WHO: Valkyrie [Narrative, but open if anyone wants, but not necessary]
WHERE: The rooftop gardens
WHEN: Evening
WARNINGS: Val is her own warning? but mostly language.

Valkyrie was feeling out of sorts and that actually kind of pissed her off. She hated feeling out of sorts, and she had been facing down far too many feelings in one week than she'd done in one lifetime. That got under her skin too. She really, really hated it. But not at the same time? Things she'd wanted for centuries were coming back to her.

So why was she so angry about it?

Besides her default state of mind being angry, that is. She had spent the last few hours training, and now she had wandered up to the gardens. She had come back to the tower and skipped seeing anyone and everyone, merely headed up to the top and found a place to sit. Legs folded criss-cross style, back ramrod straight. Her hair was in boxbraids still but twisted up into a neat bun to keep them out of the way.

Everything started with family, and sometimes, family was the best and hardest thing to have. Hers was all 'adopted' and she loved them fiercely. But for someone who had gone a very, very long time without family? it was also hard to handle. They were wild, and crazy, dysfunctional and diverse. It wasn't bad, it just was, different. She draped her hands over her knees and closed her eyes. There had to be something under everything that was uniquely her, wasn't there?

A hint of something? Sifting through a millennia of alcohol hazed memories was no picnic, and by the time she was done, she was sweating with the effort. And she'd gotten nowhere fast, and that just made her angrier. Why couldn't she remember anything? What was the point? She rolled her shoulder.

She'd sworn an oath to Odin, and she couldn't remember anything before that day. Then, Hela laid her and hers to waste, and she couldn't even remember how she had survived. But she had. She'd faced her down twice and survived both. That had to mean something, right? Something under it all.

Valkyrie was also having a hard time grappling with emotions, period. She was elated to see Loki back - if anyone understood how feeling burned by Odin felt, it was him. And Thor was a complicated knot of emotions. Steve was growing on her - but in a way she also side eyed him a lot. Too observant for his own good, damn you Steve.

Trying to sit with her feelings on Thor was hard - she'd learned a lot more than she'd known this week, but it didn't change anything. It only made her feel like they were all bearing the same marks - self-loathing, anger, moments of pride that were arrogance in disguise. Thor's words had only confirmed the cycle she'd seen - Odin had been much like that at one time, Hela was too. It seemed that line had to go through those cycles to get further. Even Loki was not immune.

But was she? the more she thought about it, she was not. Her issues of the similar ilk just didn't happen in Asgard. They'd all happened on Sakaar - which hadn't been the best of life either.

She sighed and ran a hand over her face, she didn't regret anything with Thor but she was wishing she was like her previous self - angry and half drunk - because feelings were hard and she kind of hated them.

The gardens had never exactly been abandoned since Storm had arrived in Goodland, but she couldn't help but feel the announcement that the woman who'd set them up to begin with had returned represented a strange sort of loss, as though her ownership took something away from those who'd been taking care of it in the meantime. It was ridiculous, really, and she doubted anyone else she'd seen up there before would have said the same thing, but still every time she came up to the roof and didn't see an unfamiliar witch she felt a guilty twinge of relief. Probably she just missed having her own. She'd been spoiled, especially in Wakanda, and now she was left with two public gardens she had almost no control over and the potted plants she'd collected in her room.

One thing was certain, there wasn't anything that needed doing here tonight. She moved slowly through the rows, looking out for any signs of ill health, but as the day cooled they were even recovering from the usual heat-related wilting that tended to show up during the afternoon. Almost without thinking, she pulled a bit more of a breeze over, letting the air shift leaves and flowers around. It caught her hair a bit, too, and for a moment she was too busy sweeping it back out of her face to realise she was coming up on someone. "Sorry." The breeze disappeared as suddenly as it had arrived. "I like to make sure they get air movement, but I usually do it when no one's here."

"Oh you don't need to stop on my account. The breeze felt nice, reminded me of one of my homes, if we are being honest. " her smile was soft enough. She was still feeling uneasy.but the woman's arrival drew her out of her introspective moment.

"I do love the gardens. If you need their peace, I can move on"

The breeze returned, Storm showing as little effort through it as though it was nothing at all. When you could call up a hurricane it almost was. She had had her powers for twenty five years, after all - a blink of an eye to an Asgardian, she knew, but most of her life for her.

She smiled a little at the offer. "I'm fine. You look like you could use it, though." Maybe it was just how Valkyrie always looked - she didn't know this one, was really most familiar with Dani of all the little-v valkyries, but she knew enough to respect them as great warriors, something like the Dora Milaje for near-immortals.

