Team Snitch Entry (FIC): "By Sulfur and Salt" by Elfwreck
Title: By Sulfur and Salt
Author: [info]elfwreck
Team: Snitching Victory!
Genre(s): Gender Bender and/or Crossdressing
Prompt(s): Doppelganger, Alchemy
Rating/Warnings/Kinks: NC-17; Highlight if you wish to know: *Explicit Snape/Lily. Identity issues.*
Word Count: ~16,000
Author Notes/Disclaimers/Betas: Many thanks to [info]joanwilder for beta reading at odd hours and a ridiculous amount of hand-holding. Special bonus points (whatever those are) to [info]naatz who nudged me into this prompt and walked me through last-minute beta help, to [info]chaosraven who helped me sort out POV issues, and the Team Snitch Random Beta Crew, who are too many to mention and all deserve medals. The team was wonderful; any flaws remaining are mine.

Summary: Snape's idyllic life with Lily is disrupted when the Ministry of Magic takes an interest in them.

Y'know what? The level of fuckupedness (new word) in this is pretty damn high, and talk about pushing the comfort level up several degrees? Oh yeah, it's all in there.

Despite the het (which was sexy and very well written) in this a, well, Snarry exchange, I didn't mind it at all. It more than served its function. Lily's twitchiness and desperation was almost palpable and I found that I was twitchily reading through the fic to see where and how the shoes dropped. Excellent premise, nicely detailed bits on the making of the potion (I totally believed it, btw) and Snape in character as much as he can be while living with - essentially - two people.

I was really fascinated by the way you lead the reader through the scenario, all the time giving us hints which we think we know but aren't sure, or mightn't be sure of just how to put it all together, and then the masterful unfolding... really, this one will stay with me for a long time.

Back to the potion. I really liked the descriptions of the process, the logic, the ingredients (and the procurement methods!) and how stressful it was on them both every time.

The confrontation with Hermione and Arthur.... that was really tense and poignant and quite sad, showing a hint of the depths of despair that Harry must have suffered through. I can't help feeling that there will be some more trouble for them ahead, but perhaps not for a while.

I suppose it's too much to hope for a sequel, but this truly stands out from the rest of the pack in these games.

I was trying for Extreme Fuckedupitude. On several levels, including "it's Snarry, but I won't bother introducing Harry until a third of the way into the story. In the meantime, have some het. Have some more."

Glad you liked the potion-making; that was fun to write (as opposed to the Hermione & Arthur scenes, which were twitchy-making to write).

Most sorry I'm not planning on a sequel; I've got a stack of WIPs, and I'm hoping that finishing this this will inspire me to get through some of them. If I can write "Harry turns into Lily and lives with Snape," then surely I can write an Aberforth genfic, right? And a nice Luna/Draco/Snape threesome, set during DH?

I wanted this one to be disturbing; I'm very happy that came across.

Oh, don't get me wrong, the het was hot! HAWT!

You can more than write Aberforth genfic.... you haz mad skillz. Also the threesome? Um, yes please.

I've been considering a possible sequel to this fic, and, really, with no negativity meant towards your writing abilities, but I doubt that even you could get it to be quite this fucked up again! *grins*

I think I'm going to re-read it and look for more clues this time around.

I am more than happy for someone else to take up the Twisted Tale of Snape and Harrily. I don't even have any strong opinions where it's "supposed" to go... in my happy-liking world, Harry slowly gets better, but it's also possible that Hermione & Arthur make their report to the Ministry, which promptly heads down to Chipping to "rescue" Harry, who either winds up broken in St Mungos, or winds up killing Ron to defend Snape, or some other hideous result.

Or, y'know, Snape & Harry get a hint that they're coming ('cos Hermione just can't let that happen), and they skip the country and Harry winds up working in a drag show in San Francisco. Lotsa room for a sequel to go all sorts of fucked-up places.

(No fic writing this week. This week, I'm linkspamming like crazy.)
