WHO: America and Kate
WHAT: They're checking out this door situation
WHERE: That house
WHEN: Saturday morning, 9
RATING: N/a

America was ready to get out of this place, even if it was just temporary, she'd heard others had already gone to investigate the house at the edge of the little village already and come back with little bits and things but no one seemed to have been able to go through and stay, finding a way out through it all. But maybe it would be different for her, it wasn't like everyone else could summon up star portals the way she could, and maybe that was the key.

She showed up outside the house that morning, and waited for Kate and anyone else who might be coming with them, but like she'd told Kate they weren't going to wait around if no one else wanted to try this with them. And as long as Kate was with her that was all that really mattered. Maybe if they found a way out they'd come back for the others.... well not maybe, they would obviously, but they didn't have to wait for everyone else to join them just to try and find a way out of this place.

"Hey!" She waved when she saw Kate approaching, "There she is," She smiled, when she'd first shown up she'd been worried that this place might be the worst thing ever, and sure it wasn't great, but with Kate here it couldn't be all bad. "You ready to see what we find?"

It might have been selfish, but Kate had her fingers crossed that no one else would be waiting at the weird house with her and America. For all the strangeness that was going on, she at least had two of her best friends with her (plus one best friend that didn't know her and was old?) and the last time they went through that strange door, they had come back with an espresso machine! Things were starting to look up and she was allowing herself to kinda, sorta accept their fate here. But when America put out the Chavez signal, she was there to answer. Maybe they would find something that could help them figure this place out or, better yet, an escape.

She had put on her usual jumpsuit, bow and arrows slung across her back. She grinned as she saw America waiting, picking up her pace a bit as she got closer. "Hey! Sorry, have you been waiting long?" She walked up with her hand in the air to give her a high five. "No one else?" She glanced around, not able to help the grin that spread across her face. "All right! The A-Team back together again!" She laughed, nodding her head. "Yeah, let's go! I'm really hoping we can find some coffee beans for the machine!" She shot her friend a look. "You know, as the worst case scenario kinda thing." She opened the door, bowing to let America through first.

"After you!"

"Don't worry, you're right on time." She promised Kate, raising her hand for the high five. America glanced around just double checking and shrugged, "Looks like it's just you and me," She'd thought maybe there'd be another but maybe it was too early in the day for him, if this didn't work though she'd be going through again so she could try this again with someone else later. But this first time - yeah this one was for her and Kate.

"Wait did you find a coffee machine? Or did you bring one with you?" She asked as she stepped through the door as Kate told her what she hoped she'd find on the other side, as for America - well coffee would be good, maybe a change of clothes, some pillows, a way home most importantly. But whatever it was she knew she and Kate could handle it together.

As she stepped through the door it became very apparent that they were not going to find coffee here, at least not immediately. "Well this is.... something." She said turning back to Kate to see what she thought, it was dimly lit here, like it was a rainy day, and quiet. It put America on edge immediately. "What do you think, should we look around? See what we can find?"

"We found one! We walked through and were in a little cafe in Paris and we, uh, borrowed their espresso machine." She followed after America, not aware of her surroundings until she bumped into the back of her. She looked at her friend and then around, the same feeling of being on edge running through her. She took her bow off her back and notched an arrow, keeping it pointed towards the ground; she wanted to be ready if something came leaping out at them.

"This definitely isn't Paris," she muttered a tinge of uncertainty in her voice. She hesitated before accepting America's challenge of exploration, wondering if this would be their only chance to get back. "Yeah, I guess we could see what else is around," she said, but she didn't feel too hopeful. She didn't see a lot of buildings and the ones she did, looked run down. At least the town they were in had a nicer decor look to them. This almost looked post-apocalyptic.

"I've got your back," she said, placing her hand on America's shoulder. Better to let the amazing, star stomping superhuman in front of her go first. "Can you star port now?"

"Borrowed, right." America just grinned as Kate explained how she'd gotten an espresso machine but considering their current situation she wasn't sure she could blame her, she knew how Hawkeye needed her coffee. But after walking through the door America was pretty sure they weren't going to be finding any beans for coffee here.

"Definitely not Paris," She agreed, but this was something she and Kate could handle, she was sure of that much, even as it looked a little worrisome. Kate had her back and well she had Kate. So they'd be fine. Looking around America wasn't sure they were going to find anything worthwhile here, whether that was coffee or anything they could use back in what was their temporary home - she wasn't going to call it home, she refused.

