WHO: Lydia, Scott, and Stiles
WHERE: The High Line & beyond (maybe)
WHEN: Thursday evening
WARNINGS: only a pair of idiots so far ;)
SPOILERS? Unlikely?

It felt nice to get out of midtown. Even though Lydia traveled to Morningside Heights several times a week, that generally didn't quite feel like an escape. And after the week they'd been having so far, an escape was definitely desired. Things seemed to be reaching a safe equilibrium, so she'd jumped at the chance to get out of the apartment and do something with Stiles and Scott.

The golden hour was just starting as she dug into the gelato she'd grabbed from a vendor, and the warm glow combined with their elevated view almost made the island feel like a gilded gift. They didn't have views like this back home, certainly. Or much in the way of art installations. Pausing in front of one, an involuntary sigh escaped, seemingly loosening every muscle in her body at once. Yea, this was definitely something she'd needed.

"There are galleries at the end of this park that have free wine and cheese on Thursday nights." Not that she needed to do more than wander through the park, but the boys might. Then again, free wine in an art gallery might not exactly be their thing either.

Stiles saw the look on Lydia's face and heard the disgust in Scott's voice. "Yeah. What? It was there and I was hungry so I ate it. It actually wasn't that bad." But enough of that conversation. He wanted to hear about Cora.

"Interesting? How is it interesting? You gotta give us more than that," Stiles pushed for more information. "Maybe it's a Hale thing. No soppy stuff," he suggested. "Oh? You'll have to tell us how that goes."

He could tell that mentioning Melissa was starting to get to Scott. "I miss my dad," he put out there. Yeah, sure he left Beacon Hills, but at least he could still be in contact with his dad. Not here. They were cut off from everyone they loved and cared about until they popped up. "I am glad that you guys are here, too, though." There was no way he would have stayed sane if he had to keep dealing with all of this alone.

"Don't make them suck then." He glanced over at Lydia and gave her dress a once over. "I'll make sure to aim the horrible taco your way and not anywhere near Lydia. I don't want to die."

"Do you actually have plans or are you hoping the romance just happens?" Lydia was aware of some of Scott's ideas on romance from Allison, Kira, and her own observations. She loved him, but she had a feeling this might not go so well.

Not wanting them to dwell on the sad turn, or admit out loud that she missed other peoples' parents more than her own mother, she flashed them both a small smile. "We're what we have and that's got to be enough for now. Right?" Wishing people here just meant they had to endure the terrible things that happened, too. That didn't feel fair.

"When he retaliates, I will use you as a human shield." Scott had better aim, luckily.

He was about to ask why he had to give them more. It was just the two of them, right? "It works, you know? In the bedroom," Scott said with a shrug, which was pretty much all the details he was getting into. "I guess I'd like it to be more, but it takes two for that," and Stiles might be right about the whole Hale-thing. Still, it didn't mean he was going to stop telling her how she made him feel. "I'm just going to see how it goes," he told Lydia, cause the whole romantic gesture thing seem to make things awkward.

"Alright, group hug!" Scott said as he grabbed the two friends and pulled them tight to him. "So long as we have each other, we can do this," he told them softly before letting them go with a pat on their backs. "I love you guys," and he would value what he had not what was missing. It was the only thing keeping him from going crazy right now.

Scott rolled his eyes, "maybe I'll just make yours suck," he said with a pointed smirk at Stiles. "And when you screw up and get Lydia messy, I can leave it to her to punish you."

"Soooo, she's all about the sex and you want mushy stuff and she's not going for it. I'm sure you'll figure it out." That's what it sounded like to him anyway. "I think in the end, if you really want something with Cora you're going to have to wait it out and not be too pushy." That was the best advice he could give.

Stiles moved in close and put his arms around both of the people that he loved. "Love you too, man." And Scott was right. As long as they had each other, they could deal with anything thrown their way.

"Well, you just killed the mood," he teased with a pinch to Scot's side before moving away, grinning. "Oh, I see how it is. You want me to get punished. I want a new best friend. I wonder if I can buy one here..."

"I think Stiles has a point about not pushing, but I also think it's fair for you to express what you want. If you think you can live with it, it's one thing, but you should be happy too, you know?" They all deserved to be happy.

Lydia hugged them both back tightly, the strong hold betraying her next comment. "I love you both, too, but people are going to stare." They were in the middle of the grocery store.

"Alright, boys, you're both pretty. Let's just make one batch of tacos and we can order pizza when the tacos let us down. What else do we need?"

