Who: Nebula and Gamora
What: It's another trick
Where: Their house
When: October 6

She woke with a start, sudden and all at once, pushing up into a low crouch pressing her back up against the wall. A full night's sleep was not something she was allowed often, a part of Thanos' abuse and training. Nebula's heart was racing, as she looked around the room, it was not the space she had been given on Thanos' ship, the bed was new as well, and as she looked out the port into the expanse of space she saw a system she did not recognize.

What was Thanos planning now? Some new horror, a punishment for not waking on time, she didn't know. But she knew enough to know that it would not be good. She moved slowly, grabbing the first weapon she saw, clutching it on both hands as she hedged her way toward the door, fear coursing through her as she moved waiting for the surprise that she knew had to be coming.

Leaving the room it became obvious this was not Thanos' ship, and she knew that, she knew this wasn't his ship, this place was hers and yet she didn't understand it. Not fully. But she was hesitant to call out, she did not want to draw more attention to herself than necessary, needing to be invisible as much as she craved the attention that her father constantly denied her.

It chilled her to her very core. Father was going to be so displeased. Gamora swallowed down that fear, but her hands shook as she reached for her sister. Under the table felt a little safer and she took her hands in her own. There was no comforting her, no denying it, he'd be displeased.

The boy in her room wasn't actually worrying her. He was harmless she could just tell and later she could worry about that.

"I know this place," Gamora agreed as she peered out and up at the world above them. But she couldn't make sense of it. "We best split up," she finally said although she squeezed Nebula's hands tight. "See what we find out there."

Beneath the table with Gamora it felt safer, with her sister's hands in hers and the rest of the world hidden from them as they took a moment together to decide what they should do. Nebula still thought they should kill whoever was in Gamora's room and then move on, but her sister seemed to think they should explore this place.

"Do you think it's safe?" She asked her, fear of their father weighed on her in this moment. She didn't want to split up, they were safer together, but Thanos had been driving a wedge between them, Gamora was his favorite. Nebula was not blind to it, but she still hoped that maybe she could find some further connection with Gamora.

"We'll meet back here?" She suggested though because if they were going to split up they needed to know how they were getting back together again. She would not let this place take her sister from her.

Gamora knew that her Father would want them to split up, not cling to each other like babies. He urged them to be strong, he didn't like when Gamora had nightmares and climbed into bed with her sister, he'd get angry. So she needed to be brave, to figure this out.

As long as she was Thanos' favourite she was safe and Gamora found she clung to that. But in that moment without him there she clung to Nebula's hands, their fingers lacing together. "Nothing is safe really," she whispered.

When she told her they'd meet back there she nodded quickly. "Yes, we must, no matter what."

Nebula knew she'd never be the favorite, their father had made that abundantly clear to her time and time again, showing her how much better Gamora was, how much stronger and smarter. But Nebula didn't need to be the favorite, she just needed Gamora. Who still sometimes climbed into bed with her, but less often than she once had, and who held her hands now. It was what Nebula needed right then - but Gamora wanted to split up, to go on her own.

But Nebula didn't want that, but she didn't want most of the things their father had them do. "No it's not," She agreed, there was nothing about their lives that was anymore, not since they had been adopted by Thanos. As much as Nebula wished it could be she knew better. Even this home that was theirs couldn't really be safe.

"Okay," She nodded then at Gamora's agreement that they would meet back here again later. "Bring back anything that looks useful." She added, they should start gathering supplies, she didn't know how long they might be here and they would need to be able to survive until Thanos revealed his plan for them and passed judgement on their performance.

Gamora was scared all of the time, she couldn't voice that, not really, but she was. It tumbled around inside of her, along with a longing for her family. Sometimes at night her body would shake and she would cry for her mother, so long and quiet that she thought she might very well turn into tears. Nebula lay with her, in the dark and they never talked about it. Because that sort of thing would get them in very big trouble and she didn't want that.

They'd said okay and Gamora quickly agreed to bring back anything she might find. But she didn't move. She knew the plan, she knew it was the right one. But she stayed, holding Nebula's hands. "Maybe we should not split up just yet," Gamora said as she looked at her. "We can split up later?" It wasn't the right choice, Thanos wouldn't like it. But Gamora couldn't bring herself to let go of her sister's hand.

