What: Kate is...not a ninja. Not even when she's invisible.

Steve had made a good point about keeping at least one piece of clothing on in order to see others in some form. It would keep people safe and, more importantly, keep people from getting seriously injured. Mary had made an equally good point about setting broken bones being difficult when you couldn't see them.

They were hard enough to set when you could.

Kate would worry about such things another day, though. Tomorrow, probably, but for now, she wanted to utilize these new powers. Well, power. An ability that she had known people to have and, in her opinion, often wasted.

She was not going to be that person, which was why she was lingering outside of Matt's apartment. Knowing he could hear her, among other things, Kate considered attempting a fake out. Pretending to run down the hallway and then sneak inside. She thought about knocking and ducking into the apartment. It was all to see just how far she could get without alerting too much suspicion, even if the entire thing was already up by now.

Shedding her tee shirt and jeans, Kate stuffed them behind a potted plant in the hallway along with her sneakers. The less layers, the easier it would be to stay quiet, right? Of course. That's always how that worked. Crouching down, she reached up two slowly twist the door handle. She really should have brought the needed items to pick a lock.

Success! Pumping a fist triumphantly into the air, Kate scouted her next point of mischief. The silverware in the drawer? Tapping on a mug or two? Drumming on the counter?

Mess with music?

There was truly a treasure trove of things to use for her ultimate plan. Not for too long, though. Having fun was one thing, but she didn't want to drive the poor guy crazy. It was likely she did that on a routine basis anyway.

Opening and closing a few cabinets and drawers, Kate followed through with drumming on the counter before falling quiet and still again. Briefly. Except for taking an extra step to fully close a cabinet that didn't want to close the first time.

Rude.

He was really, really grateful she couldn't see his face just then because there was no way he couldn't grin. As it was, he was biting his lip in order to not burst out laughing. At some point he realized he didn't hear the rustle of fabric and that meant Kate Bishop was in his apartment naked, or nearly so.

Not how he'd wanted that event to happen but okay.

"My acting isn't good enough for this, Kate." He dropped on to the couch, a few feet away from where she was currently causing chaos. Or attempting to, anyway. "It's not personal. You're just kind of bad at this."

"What?!"

Popping up behind the couch, Kate couldn't help but pout and let out a frustrated sigh. "But I'm invisible! Doesn't that mess with, like, your...other...stuff?" Echo location? Heat signatures? The super cool things that Matt could do!

Rounding the couch, Kate flopped down beside him. "So. Lame. I had it all planned out. There was going to be mysterious wind and jangling chains, but without the chains obviously. More like playing the spoons and trying to make low 'Ooooo!' sounds in a coffee mug for maximum effect."

She gave his arm a light pat, Kate often tapping his arm or touching his shoulder when they were together. A quiet way of letting Matt know she was still there. Even if it wasn't necessary, it made Kate feel better. It was as much reassurance for her as it was for him.

"I put the book away and I didn't actually leave a mess in the kitchen."

Matt couldn't help it. He grinned brightly. Not that she could see it, but hopefully she could hear it in his voice. "You're invisible, not dead. I still have ears, you know. You still have a heartbeat. I can still smell your soap. And honestly? You're really bad at being subtle."

Her efforts weren't entirely wasted. That was the most amused he'd been by anything in a while.

At some point he had noticed the gentle way she confirmed her presence for him. No, she didn't need to. For the reasons he had just given her, he still always knew when she was close by. But it meant a lot that she wanted to help.

"I know you did," he said gently. "And um. Are you seriously prowling around my apartment with no clothes on?" There was no way that wasn't going to be funny. A little concerning. And still not how he'd ever pictured that event. But still. Amusing as hell.

"I know you can hear things. I didn't know how being not here would work. My plans are always foiled by people with cool things." And her lack of actually being stealthy and sneaky. Being good at archery and hand-to-hand combat didn't mean being an actual ninja.

Which was a true shame.

"Huh? Oh! No. I am a lady, Matthew. Sports bra and underwear. And socks. I needed to be able to move without hindrance, but alas!" A dramatic sigh and a wave of her hand, albeit unseen but most certainly not missed.

In a moment of silence, as it fell, Kate considered what Matt could "see". Could sense things that made it her and not someone else. Did he like the smell of her soap? Should she change it? What if he was actually allergic to something in it? What if he hated it and was just being nice?

Suddenly very aware of the fact she was sitting next to him, almost fully undressed, Kate cleared her throat and sat up a bit straighter. "I...should probably go get my clothes from the hallway, huh? Before some weirdo steals them or something?"

Alright. So not naked. Good. That would be weird. But still... Kate Bishop. In his apartment. In her underwear. Yeah, that was going to fuel him for a while.

Which wasn't helped by the silence. It wasn't an uncomfortable silence, exactly, but he could tell she was thinking. "You're sure the weirdo isn't the one who was stripping in the hallway?" His voice was teasing though and he reached out for what he was fairly sure was her arm. "Go get dressed and maybe I'll make dinner. Maybe. Since you did such a good job haunting me and all."

"Good, because I am starving. I was really waiting for my stomach to give me away." She glanced down where his hand would have been no her arm and placed her hand against his. Giving it a gentle squeeze, Kate moved from the couch, across the apartment, and out to the hallway to fetch her clothes.

Only for a frustrated groan to echo through said hallway and Kate to return. It was really her own fault. A bunch of people invisible? Things like this were going to happen given just who was living in the building.

Kate was only slightly disappointed she hadn't been able to pull the prank first. On Steve Rogers.

"...Matt, can I borrow some clothes? Your finest tee shirt and sweatpants so I'm dressed for dinner, please."
