Who: Ivy Montgomery and John Dawlish
Where: The Ministry of Magic
What: Getting her memories back
When: Sunday Afternoon, November 12th
Rating: Low
Her therapist (who Ivy would never admit to seeing) had told her it was normal to struggle to adjusting to the real world after being in an abusive relationship. He promised that the trauma she experienced wouldn't define her forever, but Ivy couldn't seem to believe him. Each time she closed her eyes, Max's face was there. It was easy to pretend she wasn't struggling. After all, pretending is what Ivy was best at. All the people in her life were so happy to have her back that Ivy couldn't bring herself to tell them the truth.
She was terrified.
Every moment of every day Ivy worried that Max would come back. She worried he'd show up in her flat and drag her back to Tinworth. She worried he was watching her. She went as far as to polyjuice herself into the building maintenance man and went into the other flats to check and see if he was lingering nearby. Her paranoia was becoming all but impossible to deal with. It was a miracle no one had caught on, but Ivy supposed she was just really good at pretending to be someone else.
It helped, she supposed, that she didn't quiet feel like herself anyway. Strange behavior could be explained away by her lack of memories. Little things were starting to come back and Fred would grin the cutest grin when she said or did something from their old life. But it wasn't enough. Ivy wanted to reclaim what she'd sacrificed because of Max. She wanted to be herself again.
It was difficult to believe that she could have been as happy as John and Fred said she was. Her life, even now, was edged with the darkness Max had forced on her. Ivy had to have some faith, however, which is how she found herself using the Visitor's entrance the Ministry on a Sunday afternoon to meet her friend in private.
Ignoring her former co-workers who looked at her with wonder, Ivy moved to John's new office and knocked lightly. "So I hear the new Chief Warlock is a right arse," she said with the smallest of smiles as she let herself in. "Total git."
