Landon had known that Hope was upset with him, and he really couldn't blame her. He wasn't sure why he hadn't told her those things...maybe he just wanted to forget about all the weirdness that was going on back in Mystic Falls and just enjoy the much more peaceful life here. Or maybe...aw, who knew? He'd made a mistake and he was going to do everything in his power to fix things with her.

He was glad that she'd invited him to breakfast, just the two of them. Even if things weren't completely fixed between them, they could talk, and maybe get on the road to her forgiving him. Or not. He'd just take things slowly and let her lead the way.

At seven, he was dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, ready for her to arrive. He kept clasping and unclasping his hands, more nervous about this than he was willing to admit.

Yesterday had been an overwhelming mess of a day, and Hope was still feeling that as morning rolled around. After the party, she'd taken her newly-not-dead uncle for dinner, catching up with him for hours over pizza and beer. Tossing and turning for a few hours in her new room, she'd given up on sleep and gone for a long run before washing up and heading upstairs to meet Landon right on time.

Her hair was still damp when she knocked on the door to the apartment, taking a step back and crossing her arms over her midsection to hide the fact that her hands were shaking. She'd pushed her mind, heart, and body through a lot in the last 24 hours; it was exhausting and wasn't even close to being over.

When Landon opened the door and saw Hope, he immediately pushed from his mind anything except how terrible she looked. She looked exhausted and stressed and his heart ached for her.

"Hey," he said softly, stepping out into the hallway and closing the door behind her. He wanted nothing more than to pull her into his arms and comfort her, but he resisted because he wasn't sure she'd want that.

"You doing okay?"

It was somewhere around mile three that the whole thing had broken open for Hope. He'd kept his secret because, for whatever reason, he didn't trust her. Her, or her reaction, and either way that made it her fault. And now he was trying to comfort her, which just made her feel worse.

"Landon, I'm so sorry." Emotions were bubbling right at the top of her voice, and she hoped he could tell how much she meant it.

That wasn't it at all. He trusted her more than he'd ever trusted anyone but Rafael, and he really wasn't sure why he hadn't told her. He just...hadn't thought about it. He'd been stupid and he definitely hadn't thought it would blow up like this.

When she apologized, he couldn't help himself. He stepped towards her and pulled her into a hug. He hoped she wouldn't freak out at him but she seemed like she needed it.

"Why in the world are you sorry? You have nothing to be sorry for."

She felt safe in his arms, and even if she didn't feel particularly deserving of that at the moment she burrowed in anyway. Blame yesterday's events or the lack of sleep, but she just really needed this right now.

"You couldn't tell me because you thought I'd freak out and then I freaked out just like you thought when I should have handled it better."

"Hey," he said softly, holding her tightly, glad that she seemed like she needed the hug as much as he did. "That's not it at all. I just..." He paused. "It was more like you not knowing things that I did was weird and I kind of forgot. I mean...in my mind, we know all the same things, you know?"

He sighed, not letting go.

"I'm sorry."

Tucking herself under his chin, she could feel some of her anxiety leave her body the longer the hug went on. "It was always painfully obvious to me that the four of you knew way more than I did. Like you all shared this thing I couldn't be a part of and I was constantly missing some insider reference..." That was why it had hurt so much. She'd been on the outside, again, after all her hard work.

Landon could understand why she felt that way, and he felt terrible about it. He had never meant to exclude her when he talked to Lizzie, Josie and the others, but he could see how it had felt that way to her.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. But hey, you know more than me now, so it can never happen again. I'm a big idiot sometimes, and I promise that's all this was. Just me being a big idiot."

"You're not an idiot, okay?" Lifting her head, she pressed a kiss to the underside of his jaw, bringing a hand up to comb through the short curls at the base of his neck before closing her eyes. They'd make it to the diner—no one had better waffles—she just needed to rest here for a second first.

"It's just really too bad you haven't figured out how to fly on purpose. I've really liked it here. And the one time we kind of did at home..."

He shivered when she kissed him, he just couldn't help himself. His feelings for her were so strong, and he'd never understand what he'd done to deserve to be with her. She deserved so much better.

"Yeah...that time," he actually blushed a little. "Well, kissing you makes me feel that way."

His smile, he hoped, proved to her that there was absolutely nothing wrong at all. Quite the opposite, actually. He quickly kissed her forehead, not wanting to push it too far, but feeling the need to do at least that.

"Then we should conduct our...research outside. In the park, maybe?"

Okay, maybe things were finally starting to look up. Trailing her hand down his arm, she laced her fingers with his and tugged gently toward the elevators. "Are we conducting this research before or after waffles?" She could see the pros and cons of each choice right now, so it was up to him to decide.

"After waffles, definitely. I need energy for flying stuff."

And he was a teenage boy with an appetite to match. He met her eyes, his own full of what he felt for her.

