Summary: Once upon a time Severus Snape fell in love. And then everything went wrong.
A/N: All the definitions preceding the chapters are taken from "The Devil's Dictionary," by Ambrose Bierce, originally published in newspapers in a serialized version between 1881 and 1906 as "The Cynic's Word Book," and then bound and republished in 1911 under its current name.

And thank you again for your beta--it was fantastic and you three were <i>truly</i> lifesavers. &hearts; <font="-2">I know I didn't fix the POV issues you picked up, but they were semi-intentional. Semi-frequent sliding between POVs is a bad habit I have in my writing and I wasn't quite prepared to try and adjust it with this fic.</font> And I'm really glad you liked the fic.

^^;; I wanted to bring something different to the Games this year (well, different compared to what I thought the bulk of the fic offerings would be, not different for me) and I hope I succeeded. The fic offers are incredibly diverse, though; I personally think it's because we have such an impressive line up of authors on both teams. Yay, Games! Yay Phoenix!
