He was acting entirely out of duty, not concern. Those idiots of the Order couldn't be trusted to care for a pet toad – it would serve them right if they had to clear up the remains of a rotting werewolf corpse. But Severus Snape did not forget his duty, or overlook his commitments.

And if it was not the Full Moon, what did that matter? Duty could not be dictated by the vagaries of a lunar cycle.

Confronting the werewolf's surprised but pleased greeting, Severus ungraciously muttered "Someone had to make certain you had not died, mourning your worthless mate."
