Team Cauldron Entry (FIC): "Everything He Ever Wanted" By Beth H
Title: Everything He Ever Wanted
Author: Beth H ([info]bethbethbeth)
Team: Cauldron
Genre(s): Alive & Kicking
Prompt(s): Diary of a Prince, Tongue Tied
Rating: PG (...and even this is just wishful thinking)
Warning/Kinks: Highlight if you wish to see: * *Non-graphic Het (Snape/Lily; Harry/Ginny); What looks like an AU in parts; Some totally understandable cursing and angst; A slim chance that the Epilogue will never happen.**
Word Count: ~8770
A/N: To the wonderful Mods for their [usual] forebearance at my extreme tardiness, to Alisanne (the only true team captain) for not wagging her finger at her absentee colleague, to the talented artists and authors of Team Cauldron for not running me out of town on a rail, and to the lovely Femme and the lovely Dragon for speedy read-throughs.

Summary: Wouldn't it be wonderful, if at life's end, you were given everything you'd ever wished for? Severus Snape used to think so.

Most excellent and interesting work! I found the reality Snape was in most fascinating. I like how Harry was able to bring Snape to the real reality and everything. I rather like to think that the Epilogue won't happen in this story, our boys just need some time. Well done!~Sophia

That was awesome! I loved Snape's diary entries and Harry's reactions to them. Way to go, captain!

Bbbwwwhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?! Ahahahaha, omg. *shakes computer* *waits for more* CLIFFHANGER?!

*glares*

That being said, lol, I adored this fic. You sucked me straight into it and held me in your evil, cliffhangering grip from the first word to the last. Simply excellent.

Totally know which fic I'm writing a closing-games drabble for now...

Dude! OMG, this was awesome!
How did you do this in less than 10K? This was epic.
LOVED the back and forth between the two worlds, loved Harry and his clueless friends and when Lily said Mudbloods I think my heart stopped.
Fabulous fic, my dear! You rock.
And you SO ARE my awesome co-captain, yo! *twirls you* ;)

Excellent work! The cliffhanger was mean, though. I love that Severus dies and awakens into the life he thought he wanted when he was a teenager. I also like how unhappy he was in that life (I guess it shows he grew up more than we thought). Harry's nosiness served them well as he found a way to save Severus. In my mind, the ending was longer. *g*

Great job, co-captain. Our team is awesome!

Poor Snape - be very careful what you wish for...

Couldn't stop laughing at Harry's thoughts of comparing Skinner to Hermione, or Ron's perfect recall - lovely.

I enjoyed this ar (or au?) very much. And I can't help thinking it's just as well our teenage dreams don't often come true.

Let me echo the sentiment that this was over waaay too soon ;) I love how Snape's new world played out. It seemed kind of lovely at first, got progressively stranger, and then Lily said "mudbloods"... That was a creepy, creepy moment. I felt a lot like tearing up along with Snape when it all crashed down on him. Excellent work.

Excellent! I loved that Harry managed to bring Severus back. Though I hate to think that there is still a chance that the Epilogue will happen, *sighs* but I guess you can't have everything. Besides who knows, maybe our boys will be together after all.

Great story!

Thanks for sharing!

Ooh, very good fic, with lots of things to make me think. Poor bewildered Snape, stuck in his teenage-fantasy-grown-up, and good for Harry for going to his rescue! Tom as Minister was inspired and what on earth happened to James? Left me wanting to know more.

That was a very interesting reality Snape found himself in but just a little terrifying. I loved Harry's reaction to reading about Severus & Lily together typical really of any child thinking about their parents having sex. It was very sneaky how Harry brought up scrying but at least it helped. An enjoyable read all round :)

I really enjoyed this. I loved that 17 year old Snape's idea of heaven becomes adult Snape's idea of hell. Which is why Snape's attitude toward Harry at the end makes total sense. Harry needs some time to grow up. Epilogue or no epilogue, I like to think that they find their way to each other eventually.

That Snape fantasy world you depicted gave goosebumps, and not in a good way. Very good depiction!

I love how you've taken all these canon elements, tossed them into a hopper, given it a wild shake, and come out with a totally new and original idea and result.

So very well done, this!

Absolutely fascinating, and much appreciated for its implicit critique of the teenage-fantasy-come-true of canon. Enjoyed thoroughly! M.

YOu know, I'm amazed when someone comes up with something original in the Potterverse after all this time.

I'm amazed. The idea of Snape somehow - and it's fine that we don't know how - finding himself in the very world he would have created if his teenaged ambitions had succeeded is completely new and intriguing. The Snarry aspect of it, just sweet and secondary. This is a lot of fun and well done. Well done!

oh, happy sigh... but, gads you are such a tease!!!

I really love the way you built the alternate world slowly and carefully until it became chillingly clear what it was.

Excellent as always my dear. I can count on you to always be entertaining. I like that in a writer. I also liked the deeper meaning here. The 'be careful what you wish for' theme. I love to see Harry and Snape in a couple of years, when Harry grows up enough to find who he is, and then finds Snape again. *g* Sequel anyone?

Well, you already know I love you, so my saying it again will come as no surprise, but, be that as it may, I love you. This is terrific! And worth whatever struggle you had to birth it. What a great and unique way to show how Snape had changed over the years. I'm impressed by how you managed to invest chilling creepiness into a story written in an essentially light-hearted style. Gah, I suck at reviews! Um, then there's my complete jealousy of your ability to imbue a (relatively) short fic with so much feeling and depth. And a re-read brought out even more wonderful stuff: that Snape's teenage wish included the life of Cynthia Haynes and that she became a healer is so um, tender without being mucky; the odd sort of foreshadowing inherent in referring to Moon and Sixpence; there was at least one other thing I particularly wanted to comment on, but it escapes me at the moment. I was amused by Harry realizing the trouble he gets into by not having a real plan in place and then going ahead with rescuing Snape without a plan. I'm am also amused by my own interpretation of what happens next, which is that Snape refuses to let Harry choose him and thereby forcing him into the same sort of wrong, wish-fulfilling choice that Snape had just escaped. Yeah, I'm not a fan of The Epilogue.

I've been waiting anxiously for your fic to go up because I knew you wouldn't disappoint me. In case I haven't made it abundantly clear, I love this, Beth, and I thank you for writing it.
