CHAMPION INTERVIEW # 11 - Inoru no Hoshi!
We welcome another newcomer to the Games:
Your Name: Mara/inoru_no_hoshi
Your Team: Phoenix! Burn, baby, burn!
Archive: (optional) Geez, it's spread all over the place... My deviantART page, for one; also my Flickr; and sundry pictures are on my IJ, though it'd be easier to look at them on Flickr, since I haven't added them to my masterlist yet.
1. Which HP character gives you the most trouble to draw?
Between Severus and Harry (the only ones I've drawn so far), I have to say Severus. It's hard to make him look right without over- or under-exaggerating any of his features, especially his nose. ;D
2. What was the first fandom you ever produced art for?
Uhm... I think the first fandom I drew art for was Inuyasha , probably at least five years ago. At least, that's probably the first one I ever posted anything for; I probably have some doodles for Sailor Moon and DragonBall Z somewhere. :P
3. Has your experience in fandom changed the way you do art? How?
Over the many long years I've been attempting fanart.. I'd have to say yes. The thing about fanart is that it gives you a certain general look to go for - especially the visual fandoms like anime/manga or TV shows or movies, etc. - which is a challenge. And the closer you get to accurately conveying the canon appearance, or to your own skewed mental images, the more accomplished you feel. So I'd say fanart, overall, has helped me improve my art in many ways...not least stylistic and anatomical! :D
4. In a Snape/Harry/Phoenix cage match, who wins?
Hm. The phoenix, because it can teleport and has wicked claws. Next to that, spells and body tackles would be made of so much fail, since I doubt there's a way to prevent phoenixes teleporting.
5. What are your favourite mediums to work with?
This requires a two-part answer, since I don't have a scanner. So. On computer, I use Paint Shop Pro 6 and Painter 6 with a tablet. Otherwisely, I use ordinary pens for a lot stuff, also graphite, coloured pencil, marker, crayon, chalk, charcoal, pastels, and a quill-style pen and ink. Something I would like to do is learn to paint with various mediums.
6. What do you consider your strongest talent? Your weakest?
Strongest: Eyes, hair, expressions, and conveying emotion. Weakest: Backgrounds, followed by hands and feet.
7. Is there a piece of art that you think is your absolute best so far? Would you link it for us?
"Absolute best" is a subjective phrase: one picture could have awesome composition, another well-drawn hands (my personal devil), another a good background, etc. It's rare for something I draw to be considered one of my best all-around... buuutt I have to admit to having a few favourite works...like this picture of Harry I did for ides_of_march, or this sketch of Severus.
8. What (or who) inspires you in Fandom?
Generally speaking, it's the images and voices in my head. >:D But seriously, prompts and random phrases have a way of sparking things off... and a word to the wise: younger brothers have the most uncanny way of spawning crack!fic. And every now and again, I'll be doing something perfectly unrelated and then get swamped by Ideas in the form of bunnies. I have icons for this...
9. Fanfic writers often say the best compliment they can get for their stories is unsolicited fanart. What would you consider the highest form of compliment for your fanart?
A fic! But honestly, I'm delighted with comments. They make me squeeful, and I'll end up smiling for ages.
10. Are you excited about being in the Games this year?
Excited, nervous, gleeful and hoping like heck my entry turns out good. xD;
Thank you, inoru_no_hoshi! Stay tuned for more Champion Interviews, and some Opening Games surprises!