"At least, I think I do. I don't really know, since I've only done it twice. Tandy said I should start jumping off of skyscrapers, but I think this way would be way more fun."

Leaning her back against the railing in the elevator, a lump rose up in her throat as she studied him. Yea, she'd been base jumping here, but that was different. "Please don't jump off a building. We'll try this method, then I'll get shot like Dorian, then you can try jumping."

“Nope,” he said quickly, shaking his head. “Nope, no way. You are not getting shot ever. Me jumping off skyscrapers comes waaaaay before that. I might splat, sure, but I’ll come back.”

Of course, nobody really knew how many times a Phoenix could be reborn. It didn’t seem to be limited, but really, who knew? It wasn’t like there were other phoenixes around to teach him this stuff. It was frustrating.

“But today? Today we’re going to stuff ourselves with waffles and try this the fun way.”

"Unlike Mr. Williams, I'd heal, but it's still upsetting, right? That's how I feel about you jumping off of buildings." It was both comforting and not that she'd feel just as anxious back home about him dying, a montage of each time she had to look forward to playing in her mind.

Shaking it off, she pushed away from the wall and stood up straight. "How about we completely shelve plans B and C and stick with A for a while. At least until it stops being fun." It was obvious from the look on her face that she didn't see that happening for a long time, if ever.

“Fine,” he agreed. “I don’t jump off buildings and you don’t get shot.” Why did he always find himself saying weird things like that? And to think, he’d once thought he and his life were normal.

“Option A is the best one, and sorry, but I don’t think it’s ever going to get old. Ever.”

He honestly thought he could kiss her for the rest of his long life and die a happy man.

Maybe it was the exhaustion or maybe it was just that the idea of it all was so ridiculous, but she couldn't help the laugh that bubbled out of her, eyes crinkling up as she grinned over at him. "Are you? Are you really sorry?" The giggles had a hold of her now, and she couldn't stop them if she tried.

Her laughter was infectious and he couldn’t help but start laughing too.

“No, I’m not,” he said, taking a deep breath. “I’m not sorry at all. Kissing you is awesome and if it helps me fly then that makes it even more awesome.”

He was glad to see her happy again. She deserved it.

"Yea?" Biting her lower lip to try and stop herself from laughing, she tilted her head, eyes dancing. "Even if my uncle tries to kill you?" He wouldn't, of course. Not when it was Landon that made her so happy. He might posture, but she'd been without parental-type supervision for long enough that she wasn't going to let him keep her from what she wanted.

Landon paled just a little at that, but then very valiantly tried to laugh it off. After all, this conversation had certainly put him in a very good mood. “Nah, why should I be afraid of one of the most powerful vampires like, ever? I mean, I’ll just use my crazy awesome Phoenix powers against him,”

And die, if Elijah Mikaelson decides to kill him. He really didn’t think he would, though. The one time he’d actually met Elijah, he’d been really nice and left him a pretty awesome tip.

It was pretty obvious when he was putting up a front, and she reached out to lay her hand on his arm. "Landon. You don't actually have to worry about him. For one, I could take him down. For another, he was the one that took me to the high school to take care of Connor's car. He told me himself last night that he likes you."

“He did?” He was a little surprised by that. Elijah had been all civility when he’d talked to him on the network, except for that one almost-threat. But he hadn’t been sure that he’d actually liked him. “I mean, as long as I don’t upset you or hurt you,” he clarified. “I’m not ever going to do that, though, if I can help it.”

He took her hand and squeezed it.

"I know you don't mean to," she murmured. That didn't mean it didn't happen, clearly. And as much as she tried to keep in mind that his intentions were different, it didn't stop things from hurting. Even still, she could handle herself. She'd hope her uncle knew that and would let them figure this whole thing out themselves without much interference.

"Are you going to come see my new apartment after the park?" Bonnie had given her some sleeping potions, but she'd like to try other methods first.

Landon looked down. He should have spoken more carefully. He had hurt her, whether he'd meant to or not, and he hated that. "I'm sorry," he said again, because it seemed the best and truest thing to say. "About...you know. Everything. Being an idiot and not telling you."

He raised an eyebrow when she asked if he was coming to her apartment.

"I mean, do you want me to?"

"I know that, too," she looked up from their hands and gave him a small, sad smile. "We're going to move past it, okay? New mistakes next time."

She couldn't pretend to know why he hadn't asked for his own yet, but she'd be damned if she was going back to the kids' floor for any extended period of time now. "Yea. Unless you don't?"

And he squeezed her hand again.

"I mean, yeah, I do. I'd love to see your new apartment."

He'd loved the time they'd spent together before she'd moved out, but he completely understood why she had. He needed to, too, really.

"I know I'm 18 now—too old and too young to be planning naps—but after waffles and last night... " She could definitely see herself needing one once they'd concluded their research.

