Who: Noah and Stiles Stilinski
Where: Apartment 5-A
When: 29th Nov
What: Noah catches up with his kid
Status: Ongoing
Warnings: Possible language - will update if required

Noah had been in this new world for a couple of days and it was definitely odd. The apartment building was comfortable and though he hadn't seen much of his roommates so far, he had managed to make himself at home. At least, as much as he could outside of Beacon Hills. The only real blessing about being here was that Stiles and his friends were also part of this world, which meant he didn't have to spend time in his own house wondering why the damn place was so quiet!

He sent a quick text to his son asking if he was doing anything and when Noah got the go-ahead he headed next door to see Stiles. "Hey son, how's your day been?" he asked as he stepped through the door and looked around. "Anyone else home?" he asked, wondering where the others were keeping themselves.

Stiles hadn't been home for very long, but long enough to get out of his work clothes and to grab anything he thought he might need out of the bedroom since Lydia wanted to nothing but sleep after work. He had just set his laptop down on the coffee table when the knock came.

He walked over and answered the door. "Hey," he greeted back as he let Noah in and then shut the door behind his dad. "Busy, but okay." He thought about it for a moment. "Nope. I think Cora went out to buy a tree and stuff. Scott, I have no idea. And Lydia is at work." He walked over to the couch and sat down. "How are you doing?"

It was strange to think of his son working cases like he did, but Noah had accepted long ago that Stiles was going to go into law enforcement. He just hadn't anticipated he'd go full Fed. "Working anything specific?" he had to ask, because the talk so far was small and need a helping hand along the way. "Is there even crime in Goodland? I mean, do the other residents even know about the Entity's antics?" Noah still had so many questions about the world they were living in and they were in danger of all coming at once.

"A tree, huh? Not sure if I'm going to bother this year," he told Stiles with a nod, though he was glad his kid would get the full Christmas experience. "It would seem a little weird to do it on my own, you know?" Noah said with a small smile. "So, Scott and Cora... didn't see that one coming," he said with wide eyes. "This place certainly has a lot to get used to," he answered with a nod, "but I'm doing okay. I think I'm doing okay, anyway," Noah told Stiles with a nod.

"not really," he said with a shrug. "Shockingly, yeah, there is. As for that, I have no idea if they know about the entity or not. I don't bring it up. I don't want to look like I'm a crazy person." Unless it was with the people in the apartment building, he defintely kept the weird stuff to himself since he had no idea if anyone out of the building knew anything.

"Yep, a fake one," he told his dad. "Pah, you can do it with us. Do you really think any of us are going to let you sit around and do nothing." He'd drag his dad by his feet if he had not. "Yeah, I didn't see that coming either since I was the one who liked her before." He leaned back and shifted in his seat a little so that he was looking at his dad while they talked. "You'll get used to it after a while."

"At least I'm not gonna get bored here," he replied once he knew there was actual work to do on the island. Of course he was going into law enforcement, in some capacity, it was pretty much all he knew how to do and just because his son was making waves didn't mean Noah was going to sit back and let him get the good cases. "Hey, maybe we'll even get to work together," he said giving a tentative smile towards his son. "Hate to break it to you Stiles, but the crazy ship sailed a long time ago," he teased, knowing his kid would take it on the chin as he always did.

"You don't get the great smell with a fake tree," Noah replied, "but then you don't get to pick needles out of your feet for the rest of the year either. I see the benefits of both." He couldn't help chuckle at Stiles' reaction to his attempted opt-out of holiday cheer. "Hey, if you wanna drag me along and feed me great food, I'm not going to resist too much," Noah told him happily. "It's going to be strange you playing host to me, though," but he couldn't deny his kid was grown and flown now. It was his job to support from afar and let Stiles spread his wings wide. "And Scott's happy too?" he asked, having spent almost as much time with Scott as he had his own son through the years. They were one huge, extended and dysfunctional family, which Noah loved.

"Trust me, you will never get bored here. Not with all the strange that happens around here," he told his dad. He was still hoping whatever came next wasn't something massive. He really didn't want his dad to deal with anything too crazy. "Maybe! That would actually be kind of cool. Working together, instead of me stealing your files and going off on my own... Hey! You're not supposed to call me crazy."

He shrugged. "Yeah, but it's less mess and we're not killing a tree," he pointed out. "I knew you couldn't turn it down." He smiled. "It will be a little weird, won't it? It's the new normal!" Now that was a question h wasn't too sure of. "I guess he is. I mean he mostly is. He gets weird Cora acts like Cora. But I guess mostly he's happy."

