Re: The Lounge - Cass and Tim and Open
Thanks to Tim's attentions and behavior, Cass found herself in a mood she was rarely known to be in: bubbly.
While she was nowhere near as dark and scary a figure as the criminal element had assumed Batgirl to be, her more cheerful moments tended to be relatively subdued, even when she was smiling with her entire body. But now? She could not stand still. The flutters that had occasionally stirred in her belly whenever Tim would look at her a certain way were out in force. When he first gave her the necklace, she hopped around and put it on, then pirouetted in place. Whenever he held her waist, her fingers danced across his hands and up his arm. Whenever he gave her a kiss on the lips, she responded by pulling him down for a giant smooch in front of everyone.
Her eyes searched his when he complimented her. There was always so much going on in his eyes; it was one of her favorite things about him. She saw how long he'd wanted to be with her like this. She saw how proud of her he was for deciding to show her scars. And she saw that he...
...oh.
She turned to the young women, both of whom were glaring. One alternated between glaring at her and glaring at Tim, who returned it with a meaningful glance of his own. She and Tim seemed to have a history. Interesting. This caused her to briefly wonder if Tim's behavior toward Cass was simply a way to keep up appearances and to get back at the ex. It was a troubling thought, but she had seen too much genuine emotion in Tim's eyes to give the thought much weight.
As she steered Tim toward the refreshment table -- all that food was calling to her -- she overheard one of the girls comment, "where did he get that whore?"
The other one added, "you'd think he could have at least found one that wasn't covered in track marks."
"Yeah, she looks like she brought her whole street corner with her."
Cassandra stopped walking. Her bubbly demeanor had fled. She turned and glared.
