Entry tags:inactive: princess jasmine

Who: Carol and Jasmine
What: Jasmine's arrival, a meeting between roommates
When: After Jasmine's arrival
Where: Their apartment
Rating: Not very high I'd imagine

It really did rain a lot in this place, didn't it? Jasmine couldn't help but think as she made her way towards the door she had been directed to. She had been assured that this was a good place to live (the jury was out if she believed that to be true or not), but at the moment she had no other choices. Well, she had wanted some more adventures, right?

What she did know was that she wanted out of her wet clothes. Her fine silks, the finest in Agrabah, were not meant to be wet. The fabric was soft, flimsy, and now uncomfortably stuck to her skin. As a kid, she had loved playing in the rain on the rare occasion it rained, but that was another time. The memory made her smile though because it made her think of her mother.

"Hello?" She called out as she walked into the apartment not knowing if she would find this Carol, who was supposed to be her roommate. "Is anyone here?"

Being here wasn't the worst thing that ever happened to Carol and she was trying to settle in as best she could without having many resources at her disposal. She was used to doing whatever she needed to survive, even if it wasn't one hundred percent legal, so there were some basic food stuffs in the kitchen and she some clothes in her room.

She wasn't terribly surprised to hear someone call out. The creepy letter she got upon arrival said that she might end up with a roommate at some point. "Hey," she said, emerging from her room for a proper greeting. "I'm Carol."

When she actually saw the state of her new roommate, she frowned. "We need to get you out of those wet clothes," she said. "We're probably close enough in size that you can borrow something of mine." She could always go out and pick up more things for the other woman later.

Jasmine gave the woman a smile as she nodded. New clothes sounded wonderful if only because they would be dry and warm. If she had chosen where she ended up for an adventure, it would have been in a warmer place. The desert hardly got that cold even in the "winter" months. The hardest part would be getting out of all her layers and corset. Women, there didn't seem like they wore corsets, one plus she was sure she was going to enjoy.

"I'm Prin-" Jasmine gave the woman an awkward smile. Right, here she wasn't a princess of anything. Well, it would be her biggest challenge of all and who knew, perhaps it would teach her more about the struggle of her people. The ones she was supposed to be protecting. "I'm Jasmine, nice to meet you."

Jasmine pulled her hair scarf off and draped it over a chair to dry, "So it really does rain as much as everyone seems to say it does, doesn't it?" She said not knowing what else to say in this situation. She didn't talk to many people outside her handmaiden and other palace help.

Carol noticed that Jasmine stopped herself from saying something else, suspected what that might have been, but didn't acknowledge it in any way. They were all on unfamiliar ground here. "There are some towels in the bathroom," she said, pointing in the direction of the room. "I'll grab clothes."

Mostly what she'd gotten was comfortable casual wear. A couple pairs of jeans, some t-shirts, and a pair of leggings that were somehow not nearly as weird looking as the stirrup pants that were popular in the 80s. She figured the leggings were the safest option and luckily they were clean, so she grabbed those and a plain t-shirt from her drawer.

"Here," she said. "You can use the brush and whatever else." Carol was a pretty basic kind of girl, so she didn't have a lot of beauty products, but there was a hairbrush, some deodorant, and other common toiletries in the bathroom.

She nodded in acknowledgment and went in search of the towels. Once she found them, Jasmine started to untie the braids in her long hair. Carefully, her fingers did their work pulling out braids and her headpiece while her mind attempted to process the day. Earlier she had been walking the streets of Agrabah and then running through the streets, never had she felt so alive. It was so new but familiar. Her city was her own in ways this city wasn't.

However, when Carol came back she stopped and looked at the clothing in her hands forcing a smile. They were so... Dull. They lacked the embroidery and bright colors common back home. "Thank you," she told her roommate accepting the clothes.

After a while, Jasmine came back out dressed in her new clothes. How women moved in such tight pants, she wasn't quite sure. Finding some color was certainly in the cards for tomorrow. Her jewelry would only provide a little pop of color.

"Thank you," she told her roommate with a smile. "So, have you been here long? People do not seem to know a lot about this place."

"Just a few days," Carol said. "Best I can tell, the first people with letters got here a few days before that." Whatever was going on, it seemed to be a relatively new thing.