"Good, I didn't come here to retire," he answered with a nod, "and now that you're living with Lydia I need something to keep me busy." If that was work, so be it, it would be good to see the youngsters making their own way, though he'd always be around if they needed guidance. "I thought you'd balk at the idea of bring-your-dad-to-work-day," Noah said with a chuckle, "but yeah, it would be kinda cool to work a case together. It would make a nice change from you keeping me out of the loop until the shit hits the fan," he said giving his son's shoulder a loving squeeze. "I get to call you crazy. I raised you and you're crazy!" Noah teased, flashing Stiles a grin to show he wasn't even slightly serious.

"I could point out that you're killing the planet instead with all that plastic," he replied with a smirk, "but mess-free is hard to argue with. Fake it is." Noah wasn't even going to try to deny spending Christmas with his family would be hard work for him. He was going to love it. "We're all about weird, aren't we? I think we'll handle it," he told Stiles encouragingly. "I think I'm going to like the new normal," he said with a nod, "so long as I don't get roped into washing up."

Noah wasn't quite sure what to make of that answer and his brow furrowed a little. "Are you telling me that a guy's struggling to figure out what a girl wants?" he asked with a snort of amusement. "Since Adam met Eve, it's been the same old story. Guess I'm going to have to keep an eye on him. Make sure he's not fucking up too much," he told Stiles with a grin. "You too, but that goes without saying."

"You could pick up fishing if you retired," he teased. He could not imagine his dad doing such a thing. "I could, but you made me who I am today and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be in the FBI if it weren't for you. So, yeah, I think it would be cool if we got to work on something together." He grinned. "I got my crazy from you." If his dad was going to call him crazy, then he might as well blame him for it.

"We're all killing the planet no matter what we do. But at least we're not killing a tree that will have to get thrown out at the end of the month," he pointed out. "I'm more used to weird than normal. Is that wrong?" he asked. "You'll have to talk to Lydia about the dishes."

He nodded his head. "But this is no ordinary girl. This is Cora Hale. She's definitely not like any normal girl. You can take over for me and Lydia," he joked. "Hey, I haven't fucked up. I think I've been doing pretty well with Lydia."

Noah pulled a face at the idea of fishing. "Only problem with that is you might actually catch something and then you have to either drag a hook out of it's mouth and toss it back or beat it to death and pretend it tastes good when it's eaten," he said with a shudder. "I'm thinking I should work until I die, if that's the only option," he told Stiles with a chuckle. He couldn't help the crinkled smile of pride that smacked him in the face when his son handed him the compliment about his joining the FBI. He wasn't totally certain he deserved the credit, seeing as Stiles had seemingly raised himself most of the time. "So we hope something grisly enough happens that the feds get called in?" Noah asked with a small smile, "and as wrong as it sounds to hope for it, I kinda do wanna work with you too," he said with a nod. "Kid, you got a whole lot of shit from me, the crazy's only the start!" he laughed.

"Face it," Noah told him, "the planet's fucked and so are we, so let's just have a good Christmas, huh?" he didn't honestly believe that and his inner hippie wanted nothing more than to find a recycled tree and have a vegan epic dinner, but meat tasted far too good for all that and he doubted there were many recycled trees. "Nah, it's not wrong, but it's pretty fucked up," he said giving Stiles a quick hug. "Weird is kinda what we do now so might as well embrace it or it'll make you even more crazy." Noah pulled a face and shook his head, "ouch. I do hope that wasn't the voice of a guy keeping his woman chained to the kitchen sink or I may have to make you do the dishes on your own," he said giving his son a gentle cuff.

"So what's so abnormal about Cora Hale?" Noah asked, adding all the definition on her name that Stiles had. "Not sure I can handle another full-time job if Scotts screwing up that much," he said with a sad shake of his head. "Keep up the good work, kid, you've got a good one there." And from his conversation with Lydia he suspected she felt the same about Stiles, which made his heart swell a little with happiness for both of them.

"And now you've made fishing sound very horrible," he said, scrunching up his face. "When you say it like that, that sounds pretty bad. But, yeah, that would probably be the only way we could actually work together." He shook his head. "I feel like you shouldn't be laughing. Maybe feel a little sorry for me, huh?" he joked.

"Pretty much," he said in agreement. "It is fucked up." First, it was all the crazy stuff in Beacon Hills and now this place. He really didn't think he'd ever have a normal life. "This place is already driving me crazy," he admitted. "You know I'm not like that."

Stiles stared at his dad for a moment before saying, "She's like a female version of Derek. Need I say more?" He thought that was explanation enough. "I know I do. So much so that I've beenlookingatrings."

