Rating: TBD- low?
Astoria felt like someone had sucked the air out of her lungs. She had started to feel like things had reached a steady state- a new normal, and then one announcement had come after another, after another, and now her sister was suddenly carrying public enemy number one's baby, the ministry had all but been disbanded, and her parents were ready to throw their support behind a man who had freed all the death eaters from Azkaban.
Work had been a haze, and she knew she hadn't been operating at her best. She was moving slow, missing silly things, clearly distracted. The bags under her eyes had, fortunately, been enough to let her co-workers think she was just sleep deprived (which- to be fair- she was), and they had sent her off to lunch a little early, demanding she return fully caffeinated.
There was a cup of coffee in her hands, but she didn't seem to be noticing it much and the few sips she had taken didn't seem to have helped her much. She kept wondering what would happen to her sister if Malfoy was caught- she had obviously already chosen her allegiances, and how could she not when the baby she was carrying was his? Did that mean jail time for her, too? The irony of their sudden swap in guilt was blinding. Astoria had been tiptoeing around becoming a disciple for months, and now her sister was the one flirting with fire. Could the Greengrasses not keep their noses out of anything?
A shadow suddenly passed over her coffee, finally enough to jolt Astoria out of her daze as she quickly looked up, fumbling with her cup that (thank Merlin) had a lid over it to prevent more than a few drops from splashing out. "Oh, Merlin's bl-" She abruptly cut off the curse on her lips before it could slip out. "Sorry- sorry!" She offered a sheepish smile to them, grip tightening more securely on the cup. "Apparently, I'm a little jumpy."