The idea prompted a question to rise to the tip of her tongue, one she'd been curious about since the info dump, but she bit it back, flashing another quick smile.

He looked like she wanted to say something for a moment, but then she didn't, and he bumped his shoulder against hers lightly.

"I didn't really sleep with everything that happened..." she admitted, shrugging. It had been eventful.

Catching her lower lip between her teeth, she tried to think of a better way to phrase it. There really wasn't one, though, so she just made a face and blurted it out. "Is there something wrong with me? It's just- the first thing anyone who knew who I was said was that you and Josie were about to have sex. Not that it's some end all, be all, but... if it's me, I'd like to know. I haven't dated many people so I wouldn't..."

"What?" He swallowed, his cheeks burning. "We didn't. Me and Josie. We...were going to, but it never happened."

Listening to her words, thinking it was about her...well, it caused his heart to ache and he hated that she was thinking that.

"No! It has nothing to do with you. I mean...I don't know why we haven't. I guess I just thought...you know, that you weren't ready or something." He ran a hand through his hair. "I mean, I want to, of course I want to. I just...didn't know if you did and I didn't want to push anything. I feel lucky enough just to be with you, you know?"

Of course, what else did she expect him to say, but it seemed like there was some truth to it at the same time. Or maybe it was just what she wanted to hear. "I don't know if I'm ready either. I mean, how do you know if you're ready to do something you've never done before?" Usually, she didn't even question it, just jumped right in with both feet. But this was different.

"But I do know that when it happens, I want it to be with you." Now it was her turn to blush. "There's no one else I'd trust the same. So. Um. That's that."

"I don't know? I mean...I've never done it before either soooo..." He let the word trail off, then squeezed her hand tightly.

"I want it to happen. I really want it to happen. And I want it to be with you, too. I've never felt for anyone like I feel for you." Not even Josie. The only reason he'd had feelings for her had been because Hope had been torn from his heart and left a big empty space that needed filling. As soon as he remembered her...well, maybe he hadn't been as obvious and obnoxious as SimuLandon but he felt the same way. He loved Hope. He felt like he'd been put on this earth to be with Hope. And there would never be anyone else who moved him like she did.

"So all you have to do is say the word, okay? Because I definitely want to."

"I don't want to put pressure on it. But now we both know where we are... Maybe we can just... let it happen? Test the waters until it feels right?" She wished she had her mom or any of her aunts here to help. Even just to talk to, because she could easily imagine any of them saying she'd just know when she was ready.

Slowly, she stroked her thumb over his knuckles, tempted to watch that instead of meeting his eyes. "I love you so much. I want to share everything with you. And I want you to be happy. I want both of us to be happy."

"So do I. And I am happy. Okay? I am happy. You make me happy. I'm crazy about you and I want to, you know, have sex with you, but I'm happy just being with you like this, too. So your idea? I think it's good. Let's just...let it happen. When the time's right, we'll know. I hope."

He'd never really had anyone but Rafael to talk about things like this with, but now he had Hope. And they could talk about it, couldn't they? After all, they shouldn't do it if they couldn't even talk about it.

"I can go to a pharmacy and get some stuff so we're prepared. And then...whenever it happens, it happens."

He looked down at their hands, then looked over and met her eyes. "And no more secrets from me. I promise. From now on, everything I know, you know too."

"You don't have to go alone. Unless that would make things weird if I came with you..." She saw it as a responsibility they both had, besides, they were adults now, right? In a committed relationship. Buying stuff wasn't weird.

Sometimes the love she had for him felt like crashing waves, rising up and taking her over out of nowhere whenever he was so perfectly... Landon. Fighting a smile, she stepped closer. "I'm going to kiss you now," she murmured before making good on her word, her free hand rising up to hold his face. They might not have been at the park yet, but what could she say? She was a rule breaker.

"I mean yeah, sure, you can come with me." If it was weird to buy condoms together then they probably shouldn't be having sex. "I don't think it would make things weird. I mean, it shouldn't be weird, right?"

He blushed and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to him as he returned her kiss with every bit as much love as she'd put into it. There wasn't any flying yet...but maybe that was because he knew in the back of his mind that he'd rather be in the park than on the street for that.

Coming up for air, he gave her a bit of a goofy grin.

"You can kiss me whenever you want. Whenever."

Stepping close, she lost herself in the kiss, losing all track of time and place for a moment. She was just as winded when they pulled apart but she still swayed into him instinctually seeking more.

"Yea? Same. Definitely the same."

"Yeah, lots of different kinds, I think. And that's a good idea. I mean, try all of them until we find what works best for us?"

That would mean having a lot of sex too, but he definitely wasn't against that. He had a feeling that once they started it would be impossible to stop.

He kissed her again, lightly, then reluctantly pulled back, leaning his forehead against hers.

"I want to keep doing this all day. But maybe we should get waffles first? I'm also starving."
