WHO: Sirius Black and Janet Van Dyne (avac)
WHAT: Partner Thread! Adventuring in the unknown
WHERE: Starting at the House of Dimensional Doors
WHEN: March 11
RATING: Lowish. Some sad thoughts.

Sirius — was not having a great go of it the last few weeks. He’d be the first to admit it. Things were weird here in this place and there was a lot to process. Most of it was stuff that Sirius had yet to see, but had been told about. He did not question the validity of Remus’ story in that it had happened. But he didn’t believe it was how things had really gone down, either. Still, it had slowed down his cheer exponentially and it was difficult getting back to right in a place like this: mostly empty and filled with more people he didn’t know than he was used to.

Usually when he was feeling down, he’d search out Remus and demand attention, but now— well, now didn’t seem like a good time for that. Not with all the — well. All that.

It was too heavy.

So for now, he sat inside of the House. The weird one. He was camped out in the middle of the main room, right past the entrance, his legs tucked up underneath him. He had his wand out and he was lazily flicking it at a door, which was opening and closing at his will to reveal a hundred possibilities in front of him.

It was that easy, opening up a new avenue of life and then closing it off again, possibly lost for forever.

Sirius felt very small in comparison, which was something he’d never really felt before. Not like this, anyway.

Eventually Sirius would want to see these shrink disks in action, but it was becoming steadily clear between them throwing things in baskets and trying on sunglasses (which were, in fact, tres chic) that maybe, just maybe, they didn't have time for extra play.

He'd have to ask later. Just like he was pretty sure they ought to be just dipping and weaving out of this place instead of worrying about paying with mysterious black cards. Or any money in general. "Keep the glasses," he said -- because even now they had a little time for fashion and they were really cute.

"But maybe -- ah. No. I don't know. Have they gotten closer?" He asked, glancing around them. They were nearly surrounded now, a circle about them. "I don't think how we move matters." And he wasn't quite sure he wanted to see how some defensive magic would make the crowds react either. "Hang on to your stuff tight," he decided, grabbing onto her elbow. "And maybe clench your stomach this time." Hey, at least he'd warned her this go around.

Jan was about to argue about stealing and how a superhero would never steal until she looked up and saw the group that was beginning to congregate around them. They weren't menacing, but there was still something about their stare that made her feel uncomfortable; it was like they were waiting for them to make the first move before they pounced. She thought Sirius had the right idea to get out before that could happen. She grabbed his arm, wondering how she could clench her stomach, but just glanced at him with a nod to show she was ready.

And there they went.

They arrived at their original starting point, Jan keeping her eyes closed as she tried to reorientate herself. At least she had been warned and was able to mentally prepare herself; physically, she wasn't so sure. At least she didn't feel like she was going to hurl as badly this time.

"Are there people here?" she asked, her eyes still closed. "And if not, what are the chances you can teleport us through the door?"

Stealing wasn't great, but Sirius liked the idea of it a hell of a lot better than -- than. Whatever this was, that was about to be happening. He got the impression that either of them being trapped inside a circle of thise people, or in an alleyway wasn't tremendously great.

Mostly because he didn't know what their deal was at all. It wasn't a good feeling, that curious and slight dread. Not a good feeling at all.

He considered the question even as he muttered a few words and all Jan's items, baskets and all shrunk down to very small things so that they might fit all into one instead of being many. It'd be easier to carry that way -- certainly easier to run. "No. Not through it. I can't -- it's like a different kind of magic, you know? It could mess up and go all kinds of pear shaped. But I can do it again so we're closer to it. Next to it? Can your stomach handle that?"

Jan dared to open one eye to peek through, noticing she didn't feel as dizzy as before. But she also saw the group of people who were already noticing them and making their way over. Except this time, they were running.

Both eyes popped open and she tugged on Sirius' shirt, pointing at them. "Yes! Yes, gogogogogogo!" She closed her eyes again, maybe squeezing him a little too tightly as she waited for him to do the thing one more time. While the speed and distance were efficient, she really didn't prefer the feeling like she was being pulled inside out by her bellybutton.

Still, it was better that they arrived closer to the door, close enough that they could run through and shut the door, safe on the other side. Jan panted, but otherwise, wasn't any worse for wear. She looked over at her new friend (because how could you not have a new one after that ordeal?) and grinned.

"You're pretty awesome, you know that?" She held her fist up for a bump from him. "I think we make a great team!"