Trust Stiles to totally reword his opinion and put it into the worst possible sentence! Scott might as well just hang up his romance-shoes and forget it. "I'm not being pushy," he said slightly more churlishly than he'd wanted to sound. Neither of his friends was being unsupportive, but he couldn't help but feel weird talking about this to them. "It just feels like we're doing things the wrong way around is all," he said with a shrug, "but I like her," so he'd see how it went. If it never moved on from where they were now, maybe he'd feel like changing things up.

"Let them stare," Scott said with a grin, "we'll just tell them we're a perfect thruple and if anyone judges us I'll pull the wolf-card out," he said with a wiggle of his eyebrows. "You guys are the best," he told them with one last pat, "you're all I need to feel at home," he said in a soft whisper, "also all I need to feel like I'm gonna get thrown out if Stiles grabbed my ass," he said giving a wave to a burly security guard who was looking their way.

"It's my god-given duty to kill all the buzz ever," Scott agreed and flinched when Stiles pinched him and slapped his hand before he could get totally done. "Yeah, we're pretty," he said with an eyebrow raised, "but who's got the bigger... taco?" he teased. "Sounds like a plan. C'mon home-team, let's get this food past the checkout before they toss us out."

"How exactly does it feel like you're doing things the wrong way around? I didn't know there was a right way to do any of that."

Stiles didn't care too much about the staring, but they really should stop hogging up most of the aisle. "Of course we are," he said with a huge grin. "Can't toss us out just because I grab your ass...which I'm not doing." He pulled away and grabbed the cart.

"Okay, enough taco talk. Let's finish getting stuff and go. I'm hungry," he told them as he started to walk off, pulling the cart along with him.

"We don't really have the time and space for doing things in whatever order you're thinking, Scott. If it works for you guys, it works, no matter the order," she shrugged.

"I'm not comparing soft tacos with burritos." Rolling her eyes, she left it in the air as to which metaphor went where as she followed behind the cart. Digging into her purse, she pulled out a few bills and held them out for Scott to take, more than enough to cover her and Stiles' portion of what was in the cart.

"Get to know each other, become friends, smile a little before dating one another," Scott ticked off the varying stages of relationships to his utterly clueless, and yet entirely coupled, best friend. "Moon over your chick for all of your schooling..." he threw in, just for Stiles, "before getting it on and moving in together. Stages."

He could see if from Lydia's perspective, particularly as she'd been going through the whole fear-of-loosing-people thing. "This is home now, Lyd," he said with a small shrug, "and just because I'm an alpha doesn't mean I have to behave like one. I don't want Cora in my bed cause I'm a werewolf, I want her there cause it's me," Scott said with a frown.

"What is this, double-team time?" he asked with a shake of his head at the comments from his friends. "Can't believe he wouldn't even grab my ass..." he said under his breath as he followed along behind. Scott pushed the cash back towards her purse, "when Stiles eats me out of house and home you can contribute and not before," he told her with a smile, "though it's appreciated."

He quickly bagged up the shopping and headed towards the doors. "C'mon kiddies, let's get you home and fed."

"Lydia does have a point there." It wasn't like they knew how long they were going to stick around this place. It was all up in the air. "Hey, let's not forget that my relationship with malia didn't exactly start normal." So, honestly, he wondered what exactly normal was because none of them seemed to have started anything in any kind of normal fashion.

"She hasn't told you to fuck off yet, soooo wouldn't that mean she's there because she wants to be and because it's you?"

Stiles looked at Lydia and then back at Scott before nodded. "Yep! And I heard that. If you really want me to grab your ass, all you have to do is ask."

Since Scott seemed to have taken control of the groceries again, Stiles grabbed Lydia's hand and started walking not far behind Scott.

"Don't throw away something that is sort of working for some idealized progression that I haven't experienced, either. Maybe no one has." It might have been hom but that didn't mean people wouldn't be lost. "I'm pretty sure Stiles is right. Cora doesn't do things or people she doesn't want to. Alpha or not."

Letting Scott take the lead, Lydia was happy to follow behind hand-in-hand with Stiles. "I've seen what he can put away, I don't think I'm that far ahead from having to pay you."

Scott knew it was true but he shot Stiles a worried frown all the same. He didn't want Lydia getting freaked out he might disappear again. If they had any control in this world, all the three of them would be sticking together for as long as they could. "I guess my Mom taught me a certain way not to be with women," Scott said after a long pause, wondering whether he was just being old-fashioned about the whole damn thing. "I don't want her thinking I'm using her, when I'm seriously not," he said with a shrug.

