Jughead Jones
And You!
Who: Jughead Jones, OTA
What: Jughead's arrival
Where: Town Square
When: Saturday
Rating: Unrated
Warnings: No warnings anticipated
Status: OPEN, incomplete
There was nothing like burgers and shakes at Pop's to make all the weirdness just go away. Sitting against the window in a booth with Betty by his side, Archie and Veronica directly across from them had some kind of supernatural power that made them all forget everything that happened outside the diner doors. That wasn't entirely true, of course not. But when they were there, chowing down on burgers and sipping hand made shakes, it was easy to pretend the outside world didn't exist.

That feeling, that blissful ignorance couldn't last. Of course not. No. The diner might be open 24 hours, but that didn't mean they could sit there indefinitely. Eventually they had to settle up the bill and head out. That, naturally, was when things went sideways again.

Jughead held the door for his friends. Archie and Veronica, then Betty slipped out ahead of him. He pulled up the rear, and as he let go of the door and took a step forward, he felt himself falling. It was the oddest sensation, more like spinning through space and time, and even though it only lasted a few seconds, it felt like an eternity. He lurched forward, dazed, confused, disoriented.

His gaze darted all around. "The hell?" he muttered to no one in particular. "This is not Riverdale." And his friends were nowhere to be seen. He had no idea where he was, or how he'd gotten here, but he was definitely not where he was supposed to be, unless Pop's parking lot had been transformed into a small town town square while no one was looking. But even so, where were the others? No, he was the one who wasn't where he was supposed to be.

Gamora was still feeling unwell. It wasn't as awful as it had been, she had slept the first few days for hours and hours. But what lingered was effecting her strength and weakness was entirely foreign to her. But she was making do, after all she could still fight if she needed to, she still had the skills even if she didn't have the added enhancements she'd become used to. At least heavily armed she didn't feel vulnerable walking around the small town.

Nebula had suggested that she needed Fresh Air and that outside all the air was fresh, so that's what she was doing. Perhaps she'd go to COFFEE and have some and tell Clint she was feeling better if he needed a break. That's what she'd decided when she heard the muttering behind her.

New people had a certain look about them- mainly confused and sometimes partnered with a little fear. There were far better welcoming types than her, but she was there and walking away and leaving him alone was probably worse than a greeting. "Hello," Gamora called from across the square.

Jughead turned toward the greeting. It was in instinct, to respond to words like 'Hello' or 'Hey you' and 'Boy' in his case. His gaze went past her, then back, eyes widening at the sight of her. She was...green, which was completely unexpected in his experience.

But she looked normal enough otherwise. "Um, hi?" he responded, and took a step toward her. There wasn't really anyone else around, no one else that seemed likely to have called out a greeting anyway, so he reasoned it must have been her.

He wondered why she was green, but that didn't seem like the sort of thing to ask a person right off the bat. Even if it was a glaring abnormality.

His eyes widened when he looked at her, sure, but she was used to that now that she'd been here a little while. These people weren't used to her, Terrans all looked the same so to them her greenness and Nebula's blueness really caught attention. Even off planet people stared at her though, she was the last of her people after all.

Gamora was trying to channel someone like Quill, who would be warm and non threatening so she didn't put her hand on the knife strapped to her thigh because that might startle him. He was young, out in the open looking worried and Gamora wasn't without empathy.

"Are you alright? Did you just blink and end up here?" She asked as she moved a little closer.

"Yeah," he nodded. He wasn't entirely sure what was happening here. Maybe he was dreaming. If this was all a dream, there was nothing to be worried about, and he could just go with the flow.

And really, a dream made sense. because there was a green skinned woman talking to him. It had to be a dream.

"Where am I, exactly?" he asked her. He took a step closer. He wasn't quite in arm's reach, but he was close enough they could speak in normal tones. "I'm not really sure how I got here."

"Not a question I can really answer," she said apologetically. "It's hard to say, it looks like Earth but not a place anyone recognizes." This wasn't her strength but he had questions and she'd try as best as she could. "None of us are, we just ended up here."

He stepped closer and her hand came to rest on her leg next to where the knife was strapped, not reaching for it exactly but ready to grab it if she needed it. "The way it's been explained to me is that this is a 'pocket universe' and we've all been pulled from our own universes and ended up here, it's hard to understand I realize."

There was a pause and she shifted her weight, awkward as she lacked the ability to comfort him really. "I am Gamora," she added.

"Pocket universe," he repeated. He could work with that. It seemed as likely as anything else. And he was pretty sure he was dreaming this whole thing up anyway. If that was the sace, it could be anything, so why not a pocket universe?

"I'm Jughead," he told her when she gave her name. He tended to get mixed reactions to it. Some people acted like it was completely normal, others acted like it was the worst name they'd ever heard and questioned his parents actually bestowing such a name on an innocent baby. They hadn't. But it was his name, the only name he used.

"Thanks. For the information." It wasn't much, and she hadn't really told him anything useful, but he could tell she was trying, and that was what mattered.

At least he didn't appear overly emotional about it, he didn't deny it and insist she was wrong or panic. Maybe this place was like where he'd come from, the quiet here maybe wouldn't make him feel like he was being suffocated like it did to her and her sister.

His name didn't seem any stranger than half of all men here all named Peter, but Terrans were a strange bunch. Gamora would happily go with it and she nodded as she brought her hand up to wave in greeting rather than shaking his hand.

"Over there? Is a communication device," Gamora explained as she pointed it out. It was prehistoric but it did its job and Nebula's friend Tony was always working to upgrade anything with a battery. "And if you'd like to come with me I can show you where the houses are."

Jughead retrieved the communication device she pointed out. It looked like it would do the job. He didn't have the same perspective on technology she had.

"Yeah, okay. Lead the way," he said with a sweeping gesture of a hand. He may well be walking into a trap, he had no way of knowing. But he figured he wasn't going to get anywhere if he tried to go it alone because he had no idea, really, where he was. So he extended a bit of trust and hoped he didn't pay for it with his life or something.

If he was as he appeared he was no threat, not to Gamora and if she'd wanted to harm him she wouldn't have taken him elsewhere to do it. But that was the sort of thing that wouldn't sound that reassuring if she said it out loud, more ominous. Jughead was trusting her and lucky for him he was the trustworthy sort.

"Here is a clothing store, over there is where we make COFFEE," Gamora explained to him. "There is not much else. Others have been gathering books. The Mayor of this place is Mr Stark if you need to talk to him." It was only a minute to the houses, the town was small.

"How old are you? Can you look after yourself?" Gamora asked as she reached them. He appeared fine but what did Gamora know about Terrans?

Coffee. That was an import thing to know. Not that he had money. He had maybe $12 on him. And he was far too responsible to blow it all on coffee.

"I'm 18." Well, close enough. He'd be 18 in a few weeks. "I can take care of myself." That much was true. He'd been taking care of himself his whole life, practically. His parents sure as hell hadn't done a good job of it, and he'd taken matters into his own hands when he was just a kid. He'd been on his own since he was eleven or twelve.

"I'm used to it," he added with a sigh.

"Good," Gamora wasn't going to question that, if he said he was capable then she'd take his word for it. There weren't many young people there, a few and most had been taken under the wing of someone responsible, someone who had an air about them of being a parent. People that weren't Gamora.

"Me as well," she said, a little gentler this time. There were some eighteen year olds that were still like children, but at eighteen she'd been out fighting her own battles, working for Thanos.

They turned the corner and this place was a little brighter, lights in windows of the houses people had already taken. "This house here is my sister and me, but this one is empty," Gamora said as she pointed to one across from it.
