There was a part of her that Leia had to fight now, not unlike a storm within; the want to counter Obi-Wan with what she had witnessed. The truth being this Anakin had merely shown his true colours, with the right influence and power at his side. If this man had really ever wanted to prevent death, he’d become a master of it, no amount of ‘trickery’ could drive a man to do as Vader had done, could they? Responsible for the deaths of billions and not just on Alderaan but galaxy-wide, even if he was no greater than an attack dog Palpatine let off it’s leash to do his dirty work, the ruin he had caused was insurmountable.
That monster did not deserve his grief, nor to be so shaken to the core by the inability to ‘bring him back’. But maybe it was simply better he thought him dead.
So Leia didn’t say a word. She looked at Obi-Wan, a man who’d been her last hope, struggling to contain what she thought were tears, she drew a deep breath, her hand squeezing a little tighter.
"I believe that you did all you possibly could for him. As I understand it, the Dark Side presents something more powerful." She said softly, far more composed than she really felt inside, but her sympathy for him was enough to quieten anything else she wanted to say, and she meant it too. Luke and spoken of the Light and the Dark, but not enough for her to truly grasp it. "Emperor Palpatine manipulated an entire galaxy into believing he would restore peace and bring order. That he had their best interests at heart." Obi-Wan had not been alone in this, though the Empire’s true ambitions had rapidly revealed themselves.
"I think my father simply wanted to protect me- if I'd only asked after who she really was." When Luke had told her, she’d wanted to know no more about Vader, or what Ben had told him of Anakin Skywalker, perhaps that had tainted her desire to know anything at all of a heritage she wanted to escape - but at least when it came to Padme, Obi-Wan’s fondness for her warmed Leia to such an idea. "And- I know you can tell me more of her- of the good she did. In time." She was concerned now about pressing for too much.