"I don't know, let me try." She frowned, kicking out into thin air to try and open a portal the way she normally did, and watched as it sprung into life, but it flickered, the way it did back in the town, making her think it wasn't going to hold and then suddenly it blinked out of existence. "Maldita sea!" She grumbled. "It's no good, they're still too unstable here, should we keep looking around?" She asked.

Kate stuck her tongue out but kept her eyes peeled as they walked further from the door. She glanced back at it, the door still open and wondered if it needed to be shut. What if something went inside? She and Clint were able to find the door easy enough and she didn't want to be held responsible for any weird creature coming into their new town. Home? She wasn't sure she was ready to call it that yet and she knew America definitely wasn't. Still, it seemed that she was unable to star port out of there and they'd have to keep trying different ways.

"Did you hear that?" Kate turned, her bow raised at a bush where she had heard some rustling. Her heart beat a bit faster as she squinted, trying to see through the shadows at what was lurking behind. Why was it so damn dark here? She glanced up at the sky, seeing clouds blocking the sun...at least she was assuming it was the sun. She couldn't really tell, but it was spherical and producing a teeny tiny bit of light. Perfect. Just perfect.

While her gaze was still trained on the sky, the rustling because a screech that made the hairs on Kate's neck stand on end. Out of the brush came dozens of monsters, screaming and wielding sharp pointy things that Kate definitely didn't want to get hit with.

"Oh no, not good, not good, NOT GOOD!" Kate let a few arrows fly, hitting their targets and sending them flying back in the ranks. But where one fell, two more charged towards them. "Um...run?" She glanced towards America, already taking a few steps backwards.

America wondered about the door too, closing it seemed like a bad idea, what if they couldn't get back when they went to reopen it? But if they left it open could something from here end up there? What if the door needed to be closed so her powers would work again? There were too many questions to consider and it made her head hurt thinking of it all. Instead she focused herself back on the place they were right now, they could debrief and go over any questions when they made it back in one piece.

Yeah, she definitely heard the rustling. This place was not one that left her feeling comfortable and at ease, it was so dark, and clearly abandoned, not a nice little street with a cafe for them to walk up to and steal a coffee maker, or even a run down town with homes to check out for supplies, this place was just empty and making weird creepy noises all around them.

"Dios mio," America knew this place was creepy but she hadn't expected literal monsters to jump out at them. But on the other hand this was something they were familiar with and watching as Kate felled a few of the monsters as they made toward them it was very obvious that they were outnumbered. And while America was all for a fight this was one she thought they probably didn't need to involve themselves in. There were no civilians to save, no buildings to keep upright, just the two of them and the door wide open to the place they'd just left - which was actually filled with civilians.

"Yeah, that's a great plan." She agreed, "We've gotta close that door before they get there." She didn't want to chance having to fight these things back in their peaceful little village. And Like that they were running, she knew Kate didn't need to be told twice, especially since it was her idea, and well if need be America could handle any that caught up to them.

Kate shot a few more down before she turned and followed after America, glancing behind her every so often to see how close they were gaining on them. "What the fudge are those things?" Kate gasped as she tried to keep up. "They look like those monster things from Lord of the Rings!" The irony wasn't lost on her as she shot another arrow, missing its intended target, but hitting the one behind her. She shrugged; good enough! But then she spotted another, this one mimicking the moves she made and she cursed under her breath.

"Shit...AMERICA!" Kate dove at her friend, tackling her to the ground as the arrow sailed past them. "They've got weapons too," she said, scrambling to get back up and pull her friend up with her. She knew that any lost ground was not good in a situation like this. "Alright, alright, alright, we got this, we got this, we got this." Apparently saying things in threes made Kate believe they could make it and she tried her best to run and get another burst of energy. But running was not her forte.

"This...SUCKS," she panted, feeling like they were close to their goal.

Now that Kate had said it, she was absolutely right, they were almost exactly like some of the monsters she'd seen in that movie, they weren't nearly as fun in real life as they had been on the big screen, of that much she was absolutely certain. "Maybe that's what they are? Did we end up in the Lord of the Rings?" It seemed just as likely as any other explanation.

What she hadn't expected was for Kate to suddenly launch herself at her and the pair of them went tumbling to the ground just before America heard the distinct sound of an arrow whizzing overhead. "Oh that's not cool at all," She grumbled as they both pushed themselves up again, Kate continuing toward the door while America turned back to the monsters chasing after them.

