MORGAN
MARKUS

The wedding had been beautiful beyond words, and Morgan was deliriously happy for her parents. If anyone deserved a fairytale ending after all that they had been through? It was Tony and Pepper. And what better way to celebrate that happy ending than a huge Stark party?

Given the size, however, Morgan hadn’t wanted to overwhelm Markus. She knew he was still getting accustomed to this world, and diving headfirst into an extravagant affair when you aren’t accustomed to big crowds? Well, that would have definitely fallen into the ‘overwhelming’ category.

So, instead, she had slipped into his lurking spot while he was there and reminded him that she would see him afterward before returning to the party.

Goodland was beginning to turn her into a bit of a romantic. Before coming here, Morgan hadn’t been one ever to romanticize anything. Sure, she always saw shades of grey in a world where most only saw black and white, but this was entirely new territory for her.

She smiled to herself as she approached Markus’ apartment. Morgan was still wearing her maid of honor dress, but she had taken her hair down and ditched her heels for more comfortable flat shoes.

She was on cloud nine as she knocked on his door, and was sure it was written all over her face.

Although Markus had accompanied Carl to his exhibitions, he wasn't used to socialising in large crowds. As much as he'd wanted to be at the Stark Wedding for Morgan and, by extension, her family he was aware how lavish the affair was likely to be. During the service he'd ducked into to watch the vows and later he'd taken up a spot to watch the speeches and formalities.

The entire affair was a curio to Markus. He'd read about such weddings but hadn't ever attended one himself, so he studied it as he would any other human behaviour, though when Morgan joined him for a moment he was more than a little distracted.

When the speeches ended he headed home and remained in his suit, knowing that Morgan had promised him a dance in her gorgeous dress. Markus would have felt underdressed without comparable attire. He didn't know if she'd still be hungry after such a banquet, but made sure the refrigerator held enough snacks to keep her going, should she need them. Then he relaxed with a book until the door knocked.

When he opened the door he could see the happiness almost radiating from Morgan as he welcomed her inside. Her mood was infectious and immediately put a smile on Markus' face too. "I take it you've had a good day?" he asked, "and your parents too, I hope?"

Morgan's smile widened when he opened the door; if she was tired at all after the long day, it didn't show as she slipped by him into the apartment. "It was wonderful for everyone. I couldn't have dreamed up a better wedding for them." She kept saying how delighted she was for her parents, but she was also happy for herself. How many children, aside from divorced families that came back together, got to witness their parents' wedding? It was just yet another thing that aided in her belief in magic.

It went beyond the wedding, though. The fact that she had her family here and that it was whole? That aside from the patented Goodland mishaps along the way, that they all had a shot at the happiness that they hadn't been afforded in their respective realities? Well, there just weren't enough words in any language to describe how it made her feel. "I'm glad you came," she said- and moved forward to slip into his arms.

He was watching the happiness in Morgan's face every bit as much as listening to her speak about the wedding and every word made Markus' smile a little broader. It was as though The Easter Bunny, The Tooth Fairy and Santa had all arrived at once and made all her dreams come true. It was a delight to bask in her glow and he was just happy to share the experience with her.

"I wouldn't have missed it," Markus said as he closed his arms around her and held her tight. "You looked stunning," he told her with a smile. "By which I mean the event looked good on you, as well as the dress," he said giving her a soft kiss on the lips. "It was an amazing ceremony," he commented, "it's obvious how much your parents mean to one another," to which Markus could relate. "It really meant a lot to you to see them get married, didn't it?" he asked Morgan softly.

Morgan looked up to meet his eyes, her own lighting up at his compliment. "Thank you," she murmured softly before his lips met hers. "And you look rather dashing in this suit." Smiling again, she emphasized her words by fiddling with the lapels of his jacket.

It meant a lot to her that he had attended the ceremony, and she knew her parents appreciated his presence as well. She thought back to the dance with her father, and how he had commented on how lucky Markus was to have her. While she was sure Markus would agree, she still felt as if she were the lucky one.

At his question, she nodded and rested her head against his chest. "I don't think I could ever put into words just how much. It's not something I ever thought I would get to see, and I know that I've been with them here for a while now and that I've seen them together every day. But this? This was special. I'll never forget today."

