WHO: Lydia, Scott, and Stiles
WHERE: The High Line & beyond (maybe)
WHEN: Thursday evening
WARNINGS: only a pair of idiots so far ;)
SPOILERS? Unlikely?

It felt nice to get out of midtown. Even though Lydia traveled to Morningside Heights several times a week, that generally didn't quite feel like an escape. And after the week they'd been having so far, an escape was definitely desired. Things seemed to be reaching a safe equilibrium, so she'd jumped at the chance to get out of the apartment and do something with Stiles and Scott.

The golden hour was just starting as she dug into the gelato she'd grabbed from a vendor, and the warm glow combined with their elevated view almost made the island feel like a gilded gift. They didn't have views like this back home, certainly. Or much in the way of art installations. Pausing in front of one, an involuntary sigh escaped, seemingly loosening every muscle in her body at once. Yea, this was definitely something she'd needed.

"There are galleries at the end of this park that have free wine and cheese on Thursday nights." Not that she needed to do more than wander through the park, but the boys might. Then again, free wine in an art gallery might not exactly be their thing either.

"Ya think?" he was still waiting for something to come out and attack them. It was coming. They were never that lucky.

"Because...umm...you should just feel for me." Yeah, that was bad. Honestly, he didn't really want sympathy because Lydia was right. This was something that he was brought onto himself. "Scott," he put his hand up and made amotion that pretty much said to shut his trap.

"That's right. That idea sucks," Stiles agreed. "Now let's move on from this bad idea. New topic."

"Safe enough that we can pretty much handle whatever hits us, at least," Lydia amended Scott's sentence. Other than some strangers and that one guy who kept coming back, no one had died here. Unlike at home.

"I feel a lot of things for you, but sorry isn't one of them in this case." Truth be told, Scott was digging himself a hole much faster than Stiles could. But he also didn't have anything to lose. Not that Stiles did either, but she wasn't going to say that.

"Speaking of Malia... do you think she's okay with a whole apartment to herself?"

Scott nodded at Lydia's amendment, which was fair and added one of his own. "Let's just hope it stays that way, huh?" The last thing he wanted was to jinx their time here, it was good. More calm than life in Beacon Hills had ever been.

"Am I allowed to feel disgusted?" he chipped in looking at Stiles, "cause I can totally feel that for you. So it had been his idea and he knew it, but it was the way Stiles jumped in and ran with the ball that was one of his great joys in life. One of the many, many reasons they were friends.

Scott pulled a face at Stiles and gave him a roll of his eyes, before Lydia complied with his demand for a new topic and crunched the gears to a whole new place. "Malia told you that?" he asked with a frown. She hadn't mentioned it to Scott but they always seemed to be missing each other lately. "Think we need to get her out of there?" he asked, curious to know what more Lydia knew.

"I'll probably feel pretty disgusted after the challenge." Honestly, he was starting to wonder if he should just back out of it completely.

"Wait, what?" He quickly looked at Lydia a little confused by what she said. "Malia is living alone? When did that happen?" He really hadn't talked to Malia much since she arrived here, so he had no idea that she had no roommates. "What else don't we know?"

"What do the two of you pay attention to around here?" Was she the only one trying to make sure their friends were doing okay? Rounding on Scott, she held up a finger at him. "And if you start off your answer with Cora I will scream this place down."

He held his hand up at Lydia's response, "hey! It takes two, ya know?" Scott told her backing towards the ostriches and wondering if maybe he should just take his chances with the birds. "Not just Cora. Hi?" he said giving Stiles and then Lydia a small wave, "see, I take notice." He might not have been kicking down doors to find the rest of the pack, but Malia and Derek were independent at the best of times and he knew when to let them be.

"So, what is going on with her? Cause she's obviously talking to you," which made Lydia their best source of information right now.

"Weeeelll, you, Scott, work, the weird stuff that happens around here..." Did he feel a little bad that he had no idea what was going on with Malia? Sure. But she really hadn't been talking to any of them, so why would he know that she was living alone? He honestly couldn't even remember the last time they even spoke. "What he said," Stiles said with a quick look over at Scott.

"Well... barely!" Her frustration with that answer was pretty evident in her body language. She'd only noticed that Malia was only, she hadn't been told. "She's been bored, I set her up with one of the guys from school, her roommates all disappeared at some point..." a fact she only noticed a few days ago so who knew when it had actually happened. Crossing her arms over her stomach, she hugged herself a little. "I'm just sort of worried about her." No more disappearances if she could help it.

