Pepper had been through and seen a lot since Tony became Iron Man. Kidnapped. Almost killed. Became a super...something. Skipping time and dimensions didn't even come near the top of the worst things that's happened, but it was still disconcerting. In her opinion, those Accords and what they did to friendships was the worst, but that subject was a little taboo.

She'd gotten a Super Uber pick-up by Carol Danvers...who after talking to she came to the conclusion that she really liked the woman...and taken to a building that she had never seen before. That was saying something since Pepper had been in New York often enough to know every high-rise by sight. She vaguely remembered being told what apartment number to go to as she was dropped off. The elevator ride didn't even register in her mind. Her consciousness caught up with her as she stood in front of the door. What if he wasn't in there? What if it was some kind of trick by one of their many enemies? Loki, for instance. Pepper felt her heart thud in her chest before she took a deep breath then reached out to knock on the door.

Pepper was far from wearing that blue dress. She was dressed for the woods: flannel over underarmor, old pair of jeans and hiking boots. Her hair was back in a ponytail, which wasn't unusual except for the fact that it hadn't been styled that way.

He didn't have to dress for her. She had definitely seen him at his worst, but she appreciated the effort. Still, Pepper had known him long enough by now to pick out the details that told her he'd been stressing out more than usual. The smile that came to her face was tolerant, loving but the shine of tears in her eyes said she'd been scared and worried regardless of how much she wanted to deny it.

"Hi, Tony," she said before moving forward to pull him into a tight hug. It was almost as desperate a hug as when he'd come back from space, and they'd both learned neither had been dusted.

	Pepper's embrace woke him from his trance. He wrapped his arms around her and buried his face in her neck. He enjoyed breathing in her scent for a few moments before moving in for a kiss. "Welcome to a new brand of chaos," he teased. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

The kiss was so familiar it helped ground her, calmed her nerves. She chuckled for what he said as she cupped his face with her hands. "It wouldn't be us if there weren't any chaos."

She smoothed her hand back over his hair as her eyes searched his face. "You haven't been sleeping more than usual. You have more bags under your eyes than I do...did...in my closet."

Tony laughed and kissed her nose. "Well, the entity leaves us clothes so maybe you'll have some bags soon enough," he teased. "Come on, let me show you around." It wouldn't take too long considering the apartment was nowhere near the size of their old home, but he was excited to share it with her all the same. He didn't bother confirming her suspicion; she knew she was right about his sleeping habits. "The kids aren't here," he added.

	"Yeah?" Pepper was a bit more excited to hear that! "Then I can stop looking like I'm on the Oregon Trail." She wrapped her arms around one of his and gave it a squeeze. "Tell me you didn't kick them out." She gave him a mild version of her Stern Face, but she couldn't hold it. She was just too relieved to be with him. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"You look beautiful," he replied as she entwined their arms together. "And, yeah, got tired of them," he teased, referring to Pete and Michelle. "Funny, isn't it? Talking about kids?" He had been so close to wanting them in their future. He had been so close to thinking he could be a good father before those aliens invaded NYC.

He gestured around the living room. "Could use your touch, honey."

He would think she looked beautiful wearing a burlap sack. She privately thinks he's weird, but she just smiled and let him have his delusions.

"You were talking about them before you went off with Dr. Strange," she countered with a small wrinkle of her nose. "Something about a dream you had. You were all kinds of you about it." Meaning he was excited about the idea.

Pepper cast her eyes around the living room. Unlike Tony, she'd been raised in a financially humble family. "I don't know," she said as she tilted her head. "Looks homey. Comfortable."