He gave a small smile and adjusted his tie for effect, "why thank you! I was going for 007 but without the dubious sexual politics and with fewer enemies," Markus told her with a mischievous smile. At least, he had far fewer enemies in this world - his own was... to be determined. Would he have ever seen a time in his life when he'd face a room-full of guests, just in order to see Morgan walk down the aisle to her father? Never. It had been worth all the dressing up and working out what a robot-boyfriend should wear to his girlfriend's parents' wedding.

Markus rested his chin on her head and held her tight, feeling her heart beat happily against his as she spoke about her parents. "It makes sense you should be here to see it," he said softly. "You were so young when you lost Tony in your own world, seeing all this now... it makes sense," he didn't know why Goodland had provided the experience, but he knew Morgan needed this almost as much as her parents did. "I'll never forget it either," he said softly.

"But I seem to remember you promising to show me pictures," and there might have been the promise of a dance. "Show me everything," he asked excitedly, wanting to see the wedding through Morgan's eyes.

"I think you managed the look you were going for and then some. Reaching up to cup his cheek, she smirked then arched an eyebrow. "Does that make me a Bond girl?" Fictional character comparisons aside, she did think he looked incredibly handsome.

Morgan closed her eyes, sighing happily and breathing him in. "I'm glad it makes sense," she replied softly and pulled back just enough to look up at him again. "Thank you for understanding the chaos in my mind; sometimes, I don't think any of it makes sense to anyone other than myself. Then I talk to you, and it doesn't seem so chaotic anymore."

"Oh, yes. I did promise that, didn't I? And I have tons of pictures on this," she began- retrieving her phone from her bag and holding it up with an amused smile. "But, I believe you owe me something first." Her smirk returned as she reluctantly left his arms long enough to discard her bag and phone. Turning back to Markus, her eyes sparkled again. "Dance with me?"

"Phew, cause I thought I'd over-shot it by a mile," Markus answered, his eyebrow lifting in teasing amusement as she touched him softly. "No," he said taking Morgan's hand from his cheek and shifting it to his lips where he kissed each finger softly. "It makes you my girl. But with entire autonomy and the strength of character not to define yourself by the man you're with," he said with a small chuckle, "which might have saved me from sounding like a caveman. Possibly."

Markus gave a soft nod, "I understand. You've missed out on having a father, so now you want to see it all, even the parts you weren't involved in. It makes sense," he assured her softly. "You always find a way to calm my fears too," he told her with a crooked smile, "so we're good for one another," he said looking down into her eyes and swallowing deeply. He'd never tire of looking at her, as long as he lived.

"I do?" Markus looked at her with feigned confusion as she ditched her peripheries and turned back to him. "Ahh, there was a dance promised!" he said and sent a signal to the stereo system to play the gentle waltz he'd picked out earlier. He took one hand and solemnly bowed, pressing his forehead to the back of her hand, "it would be my honour," he said as he spun her gently until she rested back in his arms. "I've been waiting for this all day," he whispered.

Morgan felt her heart flutter as he spoke, and with each kiss to her fingertips. She couldn't help the sweet smile that crossed her features. "Your girl." She wondered if hearing that would ever cease to cause the butterflies in her stomach. At that moment? Morgan very much doubted that it would. Scrunching her nose playfully, she laughed softly. "Possibly," her tone was teasing, but her happy little smile was still there.

"I'm glad I get to be the one to calm your fears." The girl couldn't be falling for Markus more if she tried. "We are good for one another if I do say so myself." Lifting herself onto her tiptoes, she pressed her lips to his.

Morgan's eyes widened in surprise when the waltz began to play, and she bit her bottom lip with another smile as he bowed. The scene unfolding before her was like one in some of those old movies she had watched. Oh, she was definitely turning into a hopeless romantic, not that she minded in the slightest. Twirling into his arms, she met his gaze and matched his steps. "So have I. All day," she replied- her voice a whisper as well.

He loved that smile and the way her eyes lit up when she said the words. "And I'm your guy," he whispered softly, kissing the tip of her scrunched up nose.

Markus couldn't believe that he'd found this world and in it this woman who made him feel so much. It was as though Morgan were Cinderella and his Fairy Godmother wrapped up into one perfect package, making all his dreams come true. "Amazing, given how many fears I have," he told her with a small smile, "so be prepared to do quite a lot of calming." He was teasing, just a little, but there was truth in those words that he knew he couldn't hide. Not from Morgan, anyway. Markus bent to kiss her tenderly. "I'm so lucky to have found you," he said holding her tightly.