If he was totally honest he was tempted to dump the bag and run, but he was a big boy-alpha and could handle stuff. Yeah, even the pack banshee. Gulp. "Lyd, it's been a busy time for all of us. I just started school and I've been slammed," which was an excuse, but Scott spent hardly any time just chilling out in the apartment. He was either working or studying or studying for work or working at study!

"Alright, I get you're worried, but this is Malia," he said softly, trying to ratchet down a little of the tension between them and even risked a step forward. "We knew a lot of people just left, right?" he said with a pointed look Stiles' way, "but I didn't realise they were all next door. If she were in trouble, she'd come to us," he had reached out as often as he could and said as much. "Cora and I are literally next door and I haven't heard a peep," which showed how often he was in the apartment. "Cora's not mentioned it either," and the way Lydia was hugging herself Scott wondered if she was projecting a little of her own insecurities about the people leaving. He wasn't ready to die or loose his boy-parts, though, so he kept the analysis to himself.

"I've seen those posts. I never know what to say to them especially the ones that straight up say that she wants to fuck cute guys." Nope, he was not going to part of those posts. No thank you.

He did let Scott speak without interrupting and he did have a point. They were all busy with life stuff. "So, it sounds like Malia is fine. If she's not, then she kind of needs to actually talk to us and tell us."

Scott wasn't the only one to notice how Lydia was hugging herself as the conversation went on. He was starting to wonder if there was more to this than just Malia living alone. "What are you really thinking?"

"I'm thinking about Lenore," she answered quietly, making eye contact with Scott. From her perspective, it hadn't been that long since they'd been almost trapped there with her, and this place got too close to mimicking it sometimes for her comfort.

Ugh, she'd just been curious about what they thought and now this was the conversation they were having? "It seemed, before, like the people who didn't bother to engage and make friends and get jobs were the ones who left. But then ... that whole theory got knocked out." Along with several other ones. "I'm tired of losing people."

He could totally appreciate why Stiles didn't want to get in on the hot boy convos. It had to be seriously uncomfortable viewing for him, even if he was happy with Lydia. Scott gave him an understanding nod by way of recognition. If he were honest, it made Scott uncomfortable too, but it was clear he had hang ups.

The second Lydia mentioned Lenore he shifted the bag and dumped it in Stiles' arms. "Malia isn't Lenore," Scott told her softly, pulling her into a hug, "and although I'm giving her time and space to adjust, I'm not ignoring her. Neither are you," he said giving her a tight squeeze. Seeing the older banshee had shaken Lydia back home, but maybe he'd not realised just how deep the experience had cut her. He shot Stiles a tight smile and said, "you weren't there," which was all he needed to say. Probably the only time in their lives he could say that was when the Hunt had come to Beacon Hills.

"We're not going anywhere, Lyd," he whispered into her hair before letting her go and looking down into her eyes. "I promise you. We won't go without you," Scott said, "right Stiles?" he stepped back so that his friend could comfort his girl. "Whatever the theories, it doesn't apply to us, you got it? Is there any amount of ice-cream that'll help this go away?" he asked with a raised eyebrow, trying to give her a little smile of support too. "We're here for you," he said in a tone that defied argument, "and Malia, Cora and Derek too, but they have to want us to be there too."

The name didn't ring a bell. He obviously missed something and before he could even say anything he had bags shoved into his hands and Scott was taking over the conversation. "Where was..." he stopped before he kind of had a feeling he knew where he was. "This was when everyone forgot about me, isn't it?" And he was stuck with Peter Hale that whole time. Oh yes, fun times.

"Yep," he said pretty quickly. "As long as I have a choice, I'm staying put with you and Scott and everyone else. They will have to physically drag me away if they want to get rid of me." He shoved the bags back into Scott's arms and pulled Lydia into a hug. "I'd take a lot of tacos if we can move on from this conversation of sadness." He glanced up and saw one of the ostriches staring at them. "What are you looking at?" He pulled away. "We're not going anywhere. No ones leaving anyone behind. This place brought us here and it's stuck with us. Come on," he said grabbing the both of them and starting to drag them towards the elevators, "let's drown in food and think of better things."

Leaning into Scott's hug, Lydia nodded even though she didn't necessarily agree. He was trying and she accepted and appreciated that much. "We sort of remembered you by then," she pointed out, turning her head to look at Stiles. They'd at least believed he existed! "It's not just about you two, you know." Part of it was, but not the whole thing. "Not that that's permission to go away."

