The skies seemed to reflect the storm that had been brewing beneath her skin for months- maybe years: unrecognized for what it really was until recently. What she had thought was passion and righteousness had actually been impulsive recklessness of youth, unspoiled and sheltered by privilege and luck. That fire in her eyes had not yet been tamped out, but they flickered instead of raged: chaotic and uncertain instead of wild. They had turned up to the sky as it rumbled a reluctant greeting- or warning- as she was transferred from her Wandholder escort to a servant of the Malfoy household. An unhappy home with old foundation stones, the manor itself yawned like a cave, ready to swallow her as she stepped inside.
Gabrielle could hear her heartbeat in the quiet of the room she had been left within; it seemed to swallow sound, empty and lifeless, despite the warm aesthetic- though part of that very well could have been her nerves. She was almost glad for the thunder.
In uncertain silence like that, time dragged on the way it did when one held their breath. She did her best to focus on anything besides the past weeks, or what the next would bring, by exploring every detail of the room- the book cases drew her attention more than anything else. They somehow felt more inviting than the rest of the room, though there was no real reason why. Gabrielle hovered near them, scanning the titles with her gaze just to keep it busy; occasionally she gently touched the spine of one that looked particularly interesting, or weathered.
