Summary: Once upon a time Severus Snape fell in love. And then everything went wrong.
A/N: All the definitions preceding the chapters are taken from "The Devil's Dictionary," by Ambrose Bierce, originally published in newspapers in a serialized version between 1881 and 1906 as "The Cynic's Word Book," and then bound and republished in 1911 under its current name.

Thank you! ^_^ You know I adore you to pieces, right?

Since the Games seem to be the only time I actually manage to complete a fic these days, I try to bring something a little different them every year, along with a sense of stark realism. This year's entry was particularly vexing to write, but your review made me grin ear to ear because it was spot on with the couple's dynamic in my mind. :-) Not that anyone else's interpretation is incorrect--it's interesting to see the different ways people reacted to this--but rather, the simple bleakness of the situation wherein it's both their faults in a small way, but not really anyone's fault was kind of what I'd hoped to purvey. So yay.

Also, any additional edits would be MUCH appreciated. I hate putting out work with errors in it. My betas did a FANTASTIC job, but I think that by the time I ended up submitting this, I was too exhausted to see straight, let alone edit 50+ pages of fic.