"Tacos! Yes." She wasn't changing the subject this time. That was for someone else to fuck up. Heading into the elevator first, she pushed the button and leaned against the wall, reaching out to hook her pinky with Stiles's.

Another time Scott mouthed to Stiles over Lydia's shoulder. He knew the fact that everyone forgot he'd even existed for so long still hurt, despite knowing they'd had no control over it. They'd all been traumatised in so many ways during the Wild Hunt, which was all too obvious from the way Lydia hugged him. She wasn't just scared about Malia becoming Lenore, from the sound of it. "We'd never leave without your permission," Scott said with a small smile as he grabbed the shopping once more and resumed his place beside the couple.

"Tacos thrown at you?" Scott asked with a raised eyebrow and a grin, trying to get the mood lightened a little once more. "I think those ostriches were getting jealous of all the loving," he told Stiles as he hopped into the elevator and watched their beady eyes follow them as the door shut behind them. "Maybe they want some Stiles too? Could pimp the guy out to the birds, Lyd?" he teased, knowing that he was just being a dork in order to make the others smile a little.

When the elevator opened he was first out and headed straight to his apartment, opening the door to let the others inside. "Anyone home?" he called, though he doubted there'd be any answer at this time of day. "Make yourselves at home, try not to break the house," he told them with a grin as he headed to the kitchen to unpack.

"Okay..." Stiles said looking between Lydia and Scott. "Still not going anywhere now." Not that he had any control over that. But if it were up to him, yeah, he'd stay put with Lydia.

"Don't waste perfectly good tacos." He shook his head. "Well, they're not getting any lovin' from me." He was shaking his head again at Scott's suggestion. "Nope. But we can hand you over to them."

Once they were inside the apartment, he made his way over to the couch and flopped down on it. "We're not going to break the house. Give us a little credit here. Now, chop-chop! Make us food!"

"I don't think the birds could afford it," she mused. "Even if Stiles was open to it. You on the other hand..." Teasing definitely felt like a safer conversation. As an added bonus, she could keep it up all night and not run out of material.

"That's what he says before breaking houses." The last inside, Lydia shut the door then went to join Scott in the tiny kitchen, unpacking the bags and balling them up. "Do you need help? I'm much better at chopping."

"You were the one casting aspersions on my perfectly good tacos earlier," Scott pointed out to Stiles. "I knew it would happen some day. We've finally found the thing that Stiles won't do!" he said with feigned horror, "and immediately you guys double-team me! Nope. I'm the wolf here, I'd eat those ostrich-fucks for breakfast," he said with a smug smile. "I've heard they taste like fillet steak," he said with his stomach chipping in with a rumble.

Scott laughed as Stiles started to order him around and rolled his eyes skyward. "If he breaks the place, I'll set Cora on him," he told Lydia with a chuckle. He was happy to have all the help he could get, "proper family-style cooking," Scott said with a nod as he passed her a knife. "Don't stick it in Stiles, even if he deserves it and we all take the blame for dinner - ground rules are good," he told her with a smirk. "You want drinks guys?" he asked, gesturing to the fridge where the sodas lived. "Help yourselves to whatever you need," he said as he started to get dinner on the go.

Stiles snorted. "You wouldn't do that. That means killing and we all know that you don't kill. So, try again, Wolf boy."

"Pfft. I'm not going to break anything. And there will be no setting Cora on me. Plus, she wouldn't hurt me. I saved her that one time." He had started to only half-listen to the conversation, but when Scott mention sticking something in him, it got his attention back. "What? No one is sticking anything in me."

Soda sounded good, but that meant getting up again. Drink. Don't move. Drink. Don't move. He finally got up and went into the kitchen to grab a soda. He also grabbed the candy out of the bag and tossed it into the fridge. "Anyone want anything before I walk away?"

Lydia was washing the vegetables to prep them for cutting and shook her head as the boys went on about stabbing Stiles. "I'm going to have to take all of the knives, aren't I?" Not that there were a lot in the kitchen. It wouldn't be too hard. "The food fight that's not happening doesn't need to then turn into a knife-throwing thing." Maybe there was something here that could be useful as a shield. Well, besides a human body.

Moving to the counter, she started cutting, shaking her head at the offer. "I'm good for now. Is there anything else you need, Scott?"