With Morgan in his arms, Markus waltzed her around the apartment like a pro and he couldn't help but grin like a loon as they moved together. "See what I can do when I'm not on ice?" he teased gently as he danced. "One day I'll take you climbing with me," he said softly. "I want to share the world with you, always," Markus told her as the music ended and he bowed once more and kissed her hand. Looking into her eyes he couldn't help himself, "I love you, Morgan," he said in barely a whisper.

"You are absolutely my guy."

His tone was teasing, but she knew him well enough to know that there was truth lurking beneath the surface. Morgan framed his face with her hands, her voice sincere when she spoke. "I'll be here to calm every last one of them, no matter how many there are." And if any of them manifested in their reality, she would do everything in her power to protect him from them. "My father said that today, too. That you were lucky to have me, I corrected him, though. I told him that I'm the lucky one."

Morgan's butterflies kept fluttering away as they danced around the apartment. "You never told me you were so good at this. What other talents are you keeping secret." She laughed then, her eyes never leaving his. "Climbing," she asked with a tilt of her head, curiosity taking the reins for just a moment before she offered him another smile. "I want to share it all with you too, and explore the unknown, and cut out our own little corners of this world." There were so many things she wanted to show him, and had the music not ended; she may have lost herself in those thoughts. But, the music stopped, he was bowing again, he was kissing her hand, and then he was saying three little words. Who would have ever thought that three little words could make her heart feel like it was going to beat right out of her chest?

"Markus," she whispered- her voice cracking a little. Closing the space between them, she pressed her lips to his more passionately than she had before, wanting to convey everything she was feeling through that kiss, and when she had to break for breath, she looked up at him lovingly. "I love you too."

"Having met your father and spoken to him, I'm going to have to agree with him," Markus answered with a quirked eyebrow. They were both lucky, it was clear to him they felt the same way and it was a beautiful feeling. "I think, maybe, you have a few fears that need chasing away too," he said softly, "and I'm here for those too. All of it." The good times and the hard times, he knew would all be better with Morgan in his life.

"You'll have to stick around and find out," Markus teased gently, "I have hidden depths, you know?" In his mind he imagined the things they'd explore together and the places they'd go. "I like climbing," he answered simply, "and I think you'd like it too, even though you're more used to flying," he said with a smile. He could see them traversing the city skyline together and helping one another find the fastest routes. And races. Markus could see them competing over who would get to the top first, and the thought made him smile even more.

The kiss almost came as a shock after his words, but such a welcome one. Markus held her tight to him as their lips played their own waltz and when Morgan spoke he couldn't quite believe his ears. He knew how she felt - of course he did - but to hear it was like hearing a spell spoken and it sent sparks racing through his heart and mind. "There are so many things I want to say to you, Morgan, but I swear I'll never hurt you," he told her feeling giddy. "Your father would probably have me disassembled, but that's not the reason," he said with a wry smile. "I never want to see your face sad, or lonely. You mean the world to me."

"We're all just going to have to agree to disagree then," she teased, but she knew they were both incredibly lucky. "You're not wrong," Morgan murmured at the comment. There was a time she wouldn't have been so open to talking about her fears, but ever since that first day with Markus in the cafe, she knew she could tell him anything. He had so effortlessly brought down all of the walls she had built around herself. "The dark times and the light ones. All of it."

"Oh, I'm not going anywhere, especially now that I know you're keeping secret talents hidden away in those depths." Morgan winked, but then her eyes widened with delight when he spoke of climbing, "Can we go soon!?" She was already picturing it in her mind, and while she hadn't ever done it before or knew exactly what it entailed, her inner thrill-seeker was extremely excited.

Morgan could hardly believe this was happening. She hadn't been looking for love, but she was learning that the most amazing things could arrive within a moment when you weren't expecting them. Markus had taken her by surprise in the most beautiful way, and she wasn't sure she had ever felt more alive than she did at that moment. "I've never thought for a moment that you would ever hurt me, Markus," she replied softly- her arms slipping around his neck. If anything, she believed that she might be the one to hurt him. Now that Morgan knew that he loved her as she loved him? She was terrified she would lose him, and that it would be her own doing. She desperately didn't want to fuck this up.

"My father wouldn't disassemble you, he'd give you a virus," she teased before her tone turned soft again, "You mean so much to me. When I'm not with you, you are on my mind, and when we are together, I want to pause time to make our moments last longer. I never want to see you sad or hurt either."