The Valkyrie gifted her with a smile, a real one, rare from her lips. She was not a well settled person, anger came easier, rested easier on her face. She soaked up the breeze, thinking of New Asgard.

"That is, more or less, my default look." She said, amused, looking up again at the woman, "peace doesn't come easy, and it is nice to find a tiny bit of it here." She didn't seem to mind, though, she knew she looked angry almost all the time.

It seemed she at least wasn't opposed to company, and Storm relaxed a little; she got on well enough with Daisy and there were always the other X-Men, but she hadn't made so many other friends here despite the-- seven? eight months it had been since she'd arrived? "It's certainly different from home," she agreed - though she knew well enough how easy it was to carry the chaos with you. She spent probably more time than people realised maintaining her sense of calm, keeping her emotions in check so as to keep them from spilling out where they might have too much of an affect on the world.

She was trying to be a little less abrasive if she didn't have to be. She didn't need to make a hundred friends, but being pleasant wasn't a bad thing either. It was trial and error.

"Where are my manners?" Val was racking up reasons she was doing the whole queen thing her way: she was absolute crap at manners. "I'm Valkyrie." Despite Thor wanting to use her name more, she had a hard time letting go of Valkyrie.

If anyone could understand the use of a moniker it was going to be a mutant. Storm was well-known, one of the most well-known, and she'd lost count of the number of times she'd tried to explain that both names truly felt as much a part of her as each other. "Storm." She'd found herself leaning towards that one here out of pure convenience, knowing it was easier for the English monolinguists among them. "I believe we're from related timelines. Thor's become quite the fixture at home." Not to mention her own ties to Asgard, as distant as they were by now.

She laughed softly, "He makes himself a fixture wherever he goes. I think that's his way of things. Loki can find a way to blend in, if he chooses and Thor just makes himself at home instead." There was fondness for both in her voice.

She unfurled a bit to sit more comfortably, she wasn't going back to thinking now (she did not mind). "I have discovered Asgard, and her people, touch a lot of timeliness."

"It certainly does. Though Loki at least seems to be less hated at home." For all that she hardly had the best history with him, she'd been surprised at the volume of vitriol his arrival had drawn. No one she knew was foolish enough to trust him, but you couldn't deny that his craftiness tended more towards generalised chaos than consistent awfulness. She would gladly take him over many others, past manipulations and all.

Since she seemed to be welcome enough she sat, not wanting Valkyrie to have to look up at her - the difference between standing and sitting was significant enough as it was without the added impact of her height. "I think Logan's was the only variation of ours that didn't seem to have an Asgard."

"At least in my eyes, he's redeemed himself for much of his trouble. There aren't enough of us for me to allow my people to hate him anymore, either." She truly understood the trickster, and tried to ensure the remaining people knew what he'd done for them. She could do nothing for everyone else.

"And who knows, we may just be minding our own business in his variation." A half rooms as she looked over to her. "It has been fascinating to see the differences."

Storm might not have known all the details of what had happened in that other timeline, but she was well aware of the impact it had had on those who had lived through it, and she nodded in sympathy with the sentiment. "Mutants can be much the same. We might not always get along--" Goddess knew she and Emma would never be bosom friends, though she would have once said the same about Emma and Kitty; "--but we're still family. We've all made too many mistakes not to forgive each other when we can."

That was a sentiment she could agree with. "It has. Though it's a bit of a shock to see a world where we don't exist despite the other similarities."

"Exactly. There aren't enough of my people left to waste on past behaviors that are attoned for already." She was well aware she was being hypocritical - she didn't forgive herself for any of her mistakes. The list was too long. She could forgive others but never herself.

"It is, isn't it?" She shook her head, "I'm not sure I'll ever get used to it. But it has been good to see, too."

It wasn't the first time it had struck Storm how similar Asgardians and mutants could be, in some regards, though the institutional monarchy was more of an Inhuman thing. Perhaps it made sense that Loki had chosen one of them for an attempt on the throne, or for Dani to be chosen as a valkyrie. It was hardly encouraging that both people had been brought low so many times, though, even if they'd begun to recover by her point in time.

"It gives perspective. Perspective of what, I'm not always sure, but still." Perhaps that they were not as important as they might think, which was... humbling, if nothing else.

Sometimes she wondered who was the more screwed up one between the two: herself or Loki. The answer really depended on the day, and which version of their stories they were telling. Her time on Sakaar had done her a lot of damage.

"It reminds me just how small I really am. Oh, we're an arrogant bunch, and I worked for one of the most war hungry men I have ever met, but even I am slightly humbled by this place. Maybe humbled isn't the right word but I think you understand."