"That's it," She pushed up her sleeves and channeling the power she felt contained within her all the time she took a beat and then stomped as hard as she could, hoping that unlike her star portals this part of her powers was still working, and sending a shockwave that knocked back the first several lines of the monsters before turning back and sprinting to catch up with Kate.

"Here, let me," She swept Kate up off her feet and into her arms, "You keep them off our backs, I'll get us out." She told her giving up on the running all together and soaring over the ground closing the space that remained between them and the door so they could get out of this hellhole.

"I think I would have preferred an on-set experience. I would take Orlando Bloom over these guys ANY day!"

Kate loved when she went all kick-ass superhero. She hadn't necessarily seen it while she was desperately running for her life, but she had felt it. After so many battles fought together, she could sense America's power with her eyes closed.

Before she could glance back to check on her, she felt herself being scooped up and blushed, glancing down at America. "I wasn't complaining to get help!" But she did have a good point. Kate shifted herself slightly, using America's shoulder to steady her hand despite the jostling. Hey, every little bit helped.

She was able to get a few more, but she was also running out of arrows. "We gotta speed it up America! Those guys are right behind us and I only have three..." An arrow appeared in the forehead of one of the orcs. "Two more arrows." Kate snuck a look to see how close they were. "We're almost there, right?"

"Give me Viggo Mortensen any day, that guy has moves." The set life was absolutely where they should have ended up, not in this real life version.

They could argue about whether or not Kate's complaining warranted this or not, for now America was focused on the door and getting them out of this in one piece without letting any of these monsters through the door with them. And like this, Kate could help make sure that they didn't get too close.

"Nearly there, Princess." She promised when Kate warned that she was nearly out of arrows. The door was right there, and how they'd gotten so far in seemed almost impossible, like the door was moving further from them despite their attempts at getting nearer. But they made it, America flying through the open door and kicking it shut behind them before she was leaning back against it panting, still holding Kate in her arms.

"You really went to Paris last time?" She asked after several long moments had passed and she'd attempted to catch her breath wanting to make sure that the door wasn't going to burst open behind them and those monsters weren't going to come pouring out. She would have liked Paris, sure maybe it had sounded boring at the start, but compared to where they'd ended up going she'd take Paris any day.

Kate had let her last arrow fly, aiming for the leg of one of those ugly creatures, causing it to stumble and fall, taking a few more along with it. She was ready to punch any in the face if they got near enough when she felt a floosh of air as they passed through the doorway, leaning against the door. Kate braced herself for an impact that never came.

Despite America doing most of the physical work in their escape, Kate flopped out of America's arms and slid onto the floor, her arms cartwheeled out around her. "You can have Viggo," she said. "S'long as I get Orlando." She looked up at her friend and laughed, patting the floor next to her.

"Yeah, Paris," she said, her voice taking on a sort of dreamy quality. "It was warm and there was coffee." Kate closed her eyes. "Mmmm, coffeeee...." They really needed to find more things to be able to make coffee as frequently as they wanted but this trip seemed to be a bust. She didn't feel like taking another chance in going back in though, they'd have to wait another day.

"So what have we learned from this?" She opened her eyes, staring at the ceiling. She held her hang out as she ticked off the lessons. "Don't go in if it seems gloomy and post-apocalyptic. Lord of the Rings may have been a real world somewhere sans Viggo and Orlando. Kate needs to bring more arrows when we decide to go back through again. It doesn't seem like you can star port anywhere around here. We didn't find more coffee." She sighed, looking over at America. "I really miss my frozen peas."

She expected banging, for the weight of her and Kate to not be nearly enough to stop the onslaught, but once the door was closed it was like the place was gone entirely. So that was - well it was something. America slid down the door and sat beside Kate, breathing out slowly, "Look, I don't want Viggo - I just want him to show me how he does that stuff with the sword. But that'll work." She agreed, laughing too. Now that they were safe it was easy to tease again.

It was so unfair, America hadn't exactly wanted to go to Paris when she and Kate when through the door, but the idea of warm, and coffee and you know without the threat of being killed - that sounded kind of perfect right about now. "Why did you get to go to Paris and we got this?" She grumbled.

America nodded as Kate ticked through what they'd come away with from their experience that morning, "Maybe it's a matter of finding the right place to star port?" She suggested, hoping that it was just a matter of finding the right place instead of accepting that she was just out of luck.

"So next time, we see if we like the look of the weather before we go in. We bring more arrows." They weren't going to end up having to deal with something like this again, America was determined. They were going to learn from this and next time they were going to have a great time. "Maybe next time we'll find freezer world, and it'll be full of frozen peas?"

