Tony & Stiles
WHO: Tony Stark & Stiles Stilinski
WHAT: Random Run In = all the fun!
WHERE: Coffee Shop
WHEN: Thursday afternoon
WARNINGS: Maybe some language.
SPOILERS: Eh, is IW still a spoiler? Teen Wolf is off the air. :)

Tony was sick of the damn rain. It was June in New York City for crying out loud. Well, alright, it was June in some NYC replica, but, still, other than a random thunderstorm, there should be humidity and sunshine.

Okay, maybe his mood had less to do with the constant rain and more to do with worrying about things at home, missing Pepper, and wondering what was going on with Peter. The entity was clearly a jokester; why else would it appoint Tony Stark someone’s guardian? He was just barely coming around to the idea of kids in his own reality. Still, Tony was a scientist and solutions to his problems would be found through fact gathering and experimentation. Not only would he figure out how to keep Goodland going for the kid’s sake (and, he guessed, those in similar circumstances), but how to be a proper guardian too. Hannah Abbott graciously agreed to help Tony word his request to the entity, which meant Tony would hopefully have a lab to work in soon, but, for the time being, he sat in a café with books like Teen Speak, Staying Connected to Your Teenager, and How To Cook Everything sprawled across a small table.

“Well, this is a load of bull.” He glared at the page, like it was somehow its fault the author was stupid.

Tony rolled his eyes as the young man proclaimed him stupid, but he chuckled too. If Stiles only knew...

Tony may have been a genius by testing standards, but he was hopeless with emotions and, certainly, teenagers. "Ah," Tony replied, recalling his conversation with Stiles, "Claw! Yes, how are you doing in this crazy little town?" He drank some coffee, which had grown cold since he sat down, but Tony was used to drinking and eating cold items he forgot about while pursuing some project or another.

"Why are you even reading these books?" he asked with another glance down at them.

Ugh, he really was stuck with that nickname. He was hoping that Tony had moved on from that. "I'm...actually doing okay. I kind of wish my roommate would stop being on permanent grump patrol, but other than that it's all been pretty good." It would be even better if people from home could show up to this place so he wouldn't have to deal with this by himself, but he kept that bit to himself. "I take it you're doing pretty well yourself?"

Tony raised his eyebrows as Stiles talked about a grumpy roommate. Tony chatted with a few different people since he arrived in Goodland, but he didn't really have faces to go with names; nor, did he know who everyone was rooming with. "I'm fine," he said. "Just dealing with a teen is all. How old are you, anyway?" He didn't look that old to Tony, but who knew? "What is your grumpy-pants roommate doing anyway?"

"Why are you trying to deal with a teen?" Stiles asked. "Me? I'm nineteen. Why?" He might be nineteen, but he had been through a lot. More than any normal person his age. "Being grumpy. It's like he has a permanent sad face and nothing really seems to break the cycle." He paused for a moment before adding, "I guess anyone wouldn't be happy if their hands weren't healing. That has got to suck."

"I'm his guardian here," Tony explained. "And, well, you only looked a few years older. No offense intended, Stiles." He inclined his head slightly to show he meant his apology. "Thought maybe you'd have a few pointers for me," he teased. He finished off his cold coffee as Stiles explained his roommate's predicament. "He is working on it though, yeah? Getting his hands healed?" He shot him a small smile. "Although, I get you. I wouldn't want to live with a grump either." Of course, Tony could be the grump depending on the circumstances, but no one needed to know that.

"Oh. Well, that makes sense." Stiles shrugged it off. "No offense taken." Stiles took another sip of his drink. "Hey, I could have pointers. I kind of had to grow up fast with everything I had to deal with back at home," he told Stark. Just because he was nineteen didn't mean he couldn't help. If Stark wanted it. "Yeah, I think he is. I have no real idea." They were still getting to know one another, so it wasn't like Cisco was telling him everything just yet. "I hope he cheers up sooner rather than later or I might have to do something drastic," he said half kidding.

Tony, interested, cocked his head when Stiles mentioned growing up fast. Perhaps it was Tony remembering what his father wanted from him or the fact his intellect made it difficult for him to relate to people when he was a kid, but he hated hearing that from other people. Kids deserved to be kids. "Oh?" He asked. "Tell me, what's life like back where you are from, Stiles?"

Stiles knew he would have to explain himself when he said what he had said. Not that he didn't want to. It wasn't like he was keeping anything a secret. he had pretty much been talking opening on the network about what had seen and dealt with back at home, so this was no different. "Life back in Beacon Hills is pretty crazy. Not only did we have to deal with high school, but we had to deal with werewolves and other supernatural creatures. And becuase that wasn't enough, we had to deal with hunters too. Most of them are psychotic. I've been possesed. Some of us have almost died. Our parents have almost died. And one of our friends died. So, yeah, home was not that simple."

