There was something on his mind. His cryptic statements were a testament to that fact. Lizzy didn't want to pry, preferring to let him come to his own conclusions on his own terms, but his behavior was troubling her. She wished he would just open up, tell her what was wrong, so she could either try to fix it, or at least smooth his ruffed feathers.
"What's wrong?" she asked softly, looking up into his eyes, her own filled with love and concern. She was genuinely worried, and maybe a little bit afraid he would try to run again.