While Jasmine was in the bathroom, she'd gone to the kitchen and put on the kettle. "Do you like tea?" she asked. "Nothing fancy, just some plain Lipton, but I thought you might want to warm up some."

So no one had been there that long, it was interesting, but didn't change things. Surely they were all wondering why they were there and how they got there. Questions that could be answered at another time Jasmine figure. Right now she had more important things to do like get settled and then tackle bigger problems.

"I love tea," she said content that some things weren't different here. "Have you tried many different kinds of teas? I am rather fond of white teas. Though black teas are great for mornings..."

"I think I want to go for a walk tomorrow. It's safe here I assume?"

Safe was a relative term. "Should be safe enough," Carol said. "Long as you don't go out after dark." This might not exactly be New York, but it was a big city which meant there were no doubt plenty of shady characters around. "Just be aware of your surroundings."

She didn't know what kind of world Jasmine came from, so it was hard to gauge what she might be used to or comfortable with.

Okay, so the rules here weren't much different than at home other than she could go out. Go out without sneaking out anyhow. "I can handle that. Not much different than at home." There were always people that wanted her father's throne and being second in line for it, Jasmine wasn't safe either. Being careful wasn't new to her and here, she was probably safer.

"I got a lesson in all that right before getting here oddly..." She said as she cocked her head to the side. They had been running from vendors who had thought they stole something from them. Truthfully, her companion had stolen something from them...

"Don't suppose you've seen a tiger around?" She asked kind of hoping her tiger had ended up there too, but not expecting it. "Probably wishful thinking to think our pets are here too."

Carol turned from the stove and gave her roommate a curious look. "You have a pet tiger?" she asked. "Definitely have not seen one of those around." And she was fairly certain that if there was a tiger roaming around the streets of a city like this, it would be big news. It raised a lot of questions about where Jasmine was from though.

"If you're concerned about protecting yourself, I can teach you a few things," Carol offered.

Jasmine nodded. Was it really that unusual to have a pet tiger? "His name is Rajah..." Apparently, from the reactions she was getting, people there did not have pet tigers. It was a shame really because her tiger was her best friend. Not to mention, people didn't bother her all that much when you had a tiger to protect you.

"Sure," Jasmine agreed. "Can never know too much, right?"

"I will definitely let you know if I see him," Carol said. Now that she knew a tiger might be her roommate's pet, she wouldn't even blast him. Much. It would be hard not to simply react if she saw a tiger though.

The tea kettle whistled and she filled two mugs with hot water, dunking tea bags into them and carrying them over to the table. "So where exactly are you from?" she asked.

She nodded secretly hoping her pet would magically appear too. How wonderful would that be? Jasmine didn't hold out hope though because this place seemed very particular. "Don't worry, Rajah is friendly to people he likes. I don't think he'd dislike you." She reassured her just in case her pet came walking down the street or something.

"Agrabah!" Jasmine told Carol with a happy smile. "It's in the desert so it's hot! Like all the time." So much unlike their current situation. "There is always some music, spices of every kind are being sold in the street. The clothing is so bright and colorful. It's a vibrant city much like this place perhaps, just in a different way." She paused a moment. "What about you?"

That wasn't a place Carol was familiar with. She supposed that wasn't too much of a surprise though, given that people were apparently here from various universes. "I'm hoping this place will eventually knock off the rain," she said. "But I don't think it'll ever be like the desert." It was too similar to New York for that.

"Sounds like a nice place though," she said. "I... well, I've moved around a lot." Carol knew that she looked much younger than she was thanks to her powers and was hesitant to make a big deal of that. "I was in the Air Force."

Jasmine nodded even though she didn't really know how all of that was. Moving was something she at least knew about in theory. It was probably a hard way to grow up. She didn't move around and her childhood had been hard enough.

"It doesn't seem too bad here, right?"

Carol shook her head. "I don't think so," she said. "I guess time will tell." It wasn't like she trusted who or whatever the jubilant entity was that brought them here. There had to be a reason for it and, in her experience, most things didn't happen for good reasons. Maybe she was overly cynical, but she had reason to be.

"At least we didn't get stuck with terrible roommates," she said. At least she hoped she wouldn't be a terrible roommate. It had been a long, long time she lived with anyone.