Kate couldn't help but laugh at the thought. "Can you imagine?" She spread her hands out in front of her. "A whole world that just has rows and rows and rows of freezers with frozen peas in them. At this rate, I feel like we'd get through the planet in a year or two!" She could only hope that wasn't true and that there were just as many nice worlds out there she and America would be able to experience. If only the universe were fair.

"I guess it can't hurt to keep going. That had to be the worst case scenario, right?" She didn't want to think of the possibilities of worst worlds out there.

"C'mon." She tried to sit up and it took her two attempts before she could even pull herself up to a sitting position. "Wow, I need to work out." She puffed out her cheeks, holding her hand out to America.

"Let's go get some coffee." She'd boil a huge pot for them at this point. They deserved a cup or two after all they'd been through.

"So many peas." She said laughing, imagining a world like that, full of nothing but freezers full of frozen peas. That would have been better than their Lord of the Rings adventure. More useful too. "Maybe we'll get luckier next time, find some frozen peas and some coffee - now that would be amazing." Maybe they could even take one of the freezers too so they could keep the peas frozen and use them later if they ever found another monster filled world.

America nodded, "I don't think I want to imagine a world that's worse than the one we just went to. Let's hope that's as bad as it gets." Things could always get worse though, America knew, but maybe they'd get lucky. They usually did.

Rolling her eyes she took Kate's hand and let her pull her up from the ground. "Yeah, you're really out of shape," She teased, "Not like you took down more of those guys than anyone else could."

Slinging an arm around Kate's shoulders America grinned, "Yes, I think we absolutely deserve a cup of coffee after all of that. Let's get out of here."

Despite their near-death experience, Kate couldn't help but grin as she and America walked towards their better destiny of coffee. The farther away from the doorway they got, the better she started to feel about things.

Except for one.

"Can you imagine what Billy and Teddy would have done if they were here?" She couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head. "I feel like we would have had to drag them away as they try and ask questions or even preserve one of them!" She laughed again, remembering how she really only knew Lord of the Rings because of those two.

"Is it bad that I wish they were here?" As hopeful as America remained of them finding a way out, Kate had a gut feeling that they were stuck here.

What was one more near-death experience in their line of duty? They've done this often enough that once it was over, when they were sure it was over - it was behind them, and they could laugh and enjoy the rest of their time together. Kate had always been good at that. And America loved that about her.

"Oh god, don't even say it." She said laughing with Kate when she brought up Billy and Teddy, things would have gone a lot differently if they'd been there, they certainly wouldn't be heading for coffee right now, they'd be dragging those two out by the backs of their shirts. "Let's not even think about how differently things would have gone if things were different."

She sighed softly when Kate continued, "I don't think it's terrible." She said after a moment, "I mean, it's not great though, don't get me wrong. But I get what you mean." America didn't want to drag any of their friends into this as much as she would have liked their company.

Kate laughed along with her, picturing the two of them having to push them out the door while those things were still on their tails. "I love those two, but the thought of staying in that area any longer..." She shuddered, shaking her head and holding her hands up. "No thanks!"

She looked over as America sighed, smiling when she realized that she understood where she was coming from. "I just miss them," she said, confiding in her friend. It was easy to get caught up in their adventures and the excitement of being a Young Avengers. But when it came down to it, it was just a group of friends, watching each other's back.

"At least I've got you," she said, the smiling returning to her face. "Don't go disappearing on me, ok?" The thought was enough to turn her stomach, but she didn't know how it worked here. So far everyone who had shown up here didn't seem to go missing, even with the weird Twilight Zone door.

"They don't know what's good for them." America agreed, it was best that it was just the two of them on this run - sure it had been close for a minute there, but they'd handled it. They were good at that.

America nodded, that she understood all too well - sure they'd all kind of gone their own ways after a while, they all had their own lives to deal with. But they were still friends, she could get that Kate missed them, she did too. "Maybe we'll see them again sometime." Hopefully not here, hopefully it'd be when they got out of this and back to their real lives, they could have a party or something, celebrate being back in the real world.

"You've always got me, Princess." America said it teasingly, but she meant it, no matter what no matter where, Kate was the one person she'd always be there for. "I'm not going anywhere." She promised, more serious this time when she spoke, she hadn't meant to end up here, but now that she was, now that she knew Kate was here, well she wasn't going to leave her behind.
