WHO: Hayley Marshall-Kenner and Hope Mikaelson
WHERE: Hope's apartment
WHEN: The morning after finding out Landon was sent home
WARNINGS: TBD
SPOILERS? None

Hayley knew Hope had spent the night with the twins, no doubt drowning her sorrows in greasy food and ice cream in an attempt to numb the pain caused by Landon's departure. However, Hayley was determined to see her daughter the next day, especially after finding out that Hope's father, Klaus, had been sent home too. It would be a double blow to her daughter and Hayley knew she had to be the one to tell Hope that her father was gone too. She needed to be there for Hope, like Hope had been there to tell her about everything that had happened back home. Her daughter needed her and there was no one and nothing that could stop Hayley from getting to her.

She did head to Hope's until later in the morning, figuring her daughter had stayed up late and would need all the sleep she could get (if she managed to get any at all). Hayley arrived, bringing fresh coffee with her, and took a deep breath before knocking on her daughter's door. There was always the chance that Hope would not open the door for her and Hayley would not blame her if she didn't. She was in a lot of emotional pain right now. Still, Hayley was going to try even if her daughter did turn her down.

As far as Hayley knew, no one else had left. If any of Hope’s friends she had made here had left, Hayley was unaware. She was still new and hadn’t been introduced to everyone Hope knew here. She hoped no one else had disappeared; Hope had enough to deal with losing Landon and Klaus. Her daughter didn’t deserve anymore.

Hayley did smile at the statement. “At least I’m good at something. And it happens to be the most important thing.” God, she loved Hope so much. Even if she was all grown up, Hayley would always feel the need to protect her and yes, take care of her…as much as Hope would allow. After all, Hayley also knew Hope could handle herself too and that made her heart swell with pride. Her daughter was amazing. Hayley felt lucky to be Hope’s mom.

“No one else that I know of. I hope no one you befriended here has left though. I know you have a lot of friends here.”

She wasn't going to let that statement stand, not after everything she knew Hayley had done. "You're good at a lot of things. I mean, some of those things aren't here... but you were—are—still good at them." She couldn't keep the peace in New Orleans if there was no New Orleans, and hardly any factions of witches, vampires, or wolves, but it had still been a thing she was good at.

"I know it's kind of cowardly, but I don't think I can look through the network to find out if anyone else I know has left. Not right now." Maybe it was a good thing Hayley hadn't had much of a chance to meet her friends. Her heart felt broken enough with the lost potential of having her dad around, and the loss of comfort and happiness Landon provided.

Hayley smiled at her daughter. Without those things, like keeping the peace between fractions, Hayley felt somewhat at a loss as to what to do with herself. With the Mikaelson fortune here, it wasn't as if she needed to obtain employment either. Obviously, Hayley was grateful for the second chance with Hope and Elijah, but there was a part of her that wanted to find a place for herself here too. A place like she had in New Orleans.

"Thanks, Hope," Hayley replied, squeezing her daughter's shoulder. "I hope I can find something here for myself like that. A way to help." It was a goal at least.

Hayley understood. Her daughter wasn't ready to know, not after losing Landon and Klaus at the same time. She needed time. "It's okay, Hope. You have a lot to deal with right now."

Scooting back on the bed, she drew her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs. "Weird stuff happens here, sometimes really bad things, like Mikael, sometimes just weird. Sometimes good. There's usually some way to help when the bad or weird things happen." She'd made a promise not to put herself between the bad things and the people she loved to someone who wasn't here anymore, so did she still have to keep it? She wasn't sure.

"You could maybe find a way to help people who show up here, too? Get them settled? So it's not just during the really shitty times."

Hayley felt that suggestion was a good one. She could help people when they arrived and when bad things happened. Maybe beside her own daughter even. "That's a good idea, Hope," Hayley replied. "I could help people when they first arrive and if things end up badly."

Hayley held out one of the coffees to her daughter. "Thank you for that suggestion."

Taking the coffee, she held it in both hands to draw in more of the warmth. "'Course. I've been here... a year now, actually. I missed my anniversary... Anyway, it's easier to see that stuff the longer you've been here." She didn't have quite the same personality traits that made her mom really good at that stuff, but she thought Hayley would be really good at it.

“It’s something I will consider then.” She knew the longer she was here, the easier it would become to handle the weirdness that happened here. She didn’t think she would ever get use to the possibility of losing the people she cared about though…or the idea of Hope losing her. That bothered her more than anything. She knew Hope would be okay, but it was the mother in her that never wanted to leave her daughter alone to face the world…no matter how old her was or how much Hayley knew she was capable of handling herself.

“And in the meantime, you and I can spend some mother-daughter time as much as we can.” She reached out and squeezed her daughter’s shoulder. “It’ll be okay. I know you’re strong, but it’s okay to lean on me once and a while. It’s why I’m here.”
