Who: Kate Bishop & Matt Murdock
What: Coffee and cake and chill
Where: Matt's Apartment
When: Wednesday Night
Warnings: TBD

Kate kept a lot of things inside. People often said she talked too much. The reality was that Kate didn't talk enough. At least when it came to herself. She wasn't her favorite subject matter regardless of how she played herself off in front of others. Kate could be genuine, sure, but there was still much to hide.

And hide she did. Deep down and far away from practically anyone and everyone. It wasn't healthy but it was how she managed. Compartmentalizing things and shutting it all away. It was how you survived when you fought other-worldly monsters, crazed demons, and dimwitted henchmen.

The amusement park had not been the best idea in the end. While neither she nor Belle had returned with life-threatening injuries, the mental scarring had been scratched.

Two travel mugs in hand, Kate was sincerely grateful that Matt was open to a visit. Though she had kicked herself a handful of times for her ridiculous and terrible message, Kate couldn't not show her face.

"You know, I'm pretty sure I haven't had coffee cake in, ah, a few years? It's usually Twinkies from the dollar store," she commented, sitting comfortably on the sofa. The apartment was so quiet. Granted, her apartment was usually quiet too, but it seemed noticeably quieter than usual.

Or maybe it was just Kate.

"What are you saying? That I'm a messy eater?" Kate tried to feign even a small hint of offense, but failed. Miserably. She wasn't a complete slob, but for as skilled as she was fighting all sorts of adversaries, Kate was very good at spilling things, too.

Truthfully, when it came to domestic life, Kate wasn't very good at it. Saving the world, others, and being the heroic type suited her much better. It had always been that way, though. Even growing up a soon-to-be heiress, Kate never acclimated to the lifestyle.

It was probably why she stopped getting invited to all the debutant and society events. Someone always went home with a black eye, and it wasn't Kate.

Snorting into her coffee in an attempt to hold back her laugh, Kate seemed to prove Matt's point. Wiping the back of her hand against her mouth, Kate shook her head. "He really is Mr. Captain America Sir, isn't he?" She wiped her hand against her jeans. "He has a point, though. It's not nice out there..."

Returning to her phone, thankfully free of coffee, Kate picked a casual playlist of 'Lo-Fi Beats' and set it aside. "I have no idea about this. Apparently, it's something the youths find relaxing, so, why not?"

"I would never imply something so cold!" he teased right back. "But everyone gets the powdered sugar on them when eating funnel cakes, it's just a fact of life." And it never failed to make him laugh when people tried to pretend it hadn't happened just because he couldn't see them.

Matt grinned and shrugged his shoulders. "He means well. He's not a bad guy. I just think most people already know there's danger in a spooky theme park." And apparently the announcement had come a bit late for some of the residents.

And honestly, he should be out there. If there was trouble to be had, he needed to be in it. It was a very strong part of who he was now. He had tried, twice now, to break away from that part of him. And every time he failed, he failed for a reason.

Now it was his turn to snort, hopefully a bit more elegantly and sans coffee. "The youths? Kate, you're practically still a 'youth'. Don't pretend you're one of us ancient people walking around here." He poked at her phone. "You can set it up to the bluetooth speaker if you want. You're pretty much the only guest around here."