If Tony never saw aliens in his reality and if he was never in Goodland, he may have doubted tales about werewolves and supernatural creatures. But now? Tony only shook his head. "Rough," he answered, "Possessed? Don't tell me your head spun around like in that old movie." However, his eyes grew dark when he added, "I'm sorry about your friend, Stiles."

Stiles laughed a little. "No, I didn't have my head spin around and spit out pea soup. It was a dark fox spirit that possessed me." He glanced down for a moment, a tiny bubble of guilt popped up from talking about the Nogitusne and Allison dying since they were both linked. "Thanks," he said before looking up again. "So, what exactly were you hoping to find in those books?" he asked as he took a quick glance down at the books that had been pushed to the side.

Tony took that as a hint that Stiles probably didn't want to continue talking about the dark things from his home. Tony couldn't blame him; he wasn't chomping at the bit to discuss everything from his reality either.

He glanced down at the momentarily forgotten books and groaned, but his face showed he was amused he fell into the trap of self-help material. "How to talk to a teen girl who seems to hate you," Tony replied. "How to relate to a kid you care about from home and now have guardianship of..." He laughed and winked. "You know the same thing every parent goes through."

Stiles was glad that Tony didn't feel the need to push or continue the conversation. He was happy to let it go and move on to the next thing.

"Why does she hate you?" he asked, wondering why anyone would hate this guy. He seemed nice enough. "Right." He said in between sips of his drink. "All I can say is be there for them whenever they need you. There really isn't anything else to do." Tony can take that advice or not. But it was all Stiles had.

Tony shrugged. He had no short list of people who despised him, but he was pretty sure he didn't do anything to Michelle. Then again, he didn't know why that woman he ran into after the MIT talk hated him until she shoved that photograph in his face either. "Probably any number of reasons," he told Stiles, but didn't expand the subject.

He nodded at what Stiles said. "Yeah, the one thing I can do," he agreed, thinking about this father and mother, who, for differing reasons, rarely had time with Tony. "What is your family like if you don't mind me asking?"

"Ask her?" Stiles asked. It seemed like whatever was going on wasn't going to go away unless he asked.

"See, you're already doing a good job," he said with a smile. "My family is basically just me and my dad. My mom died when I was a kid. So, it's basically just been me and my dad looking out for one another." He took a sip of his drink before continuing on. "I didn't always tell my dad the things that were going on at first. But I always ended up sharing at some point."

Tony figured Michelle wasn't too inclined to tell him much about herself, but he guessed he could act like an adult and at least ask. Maybe Stiles was right; maybe her feelings would come out eventually. Tony just didn't want to push much when he didn't know her well.

"That's nice, Stiles," he said. "You trusting your dad, looking out for him. I'm sorry about your mom though. My parents..." He cleared his throat. "They passed away in an accident when I was 21. I know it is rough. Glad you had your dad."

"He's all I have," Stiles said. It was why he was determined to make sure his dad lived a very long life. Even if that meant buying him stuff that was good for him to eat and not greasy burgers and french fries. What Tony said next kind of surprised him. He wasn't used to someone else having parents who died. He usually got an aww, I'm sorry for your loss type of thing and then they'd move on from the subject. "That sucks. I'm sorry." At least he still had his dad. Tony had lost both his parents. "At least you had all that time with them." Definitely a lot more than the time he had with his mom. "Yeah, same. I don't know what I would do with out him in my life." Of course, he was about ot find out seeing as he was stuck in this weird universe and his dad was nowhere to be found.

Tony busied himself with wiping crumbs from the table. Why had he mentioned his parents? He wasn't about to mention how little time he actually had with them, especially his dad, thanks to their respective jobs and lives. Heck, Tony had been sent to boarding school early on and then right to MIT. "I hope he'll come here then," Tony said. It dawned on him that, possibly, his own parents would arrive and he was unsure he wanted that at all. But the kid obviously loved his dad so Tony thought he should have him.

Welp, Stiles knew when someone didn't want to talk about a certain thing anymore and Tony's body language told him they weren't going to do dead parent talk anymore. Which was fine by him. "Yeah, me too." If not, Stiles will just have to deal with this on his own.

He glanced outside and noticed the rain had lightened up and he was pretty much done with his drink, so it was time to go. He stood up, grabbing the now empty plastic cup. "I'm going to go explore some more," he said. "It was nice to meet you in person, Tony. Good luck with," he waved around to all the books, "all of that."