"Hunting and fishing aren't manly, they're just brutality wrapped up in the guise of sport," he answered with a shrug. "And it's probably why I stick to hunting criminals instead of animals," Noah told his son with a smile, "cause at least they deserve what's coming to them." He watched Stiles think the whole thing through and grinned, "with a city this size, I'm pretty sure grisly happens all the time. We'll just see the bright side in the darkness and enjoy working the case," he said with a nod of his head. Noah couldn't help himself, he was laughing even harder at the kid's response. "Oh, I'm incredibly proud of the shit-ton of genetic fallout I've passed along," he told Stiles happily, "and I can't wait to see how it turns out. Not even slightly sorry," he told his son with a grin.

"It's our life, Stiles. As fucked up as it is, it's a good life," he said softly. "Wouldn't change it for the world," Noah gave his boy a hug. "How crazy are we talking here? Barking at the moon crazy, or just your usual brand?" he asked wanting to know what Stiles had been dealing with here. "Good job you're not or I'd have to lecture you into some sense," he said with a smirk.

A female Derek? Wow. "Okay... that sounds... and Scott's actually into this?" bad choice of words, but Noah was a little past caring.

Noah's mouth dropped open when Stiles mentioned rings and for a moment he was lost for words, which was rare indeed! As he looked at his son he felt another bubble of pride and his mouth turned up at the corners and he pulled Stiles into an bear-hug. "I couldn't be more happy for both of you," he said from the heart. "Did you find one? When are you planning to ask her? This is amazing! I'm gonna be a father-in-law... maybe a grandpa too... "

"Yeah, you're definitely working until your very last breath. Or they force you to retire. One of the two." He grinned. "Well, the city isn't that big. I mean, it's not small either. But not as big as it could be." It was only a slice of New York. It could be so much bigger. "Maybe it's a good thing I only have half of your genetics, huh."

He knew that. The crazy was just attracted to them all no matter where they ended up. "It's crazy. Mazes with monsters. Singing leprechauns. Joke telling frogs. And we wake up in different cities."

He laughed. He didn't know why, but it was just funny. "Obviously. Although, she seems to be opening up a little more than Derek. At least she talks to us. He doesn't."

Even Stiles was a little impressed that Noah seemed to be speechless. It took a lot to do that! He hugged back and then stared at his dad as the five hundred questions were tossed his way. "No, I haven't found one yet. I don't know when I'm going to ask her. And whoa, back up there, you're jumping far into the future here."

"They'll have to pries my badge out of my cold, dead hands!" Noah said theatrically, cause unless the retirement package came with a whole lot of perks he didn't know about, he wasn't buying into it! "Aren't there more murders in New York than anywhere else?" he asked Stiles, "or is this place less murder-happy? I mean, that would be a good thing, obviously. Just not for our work prospects," he said warming to the idea of the two Stilinski's on a case together. "Son, I hate to break it to you," Noah said with an arm around his son's shoulders, "but your genetic profile is way more papa-heavy than half!" It was like looking in a mirror sometimes, although Stiles had inherited a few of Claudia's traits he held dear too.

"Are you allowed to splat joke-telling frogs and singing leprechauns?" Noah asked entirely dead-pan. "Or shoot them? Cause that sounds like torture rather than crazy." Monsters were an everyday thing, though waking up in new cities was a big deal - or had been until incredibly recently.

Noah still wrinkled his nose just a little, wondering if a talking-Derek really would be any better. "Scott never picks the easy route, does he?" was the diplomatic answer he settled for. "So they're together now? I have to make room for this in my head? Or do I just file it under 'TBD' and pretend I know nothing?"

"Hey, I wanna see you tortured by miniature Stiles' before I die," Noah told his son with a broad grin, "so I'm looking to the future, like it or not and don't worry, I won't spoil the surprise. My kid, a married man... good going, son," he said hugging Stiles once more. "When you know, you know," he murmured, echoing the conversation he'd had with Lydia a few days earlier. Oh yes, you knew alright!

"I can picture it happening in my head." He really could. "Real New York, maybe. But this if fake New York. And not even all of New York. Just a sliver of it." He laughed. "And that doesn't scare you?"

He shook his head no. "They always came back. There was no way to get away from them unless you went into the bathroom, but even then there was a time limit."

Stiles had to laugh. "No, he doesn't. Umm, define together."

With a fake look of shock, he gasped. "That's not nice. You're not supposed to want to see me get tortured. Anyway, don't forget, it would be a mix of me and Lydia if we did have kids." Which was not soon. Like at all. "Not married yet. Not even engaged." He leaned in and jus let his dad hug him yet again. "I think I pretty much knew since the third grade."

Noah gave his son a half-smile and replied, "just try not to picture it too soon, huh? I have shit I want to do still." Even if this version of New York were smaller and without the coverage of the original he couldn't quite imagine it being so different. "Isn't population density more the issue? The more people are here the more likely they are to go batshit," he said with a knowing nod. It was one of the reasons he'd opted to stay in a small town, fewer horror scenes - which hadn't exactly worked out as planed. He raised an eyebrow, "are you kidding me?" Noah answered with a laugh, "I couldn't be more proud to see all my flaws and occasional gifts reflected in you, Stiles. It's almost magical, though mildly weird and disturbing at times."

