This was why she loved her friend Babs. She always got right down to the heart of the matter - no matter what. In a way, they shared the same curiosity. It was endearing to Lizzy. And Lizzy could be honest almost to a fault with her. She didn't have to worry about keeping up appearances.
"Second and first degree burns, mostly." She gently peeled back the tape and then part of the bandage to show Babs her neck and shoulder. The burns were still red and angry, though the blistering had finally subsided, they were still weeping and covered in medicine. "They go down to my elbow and across my chest a bit. Thank God I had a date that night and was wearing a padded bra, or it would be on my breasts, too." She moved the bandage back up over the wounds. She would be scarred, and she worried that once Dick saw that, it would change things. It would change things for her, period. Her face was grim just talking about this. "I should be off bed rest soon, maybe by the weekend. It will be a couple of weeks before I can go back to work because of the infection risk. But I am likely going to Dad's after the weekend. Stay in the guest house for a while."
However, she lightened a bit when she started talking about Dick. "Well, as much as this sounds like my mother," she winced slightly, "we reconnected at his dad's funeral. You know my gang early diversion program? Yeah, over that. So we went out... and then had this amazing night of vegan food and star gazing." Her face had developed into this stupid grin. "Our second date was him rescuing me after that Cosa Nostra thug got me." She smiled at her good friend. "I swear, I wasn't keeping you in the dark. That bastard broke my phone, Babs! Denise just brought my replacement this morning when she, Dad and Angie came to visit."