"Together we are much more powerful and if we need to run, then we can go two directions," she added as if justifying the decision to anyone who might be listening.

She knew they should move, they had a plan they needed to execute it, it was what Thanos would demand of them. Maybe he was watching them, seeing what they did. But even knowing that she wasn't ready to move, she didn't want to let go of Gamora, she wanted the comfort of her sister, even if it displeased Thanos.

And then Gamora changed her mind, she made a new suggestion, that they stick together, and split up only if they had to. She liked it more, the thought of keeping Gamora nearby. She should worry about agreeing too quickly, but she nodded almost as soon as Gamora had suggested it.

"Yes, we are better together." She agreed, and if they needed to they could split up, but together no one could take them, she was sure of that much. "Together then?" She hoped that sleeping boy stayed hidden Gamora said they weren't going to kill him yet, but right then she thought she might kill anyone who tried to tear Gamora from her.

Nebula was so fierce, Gamora didn't know how on earth she'd ever got to be that way. She wasn't as brave and she still had bad dreams and cried for her mother, she hated to be alone. But Nebula was the most brave and Gamora clung tighter to her hands so she wouldn't change her mind.

Lucky she nodded and she could let out a sigh of relief. Together, they could explore together. What she wanted to do was go get the blanket from the bed where the pink boy slept and pull it over the table, so they could stay there hidden from sight, but that was a silly kind of shelter.

"Yes, together," she agreed as she leaned in to rest her forehead against her sister's. "Maybe he'll never find us, maybe we get to stay lost here," Gamora whispered so quiet, as quiet as she could because no one was allowed to hear that.

Nebula just wanted to know they were safe, that their father wasn't sitting there waiting to tell them everything they'd done wrong during this next lesson, if that's even what it was. But she didn't think there was a way they could do that, at least not unless they left the sort of safety of their little shelter so they would have to eventually.

When Gamora leaned against her Nebula wanted nothing more than to keep hiding right there in that space and no where else, where they were safe and together. And then she said it, so quietly that no one would over hear them and Nebula wanted that to be true so badly, to be free of their father and they could just be lost forever. Even when she knew it was impossible.

"I want to be lost like that," She agreed in that same quiet voice, "With you." She didn't want anyone else, just her sister - the only person in the entire universe she could find the ability to be strong for, Gamora was the only reason she could be strong, that she could fight and try and stay strong in the face of their father. And maybe if they were lost here together like this they could figure out a new way to be together, where they didn't have to fight.

Nebula's forehead was smooth and warm against her own and Gamora stayed there and they were connected, not alone. It was the sort of thing that would make Thanos want them to fight, he'd tell Gamora to train harder, to be the winner. But she didn't want to win, she wanted to stay right there with her sister forever. "Me too, Sister" she said seriously as she squeezed her hand.

Outside she thought she heard a sound and she jumped, getting a little closer so their shoulders pressed together. Gamora would be in such trouble for not being brave, if Thanos could see her, he'd take her to pieces for sure. She breathed in deep, looking for that calm numbness that helped her get through everything. Where there was no fear and no pain.

Carefully she peaked out, spying a knife on the counter top and she broke away to fetch it, moving fast. It wasn't a proper weapon, a kitchen tool instead but it would do.

It was a foolish thought really, that they could ever be lost like this together, out of the reach of Thanos. But that did not stop Nebula from having it, letting herself stay in that moment with Gamora for longer than they should wishing it could be true. She didn't even care that Thanos would punish her for this, because she knew that Gamora wanted it just as much as she did.

But the sound outside startled them both out of that moment and amped up the fear she'd felt since she woke up in a place where she shouldn't have been. Gamora moved before Nebula had been ready, running for a knife on the counter leaving Nebula behind, and part of her wanted to stay hidden there beneath the table, to let the fear keep her still but she knew she couldn't.

She gripped her baton tight in her hands and moved too slower than Gamora but following after her sister and grabbing for her hand and heading for the door. They needed to get out of the house away from the pink creature that had been in Gamora's bed, and see what new trial their father had laid out for them.