He wrinkled his nose in disgust, "well I hope that particular plague is done with, cause I don't think I could handle those," Noah answered. He'd probably just run out of ammo and have to find some way of justifying discharging his weapon to the powers that be. Yikes.

"Well, traditionally 'together' means they're together!" he answered, giving Stiles a curious frown. "I know I haven't dated much in a while but have the rules really change so much?" Noah asked, wondering if he were about to get a lesson he really didn't want to hear from Stiles.

Noah grinned happily and sat back. "It's one of the joys of parenthood, so I'm told," he answered grinning. "Seeing your kids going through the same hell they put your through when they were kids and finding ways to top it while you sit back and fill them with sugar so that they turn up the volume to eleven." Oh yes, he was going to enjoy having grandchildren, one day. "All the mix means is that they'll have Lydia's brains and your energy. Good luck, kid," he said with a laugh. Yeah, he was totally getting ahead of himself but knowing Stiles was happy here meant absolutely everything to him. "Just don't put it off forever," he said softly, his smile waning ever-so-slightly, "you want to make the most of the time you have together."

"Oh yeah? Like what?" he curiously asked. "Sure, but we're also the only ones who actually live here. So, it could make things a little different." He really didn't know. He tried not to think too much about it. "Oh! See! Mildly weird and disturbing might as well be scary," he joked.

"I doubt it. Something always happens to us every month. We just never know what until it's here," he pointed out.

"They hang out and have sex, but I don't think they've actually said they're officially dating."

He really hadn't thought of it like that before. "Oh god, we're never sleeping again if we ever have kids." He knew that. He really didn't need to be told that. It was why he didn't want to waste too much time on this whole ring hunt. But he also knew that he didn't want to rush everything either. There was a nice balance somewhere and he knew Lydia and himself would figure it out.

"Hell if I know," Noah answered with a laugh, "but I know it won't be fishing. Maybe I'll learn another language or something," he said with a shrug. "All I know is I'm not nearly done with breathing," he told his son. Noah wrinkled his nose trying to understand what he was being told. "So the apartment building is all we have to police? I guess that makes for lots of coffee breaks?" he said wondering how they were going to fill time without going barking mad. "Scary is a whole other level! Just mild disturbance, that's all," he said laughing along with his son.

Every month? Jeez! "Expect me to get grouchy from time to time," he warned with a shake of his head. Noah couldn't help but wonder what would come next after frogs and leprechauns, but it sounded as though it would annoy the shit out of him!

"Okay, way too much information," he said giving Stiles the Time Out signal. "No idea where you got your lack of filter from," Noah said calling back to their early conversation, "but I hope it wasn't me!" It almost certainly was, though, and Noah knew it.

He shook his head and laughed, "and welcome to the wonderful world of parenthood," Noah said giving Stiles' shoulder a tender squeeze. "You're going to be an amazing father and husband," he said more seriously. "Lydia's lucky to have found you, I hope you know that, kid."

"I would hope not. You have to live forever." Honestly, he didn't want to think about that stuff. Losing his mom sucked. He wasn't sure how he would react when the time came for his dad. Nope. He really didn't want his mind going down this dark path. "I don't know if that's any better."

He was pretty sure his dad was going to be more than grouchy when he started having to deal with the crazy. "Okay."

Stiles gave his dad a I got it from you look. "You asked!"

He didn't want to be in the world. Not yet. They were definitely too young to have kids yet. "I just know that I'm lucky to have her."

Alright, that conversation had gone to a place Noah hadn't intended and Noah could see it in his son's eyes. "I'll do my damnedest, you can count on that," he told Stiles with all the love he felt for his son. He flashed him a smile and told him, "you're going to have to keep me busy, so I don't decide to check out early on you," he teased gently, knowing keeping him on his toes was a Stiles specialty.

"Just because I ask something doesn't always mean I need to know the details!" He thought Stiles had figured that part out by now, but it seemed like the kid still had stuff to learn.

Noah knew that feeling, all too well and nodded then pulled Stiles back for another hug, "and I'm lucky to have you. I love you, kid," he told Stiles softly. His little boy was really growing up and Noah liked the man he was becoming. Almost felt like he didn't fuck up with raising him.

"I know," he said with a half-smile. "I'm sure I can keep you busy right along with all of the stuff that this place likes to throw at us."

He shrugged. "This is me we're talking about here. When have I ever held back when you've asked me a question?"

There was so much hugging going on. Not that he was hating it. He had missed his dad. "Love you, too, old man," he said with a huge grin as he pulled away.
