ON AN AGE-OLD ANVIL

No Worst, There is None

The door slammed loudly from the force that Harry entered with. Vials rattled and the bookshelves shook. Harry didn't speak. He just glared at his lover. Anger had replaced so many things inside of him. He was cold. So very cold.

"I suppose you thought I would run after you."

"I’m waiting," Harry paused to suck in air that wasn't ragged. "For you to show that you feel something! I'm waiting for you to give a fuck about me!"

Severus made a disgusted sound, rose, and left the room.

Harry slid to the ground and sobbed into the stone wall.

Pitched Past Pitch of Grief

The guest room was cold. As if the fire that had been lit was too weak to sink into Harry’s skin. He trembled, but not in anticipation.

“You’re beautiful.” This whispered in his ear by a voice that was nothing like silk.

Harry arched into the touch; into the sensation of having someone unfamiliar fill him. He bit his lip to hide his pain. Something inside of him was shattering. His green eyes filled with tears, blurring his vision as hope slowly abandoned him.

All the while, he waited for the door to open and for Severus to see this.

- -

Comforter, Where is Your Comforting

The wand against his throat was hard and cold. Harry expected it to burn.

“Is this what you wanted?” Severus hissed.

The wand twisted like a knife. Harry was still. Anything would be better than the numbness. He felt hollow. So he stared into the angry black eyes and without malice, he nodded.

He thought that Severus would curse him.

Instead the wand clattered to the floor and Severus crumbled beside it. The sharp, ripping sound of Severus’ sobs, made Harry wrap his arms around his naked body.

The cold stung.

I was waiting for it to end like this.
