Title: Patronuses do come in all shapes and sizes
Word Count: 3 x 100
Rating: PG-13
Challenge: #236: Teeth
Characters: Remus/Severus
Summary: In a different land, working a different occupation, they come across different people from different backgrounds. Or: all’s not as it seems.

Warning: Post-DH AU. (also known as bad!fic, crack!fic, lack-of-sleep!fic). Indelicate treatment of characters and cliches. Not a crossover, but does refer to some pop culture themes. I hope this is okay. *resumes preemptive cowering*

The year is 2009. Snape and Lupin are now living in The United Wizarding States of America because the British Wizarding World still refuses to have ex-Death Eaters and werewolves disrupt the livelihoods of “normal” wizards and witches. It doesn’t quite matter that they’re both decorated war heroes, survivor of Voldemort’s insane world-domination scheme, and Harry Potter’s best pal (Lupin that is).

Now they work for The Department of Magical Defense as field agents in the Matrix Project, code names: Agent Smith and Agent Link. Their primary task is to take dental records of all werewolves living in the country.

---

Which is why they end up here, one afternoon. Snape, in his dark sunglasses and crisp black suit, steps out of their black regulation car. Lupin, after making sure that he’s parked Nebuchadnezzar perfectly between two white lines, switches off the engine and joins Snape.

“Ah… fog. Reminds you of Hogwarts, doesn’t it?” Lupin asks, his British drawl somewhat diluted. “You don’t need your sunglasses, do you?”

“Only if you stop naming our vehicles,” Snape snaps irritably, flashing his newly aligned teeth, courtesy of some expensive orthodontics paid through people’s taxes.

“Ah. Difference in opinions, never the twain shall meet.”

---

They found not only werewolves, but also harpies, fugitive elves, and vampires.

A month later, they meet Eldred Worple on his book tour.

At night, in a diner: “Mr. Sanguini,” Snape says, wiping mustard from the edge of his lip. “We meet the most fascinating vampires in our line of work.”

“Unsurprising. There are many branches of vampires, depending on their originating sire. Which ones have you met?”

“The ones with Teeth Patronuses,” Lupin answers.

“Most odd, they base their whole social system on their patronuses,” Snape interjects. “Canines being at the very top.” (Lupin only wishes it was true).
