Who: Stiles and Lydia
Where: Home
When: Aug 18th
What: Trying to figure stuff out.
Status: Incomplete

Since Stiles didn't have to go into the office today, he thought maybe he would update the board that Lydia had gotten for him. Maybe something will come out of it, but right now he wasn't so sure. There weren't enough pieces of the puzzle to put together. But there was enough to put up.

Right smack in the middle of the board was a paper with a giant question mark on it. That represented the Jublient Entity. Nobody knew anything about it and no one has seen it. So, it was a giant question mark. One the left side were dates, estimated times and the weird events that had happened so far. and on the right was a list of everyone that spoke on the network. Under that list was a list of names of people who were reported missing. Nothing connected. Not yet at least. Right now it was just a board full of puzzle pieces that he couldn't make fit. That didn't mean he was just going to walk away now. Nope, he was staring at it like an answer might just pop up if he stared at it hard enough.

"Hey," he said when he heard Lydia enter the living room, eyes never leaving the board.

Stiles glanced down at what Lydia was doing. At first, he couldn't tell, but then it became pretty obvious. She was trying to use the events in a math equation. "It could change. It doesn't mean it'll stay this way," he pointed out.

He sat down on the edge of the bed, glancing between what Lydia was doing and the information that was on the board and now the wall. "You really think something new is going to happen that soon?" He wasn't sure. It seemed like the weird shit happened once a month. If something happened in eight days then that would screw up the current pattern.

It was becoming pretty clear that they were both getting pretty frustrated with their little bit of information. They were guessing out a few things. The rest...it wasn't there. He finally just let himself flop over onto the bed and sighed. "I don't think we're going to find any good answers today," he finally said, sort of admitting defeat for the day.

"The shortest number of days between events was five. The only time it was close to a month was between the earliest known date of being here to the first event... I think we're just so caught up in them when they're happening—or not happening—that the perception of time is heavily distorted." She'd been surprised to see the darkness mapped out to only four days. It seemed to hardly be a blip, compared to how it felt.

Looking over the board for a little bit longer, she finally came to the same conclusion. It was good to keep trying, but right now... Walking closer, she reached out to gently run her fingers through his hair. "Which doesn't mean we won't ever." Given the apparent all-seeing nature of the entity, she wondered if the act of them observing was going to change the outcome of the next event. They couldn't observe without being observed in return, but maybe the entity had better things to do.

"Is this what you did all day?"

"Okay, yeah, you're right. It seems like ever since this place started changing into other cities it's been two things a month and usually not a huge gap between events." Now he was starting to wonder if more things were going to start happening. Instead of two events happening a month maybe they'll get his with three.

"I know," he said, finally looking away from the board, eyes completely on Lydia now. "It's just going to take time." Sooner or later they would figure it out. They normally did.

"No...I did other things," he told her before adding, "but, okay, it might have eaten up most up of my day. Is that bad?"

She really didn't want to think about the frequency increasing. This place by itself was mystery enough, they didn't need terrible things to happen... They were supposed to be past the years of terrible things happening. There was college! And then jobs! And yea, they had the jobs and college here, but she didn't want to the weird things following them to another dimension. Not that their weird things even remotely compared to here. She'd prefer a deadpool to another bout of endless night.

But at least she was here with Stiles and so many other people from home. "Nah, not so bad," she grinned down at him, fingers stilling against his scalp. "As long as you remembered to eat?"

Stiles didn't really want to think anymore. It was all starting to give him a headache. At least Lydia's hand being there felt kind of good even though she wasn't' doing anything. A new topic was definitely needed, though. A new everything was needed right now. "Umm..." he had to think about it for a minute. Had he forgotten to eat? "I ate when I first got up." Whenever that had been. He had no idea what time it was now or how long he had been working on the board. Time just got away from him today. "It's late, isn't it?"

"It's late," she confirmed. Her fingers started moving through his hair again. It was unfair how soft it was—she used all kind of products to try and keep her hair nice and men had it so easy. "We can order something in?" She'd tried once since arriving to make some kind of meal, and she was pretty sure that was all she needed. Somehow, despite being just about ratios and timing and following a plan, cooking was a skill that evaded her. It had been inedible and dangerously close to burning the building down.

