Fic: Strong at the Broken Places
Title:Strong at the Broken Places
Author: [info]joanwilder
Giftee:[info]veridian_dair
Word Count:24,000+
Rating:NC-17
Pairing:Harry/Severus
Warnings:None
Genres:Hurt/Comfort, Angst, Romance
Disclaimer: All Harry Potter characters herein are the property of J.K. Rowling and Bloomsbury/Scholastic. No copyright infringement is intended.
Summary: After the war, both Snape and Harry have the chance to start over again…more than once. The choice is whether to go it alone or with each other.
Author's Notes:To my recipient: here's a helping of hurt/comfort, angst, Snape saving Harry again, plot, and a few other things you wanted that I'll not mention so you'll be surprised. Some events in this story were inspired by the film, 'An Affair to Remember,' with one dialogue line taken directly from it. My gratitude to my equally anonymous beta reader, who inspires, exhorts, and gently corrects.

Aww, such a sweet fic! Everything was lovely - the dialogue, the descriptions, the interaction between Harry and Snape. Wonderful!

Lovely!

I adore h/c and this worked so well. The humor was terrific...something we don't always get from Snape.

Well done!

Wonderful hurt/comfort without everything being completely cured by magic, and each of them getting to save the other. So many lovely lines and images that were perfect for the two of them.

What a kickoff! That was so fantastic. I've got a huge shit-eating grin on my face and I daresay it's not leaving anytime soon. Such an amazing Severus. Minerva's reveal to him was so exquisitely painful, I could feel every accelerated heartbeat - oh! Just perfect. Thank you!

Oh wow!
Hurt/comfort at its best.
Well done!

I love that it was written from Severus' POV for the most part. The details definitely made this story. Greece! Beekeeping! Shooting stars and the Aurora Borealis... All awesome.
When Harry missed the appointment my heart broke for Severus.
When I found out why my heart broke for both of them.
And the way Severus finally snagged Harry was PERFECT. Direct and to the point Severus is VERY sexy. Rrrrow.

Very enjoyable read! Thanks so much!

Simply wonderful. I love that they're both damaged--physically and mentally--yet they still manage to come together and love each other. My heart ached for Harry waking up in the Hospital thinking that Severus had deserted him. How terrible. I love Minerva in this story--she's friendly and not judgmental. Great story.

This is utterly charming! Sweet, intense, and I loved your succinct yet fluid use of language.

Most perfect to start a very Snarry holiday!!!!!!!

Oh, that was wonderful, so romantic! My husband was in Finland once for work and saw the Nothern Lights, but said he wished I was there to share it with him, just like Snape wanted Harry with him, LOL!

this was wonderful! i loved snape covering his hurt with a lie - that backfired on him so completely. and i loved the flashes of emotion & sensation woven through the story - toes in sand, smooth skin, flashes of wonder. i especially liked the recurring theme of astronomical phenomena.

What a beautiful story. My heart is well satisfied: Your Severus is sincere, your Harry selfless; they struggle, they fumble, they see each other and love grows.

Ahhhh the angst!! It broke my heart in two! So awful for Severus to think Harry hadn't turned up because he didn't want him, and then for Harry to be left all alone... *cries* But they made it together in the end, and I'm so happy! Brilliant fic, truly heartwrenching!

Lovely story...especially the metaphor (simile? parable? *g*) of the hermit crabs sharing a shell. That made me very happy.

This is pure love: "I loved coming here to see you. Well, the 'here' part doesn't matter all that much—it's the 'you' part that's important."
Lovely, romantic read, good start for the holidays for me:-)

I read this & couldn't initially comment - I was too moved. I saved it to my delicious bookmarks & said nothing because I didn't have the words.
I still don't have the words!!! This is so very moving - it's deeply sustaining on an emotional level - the title is perfect, the quotation is perfect - the whole story is just so bloody perfect!
First I read it quickly - it hurt, you know, so I tried to rush past that feeling. But the story still clung, later.
And this time, re-reading it - I'm so moved all over again - heart-broken and re-made.
You've captured Severus's grief for Albus so very well - at the cottage, when he finally grieved properly, I was sobbing.
And later, the guilt, the pain, the regret, the remorse, when Severus has realized what he's done - how he deserted the person he most wanted to be there for, when that person was broken. It is so masterfully done - so well-written.
I hope this comment makes sense - very rambling, I know - it's difficult to express how much I enjoyed this wonderful, brilliant, heart-breaking story.

Perfection!!!
I just got around to reading, sorry to comment so late.
This has to be the most touching Snarry I've read in a long time. Hopeful, heartbreaking, powerful, and aching. I could totally feel the aching loneliness of both men and the joy of acceptance. Supremely well written.
"would you like to share a shell or not?" just sent me crying.
Really brilliant story!

Aw... I'm so glad I finally had a chance to read this. It's such a good story, I love the misunderstanding and I'm so glad they finally found each other. The scene where Severus goes to Harry's chambers with a bottle of whisky just hit all the right spots with me. Well done, mystery author!
