Let Us Give Thanks
Characters: Debi, Zach, Snitch, Jane
Debi gave the turkey one last brush with the spicy pomegranate glaze she'd found on-line, made sure that the warming charm she'd cast on the rest of the meal had held instead of either freezing or consuming the mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, and green beans, and wished for the thousandth time she'd been able to find a real butternut squash. It was bad enough that she'd had to order cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie filling from a gourmet shop!
"Just because I'm here instead of Oil City doesn't mean we can't have our own Thanksgiving," she said to Snitch. "I know it's silly, but who knows if I'll have time to cook a big meal on my own next year? I might be chasing a newborn, or out to here - " she held her hand two feet out from her body " - or we might have to take my crazy relatives out to a hotel.
"Besides, I like cooking for Zach, and I don't care who knows it. He's the one who works full time, not me, and his job is a lot harder than dealing with nuts on-line. I've never seen anyone die, for heaven's sake."
Snitch whined up at her, nostrils quivering at the smell of roasting meat. Debi rolled her eyes. "I just fed you! Stop that or you're going in the bedroom!"
Another whine, this one loud enough that Jane hooted from her cage. Debi gave up and pulled a piece of leftover chicken from the refrigerator. "Here, and you're on your best behavior when Zach gets home. No begging at the table!"
The front door opened, and she turned with a huge smile. "Hi, honey! Dinner's ready! Hope you like turkey!"</lj-cut?
