Gold... It’s not something I’ve ever had much of. My Da forever sought it, schemed for it, yet its possession never brought the happiness he promised. It always flowed through his fingers and poured nightly into a glass.
At school, gold was the colour of my enemies. Overly bold and ostentatious, it screamed to the world: look at me, I’m better than you.
But I’ve finally made my peace with gold and admit its worth. For it’s the colour of my lover, whose gold flecked glance quickens my heartbeat from beneath a thatch of golden threads, finely tempered with silver.
