Author's Note: Happy New Year, ravenna! Thank you so much for the prompt. This story kind of took on a life of its own, and I don't think that would have happened if I hadn't tried a Snape POV for the first time. I hope you enjoy the results.

I'm glad you picked up on the sad. My beta, who is not in fandom, thought it was quite sad.

And I've been pleasantly surprised by how many people like my critters.