"Oops?" He really hadn't meant to spend all of his free time on the board. But it happened. He closed his eyes for a moment and just enjoyed the feel of Lydia's fingers moving through his hair. If she kept it up, he might just end up falling asleep. "Sounds good to me," he said as he opened his eyes and looked up at Lydia again. "Unless you want to make something? I know I don't." He didn't really want to move off of the bed.

He looked peaceful with his eyes shut, and a surge of affection washed through her. Sometimes it almost felt like her heart was trying to leave her body and find his like it belonged there. Like they were tethered, really. She'd been in love before, but this feeling was unique to Stiles. Taking a careful seat at the edge of the bed, she pressed her lips to his forehead.

"Do I want to poison us? Not really. My laptop is in your room, do you want to come with me?"

"You're not that bad..." He smiled up at her. Going to her bedroom meant moving. He still didn't really want to move, but he ended up sitting up. "Yeah, I'm coming with you." He stood up and then held his hand out to Lydia so he could help pull her up from the bed. "So what are we feeling tonight?" He wasn't sure if he wanted pizza. He's had a little too much of that lately.

"Wow you really do love me, don't you?" Grinning, she placed her hand in his and let him help. "It was terrible and we both know it. I am going to have to rely on meal plans at college and then prayer after." Or delivery. Or keep practicing until no one was under threat of dying from her cooking. She slid her arm around his back while she considered the options. Pizza was definitely out. Something where she could get vegetables that weren't drowning in cheese and grease... "What about the poke bowl place?"

"I really, really do." He grinned right back and helped her up once she put her hand in his. "Okay, it was pretty bad," he admitted. "You just need to practice more. That's all. I probably could do with a little more practice too." They couldn't live on fast food forever. He placed his arm around her shoulders and pulled her close and they headed to her bedroom. "Oh yeah. I haven't tried that place out yet. We should definitely get that."

She'd read recipe and technique books and they'd both failed her, which meant maybe it was time for the big guns. "There's probably somewhere around here that does classes we could go to? Or someone in this building, if we don't want to wear communal aprons with a bunch of strangers." Inside the building meant a higher likelihood of being teased for domesticity, but they had to eat somehow!

Putting her order in, she swiveled the laptop toward him to do the same. "You're going to have to stay awake for the thirty minutes it takes to get here, now."

"I'm sure there is." He couldn't see why there wouldn't be cooking classes. "We could. Just, if we do, don't try to burn the place down," he teased. "It could be interesting. We should look into it."

Once the screen was facing him, he started to look through the options and picked the things that sounded good to him. "I guess you'll just have to keep me busy until then." He flashed her a smile and then moved the laptop back towards Lydia once he was done with it.

Narrowing her eyes at him, she lowered her chin. "'Medium-high' is a very imprecise way of measuring heat. How was I supposed to know it was going to burn so quickly?" Classes would help with that sort of thing. She made a mental note to sign them up.

Bending over the laptop, she added her payment information and sent the order off. Turning back toward him, she rested her hip against the desk and crossed her arms under her breasts. "You'd have to go shut the door," she pointed out.

Stiles wanted to laugh but he held it back and instead just smiled at her some more. "You're going to hate cooking," he told her.

He glanced over his shoulder at the door and then back at Lydia. "You don't have to tell me twice." He was already making his way across the room and shutting the door.

"Well, we have to eat." She didn't necessarily feel like she should do all of the cooking, but being able to take turns would be nice...

Lydia admired his backside as he walked away, her head tilting to one side. She took a seat on the desk while she waited for him to complete his first task. "Now you should come back and kiss me."

"I know, I know. We'll learn and now survive on just take out and other simple things." He wasn't worried. He was just having a little bit of fun teasing Lydia, that was all.

"I think you're having too much fun telling me what to do," he said as he slowly made his way back over to her. He had to mess with her a little. Once he reached Lydia, he placed his hands on her knees and moved them apart so he could get as close to her as possible. After that, he leaned in and kissed her.

It was pretty obvious he was right, from the flush on her cheeks to the shallowness of her breath. "I think you like it," she countered quietly, goosebumps dotting her thighs as he spread them. Sighing against his lips, she slid a palm up his chest and around to the back of his head, fingers tangling in his hair to hold him close.
