelings in film.

And, of course, there's all the safety and ethics and technique stuff that you'd expect to find, too.