"Yeah, Cora's pretty good at knowing her own mind," he agreed, "which is part of what I like about her. But maybe she just wants something familiar," Scott wasn't used to feeling so confused about what was going on. He was overthinking all of it and he knew it but he couldn't help wonder about the whole thing. It was exhausting.

"Maybe I'm an ass man now?" Scott wiggled his eyebrows at Stiles, "though not much change, we all know I'm an asshole," he said with a chuckle.

It was actually nice seeing Stiles take Lydia's hand like that and he hid a small smile of satisfaction. If nothing else was solid in this world these two were. "If we'd gone to the fancy-pants candy store, you'd have been paying for sure," he teased, "but I doubt even Stiles can eat everything here. Though I'm willing to put bets down if you are, so long as you clean up afterwards."

"I think you need to talk to her and tell her how you feel." There was only so much he and Lydia could tell Scott. Mostly it sounded like Scott needed to talk to Cora about stuff and see if they were on the same page or not.

"OR maybe deep down she actually likes you. I don't know why. I mean, look at you," he teased as he gave Scott the once over.

"Okay, we all know you're nowhere near being an asshole, but you are a jackass." He smiled oh so sweetly Scott's way.

"That sounds like a challenge to me! One that I can not turn down."

"He can't just take our advice, even when he knows we're right." Which they were most if not all of the time. "He has to look at it from all of the angles until he realizes we know something about what we're talking about. Then he does it. And apologizes because it works."

Bringing her free hand up to grab Stiles's arm, Lydia pressed closer. "I didn't agree to these terms. I know I'm going to lose if that's the bet."

"Hey, I talk to you guys because you give awesome advice," Scott said looking slightly sheepish. "You should take it as a compliment," he suggested, though he hoped they weren't sick of hearing about his stuff. It helped to hear what they thought and to work out his problems by talking about them. Also Stiles and Lydia were guaranteed to be totally straight with him if he was being a dick, which it was possible he was.

"So you think maybe it's working and I'm overthinking it?" he said as he hefted the shopping bag into a more comfortable position. "I'll talk to her. I'd be better off knowing where she's at than trying to be psychic," Scott said with a nod at Lydia. "Also, I'm an excellent catch," he feigned a glare towards Stiles, "especially my ass!"

He gave a chuckle as Stiles agreed to the candy-challenge and shot a 'sooooorry' grimace Lydia's way. "I'm not entirely sure you're getting a vote now it's been mentioned," Scott told her, "though you're going to be at my place so if it's too messy, I totally understand if you bail." It was as good a counter-proposal as he could offer.

They'd almost arrived back at the Ostrich building and as he approached he held open the door for his friends. "Home, sweet home," Scott said with a shake of his head. "Still can't get over the lobby. This place is fucking weird."

"Maybe we should stop giving it," he jokingly said.

"Yes, that's pretty much it. You're overthinking it all. But mostly that you need to talk to Cora and share all of these things that you're sharing with us." He rolled his eyes and acted like he was going to kick Scott's ass. "Next time it'll be for real," he warned.

His attention went to Lydia when she moved in closer. "How about I promise not to throw up on you?" Not hat he really thought he was going to do that, buuuut he had to put something out there for her.

"Have you ever just stood there and watched them?" It was still weird, yes. He had been in this place longer than Scott and Lydia and he still found the ostriches in the lobby strange.

"Imagine how much worse of a situation he'd be in if we stopped." Not that they would, because he was Scott. "But seriously, Scott. How often does it boil down to 'talk to her'? Maybe that can be your first stop from now on."

Looking up at Stiles, she tilted her head to the side. Not throwing up on her should have been a given, out of human decency if nothing else. "I thought you liked having sex. I will witness this mistake, but I'm not cleaning or offering sympathy when it goes wrong." When. Not if.

"I feel like watching them will lead to biting. I try not to linger."

"Seriously, guys, how often does the phrase 'can we talk?' lead to happy good times?" Scott asked with an amused shake of his head, "but you're right. As usual and please don't withdraw your counseling services or I might go even more crazy than I already am." Which was starting to feel like a lot.

God they were too cute for words, Scott thought as he followed up behind them and, for a brief moment, starred at the ostriches. "You're totally going to puke," he nodded, agreeing with Lydia on that point. "You may not plan to, but you will," Scott said with a grin.

