Hawkeye
Daredevil
WHO Kate Bishop & Matt Murdock • WHERE The City -> Medical • WHEN Thursday
As per usual, Hawkeyes make bad decisions with good intentions. WARNINGS Fighting. Injuries. Robot stomping. Maybe some feels. Arrows. Batons.
Okay. This was bad. This was definitely bad.
This looked bad.

Not terrible. Not horrible. Just bad.

Bad was still okay.

Maybe it wasn't.

Something was most certainly sprained. Maybe it was just twisted. She could manage either way, but it would be slow. The robots? They were fast. Faster than Kate had anticipated when she made the decision to get a few items. Supplies weren't low, but it was better to be prepared. If things got worse, if the robots got worse, it would be necessary.

Prior to making her way out, Kate had been responsible. She had left a note in the apartment she shared with Belle and Elsa, promising Belle that she would be fine. She would be back. Kate had left Lucky there to keep an eye on them and others as well.

She had even messaged Matt. Why? Truthfully, Kate still wasn't sure about that. It had been a last minute decision before leaving the building. A literal hard stop at the door after saving an ostrich from a robot and sent the text.

"Getting a few things. Lucky's protecting the royals. Might even bring a PSL back. Hashtag Hero Things. Purple Heart emoji."

The last bit made Kate exceptionally proud of herself. She was getting better at not sending gifs or emoji responses.

What she was not getting better at was bringing back-up. Johnny and Ramone had always gotten on her about it. Clint and the other West Coast Avengers, too. It was a terrible habit, but one Kate found it hard to shake. Back-up or help meant putting others in danger and Kate? She wasn't about that. Protecting others. Keeping them safe. That was what she did, her own safety be damned apparently.

For as small as they were, they packed a nasty punch...blast thing. Her right side was stinging but it was manageable. Maybe the hip holes weren't the best idea regardless of how fashionable they proved to be. Using her bow to get herself to her feet, Kate let out a heavy breath. Adjusting her weight from one foot to the other, testing the proverbial waters, it was okay. Again, manageable.

The robots, the damn tiny terrors, were clamoring about around the corner of the building she'd use to take cover. Kate didn't have to worry about arrows thanks to Ernie. She could slow them down and make it back to the apartment building without too much else, right? ...Right. Of course.

Grabbing three arrows from the quiver, Kate nocked them and pushed herself to practically swing around the corner and fired them off. One sparked and exploded into a mess of metal and robot parts. The second began to bubble and and absorb a group of robots into a sticky foam. The third shorted a few out, but there were plenty stomping about still.

It gave her time, though. She thought so anyway.

If she hadn't had the slight limp and the burning pain in her side, it would have been okay. Kate wouldn't have been punching a robot from jumping onto her shoulder. She also wouldn't have been kicking another from climbing up her leg.

Okay. This was bad. This was definitely bad.

"Hey! It means plenty, thank you very much!" Because it did but everything would have been fine if she hadn't triggered the rest of the robot brood to come knocking.

Or firing. Definitely firing.

One robot went down with an arrow through it's face. Another followed. The third? He was hit, but he was fast, too. Robots were always fast even if they were large and lumbering. The arrow took one arm off, knocking the robot off kilter. It would have been fine if the eye lasers hadn't also gone askew.

Weren't lasers supposed to melt things like metal when it hit? They weren't supposed to ricochet and bounce. Lasers didn't bounce! Most of the time.

"Matt!"

She wanted to shoot out the chain of a sign to deflect the laser. Kate would have been able to if two robots hadn't come down onto her shoulders. It threw Kate off balance, the arrow missing the chain, hitting the sign and was melted by the incoming laser coming toward Kate and Matt.

The thing was, his suit wasn't just about hiding his identity. If that had been the case, he could have just kept running around with his face covered. Or borrowing scarves from friends slash acquaintances slash coworker types? Maybe not that one. No, the suit had been built as protection. Sure, he healed faster than most. But he wasn't invulnerable.

And these little bastards burned.

Even his abilities were being overwhelmed. There were just so many of them and it was hard to keep track of who was where. The only thing he knew for certain was Kate's heart rate was way higher than it should be, which meant she was in serious danger.

"There's too many," he admitted. It wasn't like Matt to give up a fight, but when two trained fighters weren't exactly holding their own, it made more sense to just get out. "We've got to--" They were so small, how had they even gotten him down? Best as he could tell, there were at least six of them at his feet, and now he was on the ground and they were literally swarming.

If he died being taken out by toy robots, that was going to be so embarrassing.
