CHAMPION INTERVIEW # 15 - Accioslash!
We welcome another newcomer to the Games:

Your Name: [info]accioslash
Your Team: Phoenix!!!!

1. Which HP character gives you the most trouble to draw?

Hm. That's hard to say since I haven't really tried to draw many of them other than Snape and Harry. I usually come up with an idea for something that strikes me as funny and then try to draw it. Actually, I think if any of my characters were taken out of the context of the cartoon they appear in it would be difficult to identify that I'm drawing any specific character. So perhaps the best answer to this question is that I have an equally difficult time with all of them. ;D

2. What was the first fandom you ever produced art for?

For publication in a zine, Star Trek: TOS. Though I'm pretty sure I did a lot of doodling for earlier fandoms and TV shows I enjoyed. But I'm too lazy to draw anything complicated. I prefer to do simple cartoon drawings where at least half of the effort goes into making the work funny. The idea that inspires the drawing has to be at least as important as the art. Probably more so. I love looking at beautiful art, but I think trying to make people laugh is much better suited to my level of talent.

3. Has your experience in fandom changed the way you do art? How?

Not really. Some people have encouraged me to branch out more and experiment with other mediums, but my approach to art is different from most artists.

4. In a Snape/Harry/(Your team's Mascot) cage match, who wins?

Hm. Skill vs luck vs the thing that can't stay dead. I'm going to have to say the winner is the audience. Just like in all the Snarry Games competitions. ;D

5. What are your favourite mediums to work with?

Totally Sylvia Browne. Or that chick on the TV show, Medium, who looks like tripperfunster. Sorry. That was totally lame, but I couldn't resist. Sometimes you just have to do them for yourself. Pencils. Usually just a plain 'ol #2 pencil. I really prefer the look of black and white art. The only exception to this is mieronna's art. Her color and her backgrounds are simply amazing.

6. What do you consider your strongest talent? Your weakest?

Ha! "Strongest talent?" How about only talent?

Humor. I'm a one-trick pony. ;D But I like to stick with what works. I also think I can capture expressions and convey emotions fairly well. Particularly disgust and irritation.

7. Is there a piece of art that you think is your absolute best so far? Would you link it for us?

All of my stuff is in the same style so I don't really think one piece is better than another. Though my favorite is the NC-17 drawing I did for my series of "fic warnings." You can find it here: http://accioslash.insanejournal.com/51900.html You'll need to scroll down to it.

8. What (or who) inspires you in Fandom?

In regard to art, I tend to be inspired by fandom as a whole. I love putting a new spin on old tropes and good-natured wank. Things like cliches and giving my take on the fic warning debates. I like to use my art as commentary on what's happening in fandom. It's like meta through drawings rather than words.

9. Fanfic writers often say the best compliment they can get for their stories is unsolicited fanart. What would you consider the highest form of compliment for your fanart?

I think I'd laugh hysterically if someone used my warning art as the warning on their fic. Perhaps in the form of an icon. Unsolicited fanfic would be nice as well. ;D

10. Are you excited about being in the Games this year?

Excited, nervous, thrilled, delighted, terrified. And pretty much all at the same time. ;D I appreciate the opportunity.

Thank you, [info]accioslash. Stay tuned for more Champion Interviews, and some Opening Games surprises!

Thanks, hon! I really hope you like the entry. *wibbles* The warnings are my favorite work. I may do a third set if I can think up more. I still haven't done 'rimming' yet. ;D

*wipes tears from eyes*. I love those warnings. And listen, being a one-trick pony isn't a bad thing when you do it really well, like you do. I'm so glad you're in the Games this time!

'm glad I went for it. Hopefully once the scores are in my team will feel the same way. ;D Humor isn't everyone's cup of tea. And I love the warning art, too. Like I told [info]alisanne, I'd love to do a third set if I could come up with more warnings. I haven't done 'rimming' yet and that sooooo needs done. Um, as a drawing. *cough*

Heh. Well, hopefully you like writing crack!fics because I'm afraid my rimming wouldn't quite be what you might expect. More's the pity. ;D I probably will do another post eventually. And I'd be delighted to have something written by you for any reason.

Hahahaha! *covets your icon*

Well, now I *have* to do a third post. I'm sure there are a few warnings I haven't done yet that need crackified.

I think trying to make people laugh is much better suited to my level of talent.

I'd argue it's actually a type of talent all on its own -- I'm bollocks at cartoons, really, and I envy your clean lines and awesome expressions. *g*

I'm sure your piece is awesome! Go team us! *g*

It really is a different sort of talent which is why I've been hesitant to enter the games in the past. I love the idea of crack!art. I think I managed a combination of funny and serious this time, though. And I've really enjoyed the experience so far.

Oh, I am so envious at people who can do cartooning at the level you do. I stink at it big time! Can't wait to see your pic (even if you're on the other team!)

Thanks! Some people seem really skilled at pretty much everything art-wise. I just can't seem to draw realistically. Like you, I'm excited to see all the entries no matter which team the entry is from. There are so many new (to me, anyway) names here this time and I don't know what to expect. It's like getting an extra surprise in your Cracker Jacks. *iz old* Lol.

*laughs hysterically at the warning art* Oh wow. xDD Haven't seen these before, so am looking at them all.. *dying of laughter* Okay, you have me in tears - especially with the NC-17 one. One of my brothers was all "O_o Why does he have a sheep...?" and I'm afraid I was laughing too hard to even think of replying! xDD

So glad you're on my team! You'll knock the Dragons out by making them laugh themselves to death! xDDD

Heh. Actually, there are two sets of warnings art and I'm thinking of a third. Those are really my babies because I am the world's biggest spoiler fan. There can't be too many warnings/spoilers to suit me. ;D

Glad they made you laugh.

Two sets? Ooooh. Where's the second set? xDD Some things I like to be warned for, but mostly I don't care. Except white-on-white warnings always tempt me into dragging the mouse over them to see what they say! xDD

Boy, did they. xD

You can find the second set here:

There's also a set of cliches, too, somewhere. But I like the warnings best. I love the white-on-white warnings. That seems like the best compromise available, imo. I understand that some people don't like to warn. It's their choice, but I won't read their fic. At least not until I'm completely spoiled. I'm sure I miss some good fics, but there are always others to read instead. I'm definitely a pro-warning fan. ;D

*dies of laughter again* I LOVE (x1111) Snape's expression in Mpreg 2 - that's just fucking priceless! And I think I just about killed myself with a bite of bagel when I looked at the "Snape rescues Harry from the Dursleys" one. xD Priceless. xD

To each their own, as they say. xD (But it WOULD be damn hilarious to use your warning art for fic warnings.. xD)

lovely interview!
I always enjoy your art. the ability to draw something funny is a real talent. Trying to convey a joke with minimal->no text is very difficult, and you do it very well.
I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

I'm going to have to say the winner is the audience.

AHAHA! Y'damn right, man. XD

LOL. MEDIUM. OMG.

But I think your fic warnings win, like. SO. HARD. AHAHAHAHA I LOVE THEM. We need so totally need to make them a must-have for all fic warnings, omg! Maybe then people will chill and remember that fandom is all about the fun, yes?

YAY YOU PARTICIPATING!!

Hee! I'd love to see people use my warning art. I still need to do your suggestion for rimming. I'm sure I can dig up a few more warnings I've neglected.

And, yes, fandom is all about the fun. Really. I see so many people angsting over all the woe and everything is all srs bizns, but I'm here because I have fun. When it seems too much like work, I think u must be doin it rong. But maybe that's just me. ;D

Participating this year has been awesome. I'm really glad I decided to do it.