"I've seen those guys on youtube and they do not seem friendly," he said squinting at one of the ostriches. "Bet Malia would totally love hunting one, though. She'd get all the exercise chasing one," he mused as he headed for the elevator. "Maybe we should set them free one day and see how she handles them?"

Stiles thought about Lydia's question for a moment. "You're right. We can't stop. Things would go boom without our input." He laughed. "We don't want to see you lose your mind here."

Stiles gasped. "Does this mean I'm not getting any if I do this?" That's what it sounded like to him. "You're really not going to feel sorry for me, are you?" He fake pouted.

"Let's not do that, huh? I don't want to get struck down by the Entity that brought us here."

"Definitely don't go crazy," Lydia agreed. "This place is the closest thing to normal we've had. ...Most of the time." They had far more good days than bad, and nothing was specifically trying to kill them. Felt pretty good.

"Why would I feel sorry when you're bringing this on yourself? Even Scott knows you're going to throw up." After, he was going to have to brush his teeth several times before she let him kiss her.

Who knew what significance the ostriches held. Stiles was probably right. "There are plenty of other things for Malia to hunt. Let's not go with the mascot of our home."

"With your excellent input, I won't go boom," he promised with a smile. "Yeah," Scott's voice dropped a little at Lydia's comment. "Beacon Hills didn't exactly prepare us well for normal, did it? And the other stuff doesn't seem to last long," and no one had tried to kill them... yet. "Could get used to feeling safe," which was probably going to jinx them all and the moment he'd said it Scott couldn't take it back.

He chuckled to himself as Stiles tried to get Lydia to get all sympathetic. Scott didn't like his chances and nodded when she brought him into it. "You're totally going to puke," he reiterated with an over-played wrinkle of his nose, "and it's going to be all the colours, if you manage to get through all this candy. It's going to be gross and you're never getting any ever again, cause Lydia won't be able to look at you without seeing the puke," Scott said with a nod. Maybe over-stated, but he was so getting denied.

"Fine, the idea sucked," Scott said with a feigned sigh. "I bet Malia and Cora would have been into it," he muttered loud enough for his friends to hear. Oh yes, he was being a jerk, though he didn't want to fuck with the Entity either, if he was serious. "Maybe the ostriches would win? they're fast," he said with a shrug. Yeah. Bad idea was stuck now. Damn!

"Ya think?" he was still waiting for something to come out and attack them. It was coming. They were never that lucky.

"Because...umm...you should just feel for me." Yeah, that was bad. Honestly, he didn't really want sympathy because Lydia was right. This was something that he was brought onto himself. "Scott," he put his hand up and made amotion that pretty much said to shut his trap.

"That's right. That idea sucks," Stiles agreed. "Now let's move on from this bad idea. New topic."

"Safe enough that we can pretty much handle whatever hits us, at least," Lydia amended Scott's sentence. Other than some strangers and that one guy who kept coming back, no one had died here. Unlike at home.

"I feel a lot of things for you, but sorry isn't one of them in this case." Truth be told, Scott was digging himself a hole much faster than Stiles could. But he also didn't have anything to lose. Not that Stiles did either, but she wasn't going to say that.

"Speaking of Malia... do you think she's okay with a whole apartment to herself?"

Scott nodded at Lydia's amendment, which was fair and added one of his own. "Let's just hope it stays that way, huh?" The last thing he wanted was to jinx their time here, it was good. More calm than life in Beacon Hills had ever been.

"Am I allowed to feel disgusted?" he chipped in looking at Stiles, "cause I can totally feel that for you. So it had been his idea and he knew it, but it was the way Stiles jumped in and ran with the ball that was one of his great joys in life. One of the many, many reasons they were friends.

Scott pulled a face at Stiles and gave him a roll of his eyes, before Lydia complied with his demand for a new topic and crunched the gears to a whole new place. "Malia told you that?" he asked with a frown. She hadn't mentioned it to Scott but they always seemed to be missing each other lately. "Think we need to get her out of there?" he asked, curious to know what more Lydia knew.

"I'll probably feel pretty disgusted after the challenge." Honestly, he was starting to wonder if he should just back out of it completely.

"Wait, what?" He quickly looked at Lydia a little confused by what she said. "Malia is living alone? When did that happen?" He really hadn't talked to Malia much since she arrived here, so he had no idea that she had no roommates. "What else don't we know?"
