Don't Look Now
Character: Padma
Summary: Parvati's had a strange encounter...
"It was very strange," Parvati continued, oblivious to the studied blankness on Padma's face. "The way he kept following us. And when I confronted him, he just laughed and said I was the wrong one. Was he looking for you?"
"Probably," Padma said. She took a deep breath, relieved that Parvati and her family were safe. "I seem to have gained a stalker of some kind. I'm sorry he followed you."
"Hmm," Parvati said with a frown. The baby fussed in the background, and Parvati took her head out of the Floo for a moment. "Well, if he's this bad, maybe you ought to call the Aurors or Hit Wizards or something. He's creepy."
"Yes, I will," Padma said. "Are you leaving this afternoon for Mumbai, then?"
"You know we are," Parvati said. There were more noises in the background, and Parvati sighed. "I'd better go. I'll see you in a couple months, okay? Love you."
"Love you too, Parvati," Padma said, and closed down the connection. She sat there on the floor in front of the fireplace for a moment, trying to make sense of her tumultuous thoughts. On the one hand, she felt she ought to go to someone... there was one person that already knew. But he had done so much for her already, to protect her and cover for her, and she couldn't ask him to help her again. On the other hand, he - Macnair, Walden Macnair, say his name - was clearly after her and her alone. He hadn't done anything to Parvati but follow her, and now that Parvati was out of the country for a while, she would be safe.
Those who had come back from beyond the Veil were slowly going back to whatever afterlife they had been in. If Padma just waited him out, surely he would leave as well. Eventually.
